Well I was looking through the stuff at EAW's official site and suddenly realized...

Yavin IV is misrepresented (Sullust I'm not sure about)

Normally this wouldn't bother me that much but now that I'm thinking about it, NO ONE EVER REPRESENTS YAVIN IV CORRECTLY EVER!

Yavin IV is a Jungle... a Tropical Jungle, not a Temperate Planet with Evergreens, just watch ANH and you'll agree, jungle not Temperate forests.

Why can't they ever get this right?

I'm worried about it because in Battlefront 1 and 2 Yavin IV was represented as an Evergreen forest. LEC probably gave the people at Petroglyph the same instructions, hence forest world.

but its not a forest per say its a Jungle World the film ANH even says and shows so. a Jungle is a dense unpentirably forst that is uncontrolled and forest is a semi-controlled dense area of land.

Yep, Yavin is a jungle world. We know it. :) The original layout had dense trees and foliage, but it was not fun. How did you expect units to move and battles to take place in a jungle? We had to make exceptions. Sure you could mod in more trees, easy. I do agree, we could use more unique tree types though. 8)

Not asking for dense trees per se, but the right kind of tree. The video shows what look like evergreen trees, which makes in look like endor (showing screens of both planets I don't think I would be ablt to tell the difference). Evergreens aren't for jungles, you need canopy trees.

So a tree more like this:

it could be like, having areas that are thick with trees (but still navagatable) and areas where theres less dence trees and clearings. its not like all trees are the same big. every planet has a landscape tnat can be stratageticly used to your advantage. having units hiding underneath the canapy would be cool. im not saying the trees are reall close together. just having the branches so fat that you have difacalty seeing from above. and having it become transparent when your units are underneath (like battle realms)

Personally I'd say they seem more at home in a swamp then a rainforest but that's just me.

Nah swampy trees usually have less leaves and lower to the ground. Jungle trees are up more to form some what of a lush canopy similar to the one in the screenshot:

Not saying it isn't a swamp planet, because that is what it looks like to me, but the trees are jungle trees.

If anything the trees on Yavin in the game look like the swamp trees.

When fighting in forests during 'Rome: Total War', it could be very frustrating, because you were forced to zoom in close to even know where the units were.

An easier compromise, I would have thought, which could have been utilised on here, could have simply been to make vegetation transparent (or at least show a computerised wireframe model) when units are present. :)

The problems are not the trees but how to fight in a jungle with tanks and AT-ATs... AT-STs maybe. But even those would have problems when "off the track".

This does only mean that the Devs could not use more type of trees to make the map better but in a more genral term. The problem is not the tpye of trees but their numbers in the map. More trees -> less free space -> nowhere to go for your units...

Well, they used Guatemala for the filming of the yavin scenes. And having been to Guatemal, I can tell you that there is both "jungle" and open areas. I'm sure the same would be true for yavin. Any planetiod will have various terrain and likely various foliage at different latitudes due to how the atosphere moves around a spinning sphere.

Very Very true, but I'm sure I speak for most of us when we say we prefer to see what is seen in the movies.

do we have any botinists around? (shoot, that's not spelled right)

a tree is a tree I'm so sure why we are disscussing the difference between swamp trees, forerst trees, and jungle trees. We only see a few brief shots of yavin in IV

Yea, but from what we saw it was clearly tropical jungle. And as we know, Lucas keeps it simple"

Tatooine-all desert

Hoth: All Ice

Coruscant:All City

Endor: All Temperate Rain forest (Red wood forest)

Dagobah: All Swamp

Yavin: Jungle

It wasn't untill the prequels that we started to see some diversity in planets.
