Teradyn_pff Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 I was pretty sure that I wasn't the only one that saw that stuff in there. I played the Demo campaign mode with a starting cash of 400000 instead of the 20000, also, My fleet constisted of 4 Mon Cal Cruisers and I could build the Rebel Strike Frigates from the station on Hoth. I also could jump to other planets in the galaxy (I went to Bespin and built a space station there) but most of them had a default texture, so there was some things left out. When I first messed with the file I modified to do all this, the game crashed, so I made my modifications without changing the file size and got the above to work. I don't know if the file size was the real issue but I had to get some sleep so I didn't mess with this stuff too terribly much. Teradyn_pff Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 The trick to these files is the LUA mixed in with the XML. XML as you know is pure text, but LUA is not as straight forward. I was a bit curious as to whether or not enough information was in the game to unlock other planets or campaigns, but like I mentioned previously, not all of the planets are textured. I will say this though, I think Bespin does not have a ground battle portion due to the fact that I conquered it as soon as my fleet got into orbit, kind of like the Vergesso Asteroids. Akula_pff Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 While I personally haven't done any working modification yet I have looked through the file extensively. It would appear to me that all of the models for the game our there probably because they have been using these files with other demos they are doing. Looking through the campaign section it appears that there are several campaigns that have been run for press demos or focus tests. Based on those it looks like their could still be a couple of planets in the game that we haven't discovered yet that do have full maps. However its also possible that they didn't remove the campaigns but that they did remove the maps.

Akula_pff Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 Yay I'm going to have to eat my words on that one, the manifest for the map file only shows TM01(tutorial map 1??) TM03(Tutorial map3), and the two planets in the campaign. Now if we could find a way to assign a map to a planet TM01 would be a neat ground battle to fight with different units.

For example, I blew up Tatooine, got an AT-AT (not captured by Chewie), Star Destroyer, (a few for each side on the asteroid map), Mon Cal Cruiser, and some A-Wings, among other things.

There are some pitfalls in changing things in that file with notepad, my first guess was that the file had to stay the same size, so I went on that assumption and didn't have any crashes. Akula, is there any guidelines that you followed to be able to edit the file in notepad without crashing? As for unlocking everything, just set your tech to level 5 and your space station to level 5. This freed up some units for me, but there were still the ones that were locked for the Demo. If you find out where this lock is set, please post. The Saint Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 Even making simple changes, like Rebel, Hoth, Rebel_Star_Base_2 Rebel, Hoth, Rebel_X-Wing_Squadron Rebel, Hoth, Rebel_X-Wing_Squadron Rebel, Hoth, Y-Wing_Squadron Rebel, Hoth, Y-Wing_Squadron Rebel, Hoth, Han_Solo_Team to Rebel, Hoth, Rebel_Star_Base_5 Rebel, Hoth, Rebel_X-Wing_Squadron Rebel, Hoth, Rebel_X-Wing_Squadron Rebel, Hoth, Y-Wing_Squadron Rebel, Hoth, Y-Wing_Squadron Rebel, Hoth, Han_Solo_Team Caused the game to crash. Changing the tech level even adding another squadron or adding another zero to the starting balance causes the game to crash on start up. Am I missing something?

It might be some sort of hash check or something along those lines. Best thing I can say to do is guess and check, some stuff works some some doesn't. AOErat you seem to have figured it out, any other advise??
Teradyn_pff Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 What I have done is to change the values with a hex editor and made sure to replace characters and not insert or delete anything. The level 5 space station may be Rebel_Star_Base_4 and not Rebel_Star_Base_5. This is possible because of the way arrays are counted in most programming languages, i.e. you start counting from 0, not 1. As soon as you find something on that Akula, please post it here. I browsed through the exe some last night, but I won't be able to look for anything till I get home and that wont be for another 4-5hrs.
