Gen.Vader Posted December 25, 2005 Posted December 25, 2005 this is trivial, its not going to impact the game, who cares? I've have you now - Lord Vader
Grand Admiral Thrawn 889 Posted December 25, 2005 Posted December 25, 2005 can this be moved to the bar please ans this isn't about the game it is about Red Squadron. http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n292/Admiral_Antilles/Thrawncopy.jpghttp://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg I Support the Resistance!
Junker Posted December 25, 2005 Posted December 25, 2005 There is the Red Squadron in the Game. Look on this picture from the German Games Convention: Red Squadron www.sw-eaw.de http://www.sw-eaw.de/jpg/banner6.jpg
Avaris Posted December 25, 2005 Posted December 25, 2005 Um, the title of this seems misleading. Red Squad is in the game, so it really shouldnt be a bar discussion I think. But the names of the snuffed fighters is far less important than the fact that the squadron sizes make no sense at all. As far as I know, almost all fighter squads in real life and in fiction have even number of fighters. This allows for "pairs" aka "wingmen". Two fighters working in tandem is more effective from several tactical standpoints. And most importantly, SW used 12 or 20, or 24 in every instance that I am aware of.
JanGaarni Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 Well, they arn't really squadrons (and certaintly not squads sorry, couldn't resist ). They are more like Flight Groups rather than squadrons. I only hope that star destroyers are able to deploy its full wing of 72 fighters in one go (aswell as for other crafts of course). If not, I will be looking at ways of correcting this thru a small mod (prolly will need help with that ). http://www.lfnetwork.com/images/lfnlinker.gifStar Wars: Empire at War.Net Moderator&SWGalaxies Moderator Co-Leader of The Affiliates! -A-- What we do in life, echoes in eternity!- May the pants be with you!
Avaris Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 well yes. But it appears that a ISD will have only 26 fighters. 20 ties and 6 tie bombers. (4x5 + 2x3).
noian Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 Its more of a trivia and Red Squadron has had differant people throuout the books. In fact, at one time there were twored squadrons.(as in two famous ones)After all, almost every battle they've had red, gray, gold markings.(correct me if I'm wrong) http://www.lucasforums.com/images/avatars/tiedefender.jpgMay the force be with you, always. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/susangillan/EDF-Avatar-X-Wing.jpg http://www.userbars.com/galerie/images/files/3/4/ffuser.jpghttp://www.pixelpwnage.com/sigs/grouptag.jpg.Check for Updates!...Imperial Assault II Mod for Empire at War!!.....Empire at War Nexus, Modding for a Galaxy Far Far Away!!!.......Use the Spell Check Feature People!!!!.........International Battlefront Clan!!!!!.....
Avaris Posted December 26, 2005 Posted December 26, 2005 Jan, you may be right. I had always understood a wing to be 72, which is made of 6 squadrons of 12, each squadron having 2-3 tactical "squads"... each tactical squad having 2-3 sets of wingmen. At any rate, 5 and 3 are never used, regardless of what you may call group.

Megajames2 Posted December 27, 2005 Posted December 27, 2005 if anyone noticted it is back on the unit list
Phantom_pff Posted December 27, 2005 Posted December 27, 2005 Just a note: in some screen shots and vidios there are 4 TIE Bombers in a "Group". But there are also 3 in other pictures... so now im confused???
deriko Posted December 27, 2005 Posted December 27, 2005 Probably what happened is some tie bombers got destroyed earlier, so there were only three or four left.
Grand Admiral Thrawn 889 Posted December 27, 2005 Posted December 27, 2005 yeah but in the NJO a Squad was 3 flights of 4? but in the pre NJO Rogue Squadron books its 4 flights of 3? why's it changed? http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n292/Admiral_Antilles/Thrawncopy.jpghttp://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg I Support the Resistance!
Stellar_Magic Posted December 27, 2005 Posted December 27, 2005 I think you typed that backwards... Anyway, in the NJO books the New Republic Fighter squadrons remain in three flights of four fighters each (Each composed of two wingpairs aka flight sections). However, in a frontal attack against Vong forces their tactical formations have been changed to four shield-trios (Each composed of three fighters). This formation is only used when engaging the vong in head to head combat and was only developed as a way to give fighter craft overlapping shield coverage against plasma fire. In a standard dogfight the tactic is abandoned in favor of more conventional starfighter doctrine. Grand Admiral Thrawn 889 Posted December 28, 2005 Posted December 28, 2005 ok fair enough but i didn't type it backwards because in the NJO they have 4 in a Flight so that the first two shields overlap and when they go down the rear two's fresh shield's are put in place. http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n292/Admiral_Antilles/Thrawncopy.jpghttp://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg I Support the Resistance!
plokoon9619 Posted December 28, 2005 Author Posted December 28, 2005 Im saying red sqaudron should be 12 fighters.
Darth Tyrant Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 There are alot of heroes missing, starting with Thrawn.
Gen.Vader Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 um, with only 16 or so slots, lets deaal with the main ones in that timeline, not EU I've have you now - Lord Vader
plokoon9619 Posted December 29, 2005 Author Posted December 29, 2005 Garm Bel Iblis is EU and hes around at the time plus is a rebellion founder. So don't say EU isn't a part of EAW.
JanGaarni Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 But unlike Thrawn, Garm Bel Iblis is vital part in order to tell the story on how the Rebellion was formed shortly before ANH. http://www.lfnetwork.com/images/lfnlinker.gifStar Wars: Empire at War.Net Moderator&SWGalaxies Moderator Co-Leader of The Affiliates! -A-- What we do in life, echoes in eternity!- May the pants be with you!
Foshjedi2004 Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 The Corellian Treaty....Mon Mothma may have been the Diplomatic Figurehead but it was Bel-Iblis with the actual power and tactical prowess. http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa197/knivesdamaster/tags/sith_omguserbar_member.jpg
Grand Admiral Thrawn 889 Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 yeah it may have been but Mon Mothma and Bail Organa that took the Political hit from the Emperor. Bel Iblis went independant when Alderaan Was Destroyed. http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n292/Admiral_Antilles/Thrawncopy.jpghttp://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg I Support the Resistance!
Foshjedi2004 Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 Bel Iblis was "assasinated". He went off Radar for 8 years!! http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa197/knivesdamaster/tags/sith_omguserbar_member.jpg
Garbageben Posted December 29, 2005 Posted December 29, 2005 ^^^ That's true. I forget what book set it's in (I'll probably read it again soon). Everyone though Bel Iblis was dead because there was an assassination attempt that killed his family. So he went underground and made a private war with the Empire in the time that he was thought dead. He doesn't pop back out until the Thrawn Trilogy. http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/sh/type/0/garbageben.png
