ANDTORR Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 (edited) Just ran through the Single Player space battle again and came to a realization... How are 2 NEBULON-B friggates supposed to even CONTEMPLATE taking on a VSD, let alone with an Acclamator there? now I cant speak for the acclamator because I know next to nothing about them, but just the VSD should EAT 2 Nebulon-B friggates... I mean each nebulon B is actualy 300 Meters long and has 12 turbolasers and 12 lasers, while VSD is 900m long and has 40 double turbolasers and 80 cuncussion missile launchers. Does that sound like a fair fight? espicialy since the VSD also has the Acclamator for support, and a space station. I mean I realise that alot of changes have to be made but realy... thats a bit of a big difference right there. But meh I'm just SW diehard and this is probably rather pointless and petty but... ya. anyway very nice game other than that *edit* yes I made sure I even did it without the help of Y-wings or anything, and one of the friggates was all but dead, but still... ya anyway stupid and pointless, but my lil bit lol Edited January 21, 2006 by ANDTORR w00t!
Khalarius Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 He is right.... The victory star destroyer is....weak... I know that it class is old but... Well except that, the game is great (althou a retard monkey can pass the misions of the demo in 15 minutes ). CAn wait for the hole thing!! (P.S. good work ex-westwood guys, loved C&C) ;D I am that which grips the heart in fright, hearkens night, and slices the light.
suggs Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Also Han solo in the millenium falcon is to strong, i solod the space mission with it if you dont believe me i can fraps it and send to you. It was on hard setting too. Also i thought the VD was a bit weak 2 nebulon Bs shouldnt be able to take it that easy. Other then that this game is great i love the nebulas i did a suprise attack with Y- wings. I loved the ground battles too this game will be alot of fun. i thoguht the demo would hold me over till the release it just made my anticipation worse.
JohnKimble Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Okay I played through the demo a few times, overall it was great..some things were kind of lacking maybe, but these are some points Im hoping will be considered for the final game. Things I didn't like/Hope they change - - There was the issue of the imperials doing nothing on the galactic map, but since that seems to be for the purpose of the demo I'll desregard it.- I was hoping it would be more like Rebellion in terms of scale and time. Ships were built almost instant, and they travelled very fast from planet to planet. This means that there's very little time for recovery and less feeling that your running a huge empire. Also, it would mean you would be constantly fighting and wouldn't have time to prepare or anything like that (would also get really tiresome too).- The bigger ships move really fast when your fighting, if they were slowed down it would make them look more like huge bulky warships rather than fast little vehicles.- I love the power of the Falcon, but maybe it's strength could be lowered just a little (It's cool that It can take on loads of fighters and win, but right now it can take on star destroyers and pose a huge threat to it, which doesn't seem realistic in context with the movies). That's all I can think of for things I would be happy if they changed. Things I like/hope they keep - - The graphics are effin' superb *thumbs up*- I love the cinematic cam- Im looking forward to the variety of units (even though the demo had very little). I think the demo gave the wrong impression of the full game really. Im assuming it's not going to be as mission based in the full game, because the thing that attracted me to the game was it's similarity with Rebellion. But overall, the game looks like it's gonna be very, very good. Good job guys
JohnKimble Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Oh, something I forgot, sorry for the double post. I think it would add more tactical, strategic and realistic elements to the game if damage was consistent. For example, I sent over a force and damaged all the imperial ships over the asteroid feild, including the space station. But when I sent over a second force about 20 seconds later the ships had all miraculously repaired themselves. I don't know if this was a bug or intended, but I don't really see the advantage in it. The shipyards could act as a repair yard and heal small ships over a day and big ships over 3 or 4. And lastly, sorry if this is starting to border on whining, but It's annoying that you can't retreat from a space battle. I had 2 corvettes left that were going to wasted anyway, and I couldn't do anything about it because of the lack of retreat. Also, If you were to invade a planet guarded by two X-wings, with 3 SD's and a hundered TIE fighter you would expect the enemy to retreat, recognizing the odds.
WhatsHisFace Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 The only think i found really annoying was the fact that the torpedo and concussion missals could go trough a ships shields. I would understand if they did more damage then a turbo laser does but going through the shield. other then that this was a great but short demo. my favorate this is the space battle i did every thing form making a balanced feet to making one kind of ship / fighter only. http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e43/WhatsHisFace146/1bc5ff57.jpg Begun, the clone war has -yoda (ep.2)
noian Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 It was all great except for the following:Lasers going through ships?Selecting targets bugs(sometimes doesn't show up)Ground levels are Sllllloooooowwww. Naja Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 Like I've said, my main gripes are simply camera-oriented, and some other small things. Camera oriented due to the still-buggy Cinematic View, and due to a very inconvenient way of rotating the camera while in normal view (which I, honestly, haven't figured out how to do yet). And the main small thing I'd like addressed is a Hold Fire and Hold Ground option for units. Otherwise, they'll just be stupid and chase something that you might not want them to chase, and they'll get blown up on your watch. My Rebel artillery kept wanting to go after turbolaser towers and got mowed down every time until I *carefully* placed every unit where it should be - having to babysit your units for fear of them getting confused and destroyed = not too fun.

Hey Naja, ill admit a hold ground stance and hold fire would be handy As far as the buggy camera goes, Delphi said that the cinematic flybys (using spacebar) jumping all over the place can be controlled by HOLDING the spacebar down, it will stay with the current target and be all "filmy". The other view (using the "c" button) can be buggy especially if you select multiple targets, its being slowed down by the slowest unit.Rotating the camera as u probably know is done by holding "Ctrl" and using your middle mouse button. If this isn't to your liking you can change this in options to ALTERNITIVE mouse. In which case its hold your right mouse button and holding "Ctrl". Hope this helps /bow "maximum firepower"
Necro Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 i really love eaw! although i will miss being able to diplomatically win over a planet! a few small problems or things i don't like but overall a great game which i now have on preorder!
Faceh Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 well I have left it until now to voice my opinions of the game. I have throughly enjoyed the experience playing the demo and various mods that people have come up with for it and I agree with a lot of the feedback on here about the hero's yes they are quite powerfull imo but that will and can be countered with tactics and if not I'm sure a patch with sort it out. This game has the potential to be a very succsessful franchise of RTS games, yes there will be glitches what game released doesn't and things will not please everyone and I can understand that but having played games for over 10 years now there is not many games that peek my interest but this game certainly has and I will be buying it for the sp as well as the multiplayer aspect which has the most potential I have seen from an RTS in ages. very good job petroglyph I commend you on what to me will be the best RTS of the year.
gold kiros Posted January 28, 2006 Posted January 28, 2006 (edited) i playes the demo and i enjoyed it! first of all i wont critize realism it is a freaking game after all. i will admit its not funny to see han take down the entire imp forces by himself. the nebulon albeit with its boost shields ability was killed by other frigates too easily. the nebulon was made for defense so include better armor for it. the sd are too fast in my opinion. they are suppose to be hulking carriers or slow moving assault ships. As i see it rebels= more relying on survivalbility i.e. thicker armor than regular sd for nebulons. (3 or 2 times the armor) things like suppressing laser fire cannons (blocks incoming shots) Empire= power. remeber the emperor went nuts and has the mantra of BIGGER IS BETTER. maybe include what the difference between a turbolaser and a laser cannon is. you know make people awarre what each turret does. specs and stuff i have no ideas for wat about empire all i got to know were the rebels, very sorry!!! rebel ships are known for recharging shields. where are the shield bars on the xwings and y-wings?the engine boost for rebellion crovetts need to be faster. they are called blockade runners for a reason. twice as fast maybe three.we should be able to point which type of harpoints attack which ships. i mean something like right click and pick "point all turbolasers to...." or something like that or click one harpoint and and have that rectacle on it "like the ion cannon feature" and click on one ship. The AT-AT died from continuous fire from 10 squads of rebel soldiers! its crazy how laser fire can bring a heavy trasnsport that fast. i can understand plex soldiers but normal ones? should be 1\8 of normal laser fire on an AT-AT or less 1\12 for land i would have liked cover implemented like those walls where the huge lasers are would serve as cover. like right click and pick take cover or mov here thing. besides this all went well and the masters of RTS you are tells me it will be a hit! You've made some games greatist hits and don't let us down! You may be working with a lucasarts title but don't forget the things that make a juicy RTS sandwhich with the side of hot sauce that will make it unique. i think i speak for everyone when i say we will enjoy a clone wars expansion. og course dont rush and just think one of your previous titles with star wars. the best of both worlds of other RTS games and starwars will make the best RTSLONG LIVE STAR WARS! AS WELL AS THE PETROGLYPH DEVOLOPERS I WISH GOOD LUCK AND GOOD THINGS TO COME! GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO AYAYAYAYAYAYAYA! YIPEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Edited January 28, 2006 by gold kiros
