You can use the guard option for fighter to guard large ship .

This is pretty cool because after that , you just move big ship and everybody follow .

This is pretty coll however i find it simpler to just select all and move them as one but when you do this formation structure Breaks down! i can't stand this i want my fighters in front of my capital ships so they can take out the bombers that try and hit them.

Or if you know C&C well enough, you can use hotkeys to do it... These are the hotkeys from C&C & Emperor: Battle For Dune, created by Westwood Studios. Examples of these hotkeys are: (and some of these do work in EaW, but I haven't tried em all)

 

Hold Ctrl + Click = Force Attack

Hold Alt + Click = Force Move

Hold Ctrl + Alt + Click = Guard unit/structure/area (You may also be able to use "G" but I haven't tried that yet)

Hold Shift + R (or just "R") will Retreat

Holding J while Issuing orders Will keep units in formation

 

These become quite an improtant part in playing RTS games such as C&C and EaW. I've used them alot in the past especially in Skirmish and Multiplayer. Give em a try
