vasuba_pff Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 So we can't bombard planets even without a shield generator thats stupid. Actually Delphis laughing at the comment we cant bombard planets would at least seem to indicate we can infact bombard planets
Shalashaska Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 The 'heh' points out the incorrect statement he used: 'You can't be bombarded from space', this is half true and half untrue according to actual materials: In one case, you have some bombers that have survived in space (in case they are considered units and not generated dummies by ISDs). then you can launch a bombing run of bombers In another one, you're short on bombers, well it's the opposite of above. In both, you cannot do turbolaser bombardment because you're in a game it's not possible. As a matter of fact, this is fairly off-topic. But when only Cain's first post was, I thought of that: well at least it gives you the edge when it comes to artillary duel because you're protected... and like it's 'sometime outside, sometime inside' I guess it's random, so you have to actually FIND the Power Generator before being able to destroy it, but now it seems in place so no question about it. Also who said Shield was only Rebel???? Coruscant has a Three-layered spheric shield, remember? (see when the rebel scum took over coruscant). On a global gameplay scale, you would have to bring A LOT MORE units to capture a well-shielded and well-unit-provided stronghold than a simple camp. So they are a good investment. This would be an interesting topic for... MILITARY ACADEMY ^^
Cobra848 Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 So we can't bombard planets even without a shield generator thats stupid. The shield generator in EaW are made for the ground war for protection from long range weapons and protection from bombers The shields do not give protection from Orbit bombardment since it is not in the game. I assume all this was done for an interesting gameplay. shadowsfm Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 i guess that keeps space dust from putting holes in ships in light speed no edit button? never mind, founded
Cain Posted December 29, 2005 Author Posted December 29, 2005 Thanks Delphi for clearing this thing up. 1. You can't be bombarded from space. Delphi - Heh Well someone on the LEC side said that you cant use your ships to do even a poor bombardament against the planet you are orbiting ... so I assumed it was a corect info - but with so many things changeing ... It seems I was not informed that you can actually initiate a planet bombardament. Maybe we will also get a cool cinematic out of it like in KOTOR. Delphi - True, base shields were only designed to block energy based weapons. I wonder if EAW has both SW types of shields in it. Delphi - Not anymore... 85% of the maps were redesigned. Some POWER generators were left outside shield, but are in very secure strategic locations. 85% of the maps redesigned Wow this explains why all the people inside Petroglyph said something like "Chris is working extra hard" to the "Were is Chris ?" question - in the last two months. Thank you Delphi for this extra work effort . Delphi - See answer #3. In multiplayer tactical skirmish maps, 95% of all maps have power gens protected underneath shield. Keep in mind shield gens also prevent bombing runs. I wonder if the shields can colapse if they take a long enough punishment. Or if they need a recharge time, etc. - The Trivium Organization - Community Manager -- Petroglyph Fan Forums - CoAdmin & Human Resources Manager -

Delphi-PG Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 i guess thats only in skirmish All maps were redesigned, but there are a few maps (single and multiplayer) that do not have power gens under shields. Delphi-PGGame Designer/Community Rephttp://www.petroglyphgames.com
Star Wars Man Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 i guess that's only in skirmish All maps were redesigned, but there are a few maps (single and multiplayer) that do not have power gens under shields. Which means in those maps, the defender (or the attacker, whoever has the shield) will have to work double-time getting defences near the power generator in order to protect it. http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg
shadowsfm Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 nah, bet its only the planets no one wants
Grand Admiral Thrawn 889 Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 it may actually be some of the most Important ones? Bothawui in the EU has vulnerable Power Generators. http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n292/Admiral_Antilles/Thrawncopy.jpghttp://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg I Support the Resistance!
Star Wars Man Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 it may actually be some of the most Important ones? Bothawui in the EU has vulnerable Power Generators.Ya got a valid point, Thrawn...some valuable planets may also have generators not underneath the "bubble" of protection. That means you must bring in some extra troops and stuff to protect the generator from attack. http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg
