Ghostly_Substance Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 Can someone just host them over at angelfire.com or freewebs.com and tell what to backup and what to replace? Please? ;D -One Empire falls another riseshttp://myanimelist.net/signature/EuroSubstance.png http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/os/type/2/ghostlysubstance.png
Akula_pff Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 Well I figured some rules in editing this thing that should help people out a lot.1. DON'T USE WORDPAD OR NOTEPAD, there is a character set issue.2. USE A HEX EDITOR- The VS2005 one is the one that fixed my hit and miss issues I was having earlier. 3. Keep the file length the same, although I have to do a few more tests to make sure thats true. Model's are stored in the Model.MEG ALO format, which maybe the same as a .X file but I haven't looked closely.Textures are in texture.MEG tga format.Maps are in Maps.meg, I haven't investigated the format yet.Depends shows mostly standard .DLL libraries with a couple of external references to some sound libraries.

katostk Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 well tell us how u did it man i don't know nothing about mods and that stuff
Bryant_pff Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 (edited) I use a Hex editor, located http://www.chmaas.handshake.de/delphi/freeware/xvi32/xvi32.htm Also search for "Demo_Campaign" and that will take you to what you need to edit. and you must have the EXACT same amount of characters in the code, what i would do is deleted the random spaces, and instert longer ship names such as the Rebel_Pod_Walker_Company. Its a very Tedious process, but i plan on releasing diffrent versions on the Nexus for Easy downloading http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v329/MichiganSpeed/EAW_20060119_17321584copy.jpg Edited January 19, 2006 by Bryant_pff Empire At War: NexusYour One Site for All your EaW modding needs!http://eawnexus.gamingsource.net/bannersandbuttons/nexussig.gif

Zer_Teron Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 Z-95 and a V-Wing, maybe they did include those 50+ models in here ;D http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/3488/zersigef1.jpg
Akula_pff Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 So it appears that I'm going to have to modify the .exe to get those disabled buttons to work.
Adthrawn_pff Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 I updated my .meg file but the program won't run. It's not a runtime error, it won't start. What now? You should post a step by step process.
chr0n1x Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 (edited) I think I may have found a way to solve the problems with filesize and character limitations.Get one of the extractors, and extract config.meg into the Data dir, so you get resources, scripts, and xml folders.Leave config.meg where it is and edit the files in the folders, the game will take them over the .meg files. You can edit these with notepad.I did a simple edit to change the credit amount and it works. The filesize limit was in the .meg header, since it is an archive. I will continue to test. Oh yeah forgot to mention, the demo campaign file is in XML\CAMPAIGNS_SINGLEPLAYER.xml [EDIT] I can confirm it does work, I gave myself a victory destroyer and it was there waiting. What extractors are you referring to? My Death Star is bigger than your Death Star!"The XML is strong with this one!"http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/bg/type/0/teradyn.png

Teradyn_pff Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 Thought so... read my comment on that thread. My Death Star is bigger than your Death Star!"The XML is strong with this one!"http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/bg/type/0/teradyn.png
Telstarin Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 Check the sticky at the top of the page, Tera, that's the extractor I use.
chr0n1x Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 I use the Kaelic one and it works for me, drag n' drop. What comment are you referring to Teradyn? Edit: Here is a small mod to prove it works. No Intro Modhttp://chr0n1x.no-ip.info/eawnointro.rar http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y38/Chr0n1x/sig.gif
Teradyn_pff Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 I got the one listed to work by upgrading to .NET 2.0 My Death Star is bigger than your Death Star!"The XML is strong with this one!"http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/bg/type/0/teradyn.png
Dante_pff Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 yes, that will probably solve 90% of the issues with that extractor, and yes, you are right, the files are way more complex then notepad can handle for editing, and most people don't understand drag & drop command line programs, which is why i made the .Net 2.0 GUI version, its fast, its the latest tech (for me thats good to get practice on) and its friendly to use. as far as the directorys go, most games will use the files before archives (i.e. xml/*.xml before config.meg/xml/*.xml) so just open up the extractor, double click on a .meg, and tools->extract all, choose your EAW Demo/GameData folder, and click ok. Then mod away like mad as much as you want, and to un-install those mods, simply delete the folders you created (i.e. xml/scripts/etc...) Hope that helps a bit, notepad was good to peak, hex is good to discover, apps are great to edit with reliability. Founder & Lead RenEvo Software & Design
