Popcorn2008 Posted December 18, 2005 Posted December 18, 2005 With every new bit of information we get the more I get excited about this game. I cant wait!!!!! The base construction seems intereasting. I cant wait to see how that all fits into play. Looking great petro! http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg> Petroglyph Forums Moderator> LucasForums Moderator
Teradyn_pff Posted December 18, 2005 Posted December 18, 2005 As for the base building... I think that the way they are doing it is the best all round. The example that Delphi gave was a pretty good one if you think about all the things you have to do to control up to 40+ planets. Guest JediIgor Posted December 19, 2005 Posted December 19, 2005 Yes, that modding example was very amazing. People who have never used XML can be wooed by anything .
Cain Posted December 19, 2005 Posted December 19, 2005 There are 43+ planets There are no way enough for us ... no way ... to me they look more like 6 planetary systems and not a Galaxy. Another 20 optional will make 60 planets and this is at least acceptable for a galaxy. This gameplay issue of 40 planets is not very realistic. You guys tink in maps. We think in planets no matter how many maps you have.... You will see the negative feedback we will get after the game release. This days games are huge ! EAW should increase their planets number .... or at least supply tools for us to do it fast. I'm pretty sad with this 43 planets - The Trivium Organization - Community Manager -- Petroglyph Fan Forums - CoAdmin & Human Resources Manager -
Teradyn_pff Posted December 19, 2005 Posted December 19, 2005 All of the XML in the world doesn't help if it isn't tied to/used by something. My Death Star is bigger than your Death Star!"The XML is strong with this one!"http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/bg/type/0/teradyn.png
Guest JediIgor Posted December 19, 2005 Posted December 19, 2005 All of the XML in the world doesn't help if it isn't tied to/used by something. You missed the point. We were shown 2 tags and people were going crazy. So what, you use a type of XML every time you post here. Replace [ quote ] with < quote > and there you have it.

The two lines that he posted didn't really tell us anything. What grouping might that be under, what mode is it referring to, etc. My Death Star is bigger than your Death Star!"The XML is strong with this one!"http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/bg/type/0/teradyn.png
SWR Staff - Executive EvilleJedi Posted December 19, 2005 SWR Staff - Executive Posted December 19, 2005 yay another game that may have modding be horribly crippled by the publishers 'good intentions(IE content control and $$$)' modding will be entirely dependant on what level of lua stubs are put in the game, this could be the same thing that happened in homeworld2, huge team support for a week and then here's hoping
Delphi-PG Posted December 19, 2005 Author Posted December 19, 2005 So what, you use a type of XML every time you post here. Replace [ quote ] with < quote > and there you have it. And with that said, that is how easy it is to mod the data contained within the XML files. Delphi-PGGame Designer/Community Rephttp://www.petroglyphgames.com

Avaris Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 Phantom, you wouldn't at all need tools for that. Notepad works just fine. But try building a new scripted map for a new planet with new building and native creatures with special abilities in notepad XML will allow you to edit unit sizes, strengths, speeds, and pretty much any function that is "data" driven. ie. is determined by a value/number. Though XML is very dynamic and can do a lot. but many of the more complicated things it can do are not as simple as "changing a value".
Delphi-PG Posted December 20, 2005 Author Posted December 20, 2005 so why exactly would we need tools to do that? You need to be able to extract the data from source files. The XMLS just don't float around free and fun. Delphi-PGGame Designer/Community Rephttp://www.petroglyphgames.com
Avaris Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 Oh that too. XMLS files are expensive and boring. Forgot to point that out.

EJM Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 He's right, how can anyone be dissapointed with +43 planets?!, it is enought for me EaW is coming!

Teradyn_pff Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 Yeah, no kidding. I can handle a few less than that, since we didn't have ground maps to worry about, but 10 units for defense? No point in having a ground battle almost. My Death Star is bigger than your Death Star!"The XML is strong with this one!"http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/bg/type/0/teradyn.png

No point in having a ground battle almost. Honestly i think they shouldnt refer to them as Units. its giving people the wrong idea. They Should refer to them as Divisions or something else because as has been shown. When you Buy a Stormtrooper for instance you get multiple of them not just 1. Your getting Much of the ground stuff in groups not jut 1 at a time. its not like you only get 10 stormtroopers to defend. you get 10 x Number in the divisions. You get i believe it was 3 ATST per Division bought. Unit is too generic of a term for the way gameplay is setup as it does misrepresent the way things are.
Teradyn_pff Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 Well, we are asking this as one of our 5 questions this week, so hopefully we will know for sure on friday. Popcorn2008 Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 43 planets....have you ever heard of a game with even that many areas in a RTS? along with all the other ambitous ideas, this seems like a hefty amount! what is there to be disappointed in? Apparently no one here remembers Star Wars Rebellion: 200 Planets anyone?But... each planet didnt have two seperate playable maps. And it wasnt a RTS per say. It was way easier to program Rebellion planets because they didnt have any real distinct battle maps. If you fought in space it was always the same, and there were no playable ground battles. 43 is a big number for what EaW has to give. http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg> Petroglyph Forums Moderator> LucasForums Moderator
Hadoken13 Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 plus EaW is a game where a battle will be visible and is the point it was not like that in rebelllion
Zer_Teron Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 With every new bit of information we get the more I get excited about this game. I cant wait!!!!! Yeah well, with every new bit of information we get the more disappointed i am and the more im looking forward to Legacy of War instead of Standard EaW http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/3488/zersigef1.jpg
HarkDawg Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 crosses fingers that this game willl be moddable. Delphi straight up man i am getting very disappointed at the new news of this game. I was a huge fan of Westwoods C&C series. The ability to produce nearly unlimted amounts of units and send them at your opponents was a great aspect of your past series. However EAW seems to becoming very limited in many ways. There are now unit caps and "limited build on planets". I am looking forward to this game alot dont get me wrong ;there are alot of aspects of this game that i am looking forward to like hero units and upgrades, the graphics etc... Delphi C&C was great you guys need to add the things that ive mentioned in EAW. Thats what made C&C so great... think about man. im 19 now and i was a Huge fan of Westwood RTS when it came out and I was disappointed to see the company get bought out by EA. ***** Delphi random but were you part of the C&C Renegade project? I loved that game along with RA2 and RA tib sun etc.. INCORPORATE a bit more C&C http://home.comcast.net/~danhanway/i7vpotatoes2.gif new sig btw; you deleted the good 1
Popcorn2008 Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Ok let me make this crystal clear: Delphi never said the game wouldnt be moddable. He only said it may take them a while to release modding tools. If his team made c&c, red alert, red alert 2, tiberian sun, and generals moddable I think they can handle EaW. To make an un-moddable RTS would be a stupid strategy for anybody now-a-days. http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg> Petroglyph Forums Moderator> LucasForums Moderator
