Guest Scathane Posted June 19, 2003 Posted June 19, 2003 Now hush! The only way we're going to get anything done is to remain optimistic and to sustain communication lines with companies like Lucasarts. On the one hand I know that some people and Lucasarts in general aren't the most talkative people we know... On the other however, I would like to bet that a lot of you folks haven't got the right tone of voice when it comes to addressing a multimillion dollar company. So if you didn't get anything back, the either try again or shut your trap but, please, don't start whining about how you feel sorry for yourself! With regard to our questions: Hugh Sider has answered that it's going to take him some digging and research to answer them because it's been a while. Obviously, this either means he's doing so or he's preparing a law suit...
Lord_La_forge Posted June 19, 2003 Posted June 19, 2003 Could you post me the questions you sended to the developers?
Guest Scathane Posted June 19, 2003 Posted June 19, 2003 Sure. This is what I sent: 1. Could you tell us a little bit about yourself. Who are you? How did you come into the gaming industry? What was your role in Star Wars Rebellion? 2. We all know that, sadly, Coolhand ceased to exist after the release of Star Wars Rebellion. However, was Coolhand planning on creating other Star Wars games? 3. It must have been a privilege as well as a frustration to have worked on something like Star Wars. Did Lucasarts Entertainment Company (LEC) have a lot of guidelines with regard to making a Star Wars game? Could you give us an example? 4. As you know, we use an editing tool called RebED with which we can change settings in the game. Are you familiar with the editing tool? If so, what do you think about it? 5. With RebED, we are able to give the Death Star to the Rebels. However, the command over the Death Star in tactical battles is taken over by the Empire. How come and what can we do about that? 6. As Star Wars Rebellion fanatics, we are working on a mod called Star Wars Rebellion: Reloaded. As such we have a lot of technical issues. The guys working on the mod sent in these questions: * What is the structure of the savegame?* As it is, the game uses a maximum of 256 colors. Would it be possible to insert pictures with a, say, 16-bit color depth* How does one insert new cinematics into the game?* Can the events be changed? Could cinematics instead of stills be use for events?* What is it that defines major characters? (i.e., Major characters can’t die. How come?* Is it possible to replace characters and units with new ones?* What makes Coruscant the Imperial HQ? What makes Yavin special (i.e., you can’t add fighter squadrons to Yavin with the editor, whereas you can to Coruscant)? 7. As fans of the Star Wars Rebellion, we’ve played it over and over and over and over. You can trust us when we say that we are quite at ease with the game. Still, a lot of us have the eerie feeling that the game was somehow left unfinished. That is, we have the feeling that the game incorporates a lot of stuff that wasn’t developed through and through (the Millennium Falcon model, additional text for Leia, and the Han Solo Bounty Hunter incident almost never seems to happen). What can you tell us about that? 8. We’ve tried contacting LEC quite often in the past few years for question or support on Star Wars Rebellion. However, they never answer. Have you any idea why LEC is so persistant in disconnecting itself from Star Wars Rebellion? 9. We would like to thank you very, very much for your time and effort. One last but not the least question: which games do you personally work on now? Tell us: where can we admire your artwork?
Jahled Posted June 19, 2003 Posted June 19, 2003 Well done Scathane! Nicely posed questions that didn't do two things; make out desperation or seem to beg for information! You phrased the questions intelligently and respectfully. Cool. I have not heared anything from 'the game developers' that dude, Jason at Lucasarts, said he would forward my correspondence to. Any ideas, any suggestions on how I should re-post my original request should I/we try to approach Lucasarts at a more senior level, stating our non-commercial aims as with our sadness they have not supported the game? Suggestions gentlemen. Scathane and myself both seem to have brakes along these lines with reasonable progress, it's to early to shrug Lucasarts indifferance and turn away mumbling about Lucasarts. We are just a small corner in a very large Star Wars gaming community, it may take time for them to notice us! Bare in mind one thing, the game is now about six years old. That, in corporate terms/thinking is very differant to the game being three or four years old. When JediGreg, or whoever it was, approached Lucasarts, that was THEN; let us be be optomistic about approaching them NOW, and see what response we get. I think I make my point reasonably clearly.... BTW: Scathane, dude, I missed your post asking for questions to put forward, my apologies! Damn! http://www.jahled.co.uk/smallmonkeywars.gif
Trejiuvanat Posted June 23, 2003 Posted June 23, 2003 Great questions scath. I hope we get answer for them... http://www.swrebellion.com/~jahled/Trej/banner.gif

Guest Scathane Posted July 4, 2003 Posted July 4, 2003 That must be the target of our next infiltrator mission... Should I prepare my special operations troops? That reminds me of the Southern Comfort... Have you seen that movie, SOCL?
wormie Posted July 4, 2003 Posted July 4, 2003 That must be the target of our next infiltrator mission... Should I prepare my special operations troops? I don't think that they will be enough to infiltrate the Archives, we need something stealthy, more lethal than them. Trejiuvanat Posted July 4, 2003 Posted July 4, 2003 Shame on you SOCL, your little Spinosaurus has scared our little psychopathic cat...But that dino could help us convince Hugh Sider of helping us with the code.... BWAHAHAHAHAHA http://www.swrebellion.com/~jahled/Trej/banner.gif
Jahled Posted July 4, 2003 Posted July 4, 2003 Trej, what the hell does all that gibberish stand for in your signature? No references to Doctor Sardeen's site please.... http://www.jahled.co.uk/smallmonkeywars.gif
the_mask Posted July 4, 2003 Posted July 4, 2003 Scath and Jahled, this looks really promising Although I have to tell you Scathane, that you misspelled one of the questions, it was about how we could add new chars and units, but otherwise it's perfect http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif

the_mask Posted July 5, 2003 Posted July 5, 2003 the MASK lets the force surge through him...Hmm, ... Trej's signature reads like: Warmaster of the Yuuzhan Vong, Jedi knight of the void and ... ohoo, well something needs to be updated then, but it's good to have several friends in high places http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif

I've dispatched the corect question to Sider...
Jahled Posted July 5, 2003 Posted July 5, 2003 Cool. Well Scathane's efforts further inspired me to continue seeing where I get with Lucas Arts. I composed this and sent it everywhere I could on the Lucas Arts site: I have been playing Star Wars Supremacy/Rebellion since it's release. It has remained on my hard-drive as a multitude of other gaming titles have come and gone. Thanks to a brilliantly conceived editing-tool, RedEd, I have been able to tweek and alter my Star Wars galaxy, inporting characters from the wider Star Wars mythos, even import new ship models; the game has been rejuvinated! It steadfastly remains my favourite PC game and my favourite Star Wars title. Why? Because it's the only title that enables my imagination to fully imerse itself in the Star Wars galaxy; command fleets of Star Destroyers, send Leia, Luke, and Han on missions, etc, I love it! Whilst I can perceive that to someone who is simply into gaming, and not the desire to bathe in the Star Wars universe, the game could be a less than thrilling gaming experiance; especially when compared to other Lucas Arts titles such as the sublime Jedi Outcast or excellent Galactic Battlegrounds, I am a member of a gaming community devoted to your original product. Without any commercial motives, our community has worked wonders with your title, enabling people to access an 'expanded universe' of gaming possibilities with Star Wars Rebellion. However, there are a few issues that we can't address without the game's original source code. (Addressing such issues as enabling people to play the game without the dreaded natural disarster, amongst other things!) Looking at the game's files, we've unearthed loads of things that obviously didn't make it into the final product; with the source code we would be able to unlock the final elements of the game's magic, for good or worse. It seems pointless just to let the game simply rust away, when so many of us have a very real continued interest in it! So I would respectfully ask for access to the source code on behalf of my fellow http://www.swrebellion.net members, to enable us to unleash further life and possiblities on your completely underated title, and in doing so, further strengthen our continued faith and loyalty to Lucas Arts. Please accept this request with earnest good-will; we are motivated purely by an old-fashioned love of the game! Jahledhttp://www.swrebellion.net http://www.jahled.co.uk/smallmonkeywars.gif
Jahled Posted July 6, 2003 Posted July 6, 2003 I just got my automated reply this morning, Scathe! Blast. There must be a better route to direct our correspondance to at Lucas Arts, any ideas dude? http://www.jahled.co.uk/smallmonkeywars.gif
Trejiuvanat Posted July 6, 2003 Posted July 6, 2003 Couldn't you contact that guy again? The one that answered your question and ask him for a way to contact someof the people higher o the hierarchy?? http://www.swrebellion.com/~jahled/Trej/banner.gif
SOCL Posted July 7, 2003 Posted July 7, 2003 There must be a better route to direct our correspondance to at Lucas Arts, any ideas dude?Okay, we dress Scath up as a mailman, who will then go to deliver mail to Skywalker Ranch and will proceed to bust into Lucas' office...followed by his trusty two thousand five supporters from SWR. Sorry, that's was imature. Couldn't you contact that guy again? The one that answered your question and ask him for a way to contact someof the people higher o the hierarchy??He does have a point. Trejiuvanat Posted July 7, 2003 Posted July 7, 2003 SOCL's suddestion makes sense though, we send Scath to the Lucasarts HW with a special package: Zoot! The rest of the rioting mob, the 2000+ members wait outside in case Zoot just can't persuade them to help us! http://www.swrebellion.com/~jahled/Trej/banner.gif
Guest Scathane Posted July 7, 2003 Posted July 7, 2003 Now, of course you all must understand that I'd probably do business with GL a heck of lot sooner if I left all 1999 of you at home...
