KOTOR III in the Works, Believes IGN

Posted By Mark on January 10, 2006

IGN has begun its own predictions for the coming year, and there's no surprise to see a mention of KOTOR III within the list. As we here at TFN also predicted, a third title in the RPG series is most likely, and according to the IGN crew its release date could be set between late 2006 and early 2007 for the next gen systems.

The game should feature more seamless interaction between NPCs and the lead character, as well as better, more economic interactions between party members. We (IGN) predict the combat system will go entirely realtime, as opposed to partially realtime (the way it was in KOTOR 1 and 2), and RPG fans will be able to enjoy more distinct shades of gray recognized by characters instead of the black and white distinctions made in the first two iterations of the series.

What has come as a surprise, however, is the hint at Mercenaries II. IGN has come to learn that a sequel between LucasArts and now long time partners Pandemic is well in the works and should see a 2006 release.

Neither the above have been officially confirmed from LucasArts themselves. Hopefully, they will be soon. Thanks to JediJones420 for the alert.

Edit: looked at IGN found this:

LucasArts' recent silence by no means equals inactivity. On the contrary, Knights of the Old Republic 3, which we believe is in development with Obsidian Development

1) Lucasarts silence? They really aren't doing a good job marketing EAW.

2) Not obsidian, LEC come on.....hope this is only a prediction. I really want to see Bioware do the third one.

Bioware/Pandemic (Didn't they team up? I heard something like that...) would be the best choice for the developer's spot, but Obsidian's not bad. I've heard a lot of stories about how they were rushed to complete the game too quickly. I hear they even had to leave out most of Malachor V's events.

KOTOR III On Xbox 360?

Posted By Dustin on January 11, 2006

Thanks to a tip-off in our video games forums we have uncovered information that indicates that Knights of the Old Republic III will be coming out on the Xbox 360. Word is that a UK gaming magazine printed a list of forthcoming Xbox 360 titles, including KOTOR III, which is reputed to be coming out in the fourth quarter of 2006.

Well the Xbox 360 is an obvious, I wish they would bring it out for PS3 and PC at the same time, but that is an likely (there is rumors that GTA 4 will come out on PS3 and 360 at the same time tho).

I think forth quarter 2006 is a bit soon tho. They are probably going for a christmas release and they would probably rush it again. If it is 4th quarter, I would expect an annoucement soon.

Also some are saying this is the first screenshot, I think it is just from KOTOR 2 tho:

That's because almost all of the old good LEC people have left or have been removed - the new ones still need to get experience - why do you think the PR of EAW had so many hickups lately ?

Dont forget about the Revolution, it's controller would be even better for KotOR than the traditional PC mouse.

This puts me in a hard choice position. As a fan of Nintendo's Mario's Metroid's and the others, I'll be buying the Revolution as soon as it ships here in Finland. But I've thought of buying one of the other consoles after a major price drop, too. So now I'm puzzled: Should I go with the PS3 and it's MGS 4, or should I go with XO and it's KotOR 3, which my computer will most likely not be able to run? It's a hard choice.

Haha yea, everyone is saying the controller seems like it has been specifically made for a star wars game.

I don't think it will be KOTOR tho, there will probably be a game just for revolution.

Right now I am definitely going to get revolution. I am waiting to see what games go out for each system first to see if I should get PS3 or 360. KOTOR and GTA are my two favorite game series, if both go to 360 I will need to get one of them.

I'll believe it when I see it. Frankly after KOTOR II I'm in not particular rush to see III. Especially if it might be rushed out the door intime for the holiday season. Granted we dont exactly know how long its been in development(it could be going on right now..we dont know.)

This is exiting news indeed! ;D Hopefully, we will finally learn the fate of our "buddy" ;) Revan. The amazing thing is the vast replay value of these games! I can't help uncovering every little detail of every distinct storyline possibility in the series. So compelling!!      ;D

I am going to be very very angry if Kotor 3 is not developed for the PC.  Most of the rumors I have seen say PS3 and XBOX 360, but no mention of PC.  I haven't played the first two (about to get them and play them through), but the whole series sounds awesome and I know I will love it.  Please let it be for pc!!!!!

Isn't that kind of like Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy though?  I haven't played it so I don't know.  Would be cool though.  I hope Kotor 3 is in the sith war as well.  Wonder if they'll ever get up to the clone wars and then having to survive the jedi purge or joining the new Empire as a force-sensitive agent (a mara jade like helper).

Doubt there will be a clone wars or new republic one any time soon. The whole reason they did 4000 years in the past was that there was very vague history and they could play around with it and not have many restrictions. During and after the movies are all full of canon issues and restrictions. While you could have sandbox play, it wouldn't nearly be as fun as playing in the KOTOR time where you actually feel like you are having a role in Star wars history and any outcome could be the real outcome.

The war with Exar Kun happened shortly prior to the events of KOTOR 1, so it's unlikely they will go back in time. As long as they tell us the fate of Revan, I will be satisfied.

The New Republic is weak and flawed, far less of an influence than the Old. Besides, this is the era of the Sith. The best era outside any of the movies is KOTOR.

Amen. All I want is to know what happens to Revan.

Unlike the first to iterations, I'm going straight to PC on this one. The other two I got on Xbox, then PC when I wanted to play mods, make mods, and play some of the game-fixing mods and use patches. Particularly on KotOR II, the Xbox games were buggy. Not so much on KotOR I.

Following the events of the Jedi Exile and Revan in the worlds of the true Sith empire would be fascinating indeed.

What's this thing about KotOR 3 coming for PS3 also? If it does, that will solve who takes the place as my secondary next gen console.

It bring upon us more of famine, death and war,
