Having played KOTOR numerous times, (Dark Side mostly  ) Taris has become a planet I have become most intrigued with, especially since it's now confirmed in EAW. After Malak's total bombardment of the planet with his fleet, could something or someone have possibly survived on the planet's surface?

Here is a quote from an article on Wikipedia:

It is unknown what happened to Taris after the Jedi Civil War, and whether it was ever repopulated. Darth Malak's bombardment had thoroughly levelled the Upper City area, and as Carth Onasi stated, everything over two stories high was reduced to rubble. It was speculated, though, that some of the Lower City and Undercity inhabitants managed to survive the bombardment.

Retrieved from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taris

Could the residents of the undercity have survived and rebuilt this sprawling world? Or does it remain a wasteland, a lifeless barren plain with the remnants of the dead city eroded away long ago? (Keep in mind, that Malak had the Star Forge at this time, and that a massive number of vessels could have bombarded the planet.)

Thoughts? Opinions?

P.S. Didn't the Dark Side ending make you want a game like EAW so you could finally conquer the galaxy with your immense fleet of warships? All hail Lord Revan!!!:twisted::twisted:

Next thing you know everyones gonna want the KOTOR cruisers.

I want KOTOR cruisers! :D (not really)

I think Terris was destroyed and then rebuilt by offworlders.

Well, there is the 3000 yr old Invincible-class still hanging around, so it's not that unbelievable. (Nothing more than patrol ships by now, but still...)

And it's been 4000 years. Someone must have recolonized it by now. =P

Agreed. Just look at some cities after WW2. Barely a wall still standing in the entire city, but they were completely rebuilt in several years. A few thousand years shouldn't be a problem.

True, but a lot like Coruscant, the city covered the entire land mass of the planet. It would probobly take them a good while to build up to that extent again, if at all. And Malak's fleet was massive, although they only showed the Leviathan firing, many of the ships created by the Star Forge would be there, and if you've seen he Dark Side ending, you know that is A LOT of ships!

Or, perhaps the bombardment could have had some massive effect on the environment itself. Entire species of plants and animals could have been wiped out. Oxygen levels would decrease with most of the trees gone, and it would have been extremely hard to live there.

But then again, life is persistant. I mean, animals survived the mass extiction caused by a meteor here on Earth, maybe it would be possible for life to survive there too. If they did repopulate, I would like to think that the Undercity inhabitants that you saved (Light Side) would have something to do with that. Hopefully it killed all the rackgouls though  . We'll just have to wait and see...

Hard to live there? hardly

terraforming and interplanetary trade would have made rebuilding in 4000 years easy, would have made rebuilding in 40 years easy

and that bombardment was no were near as catastrophic as an asteroid impact. "Nothing taller than two stories is still standing" or something along those lines as Carth put it

IE something was still standing.

and the undercity would be the least fine of all places, explosive debris tends to go up, then down, hard.

Taris better provide good bonuses to the Empire, or it will get the Death Star treatment...

My thoughts:

Talus has survived since the bottom was slightly intact. Since the jedi and his/her pal cleared out the tunnels and killed most of those diseased virus animals so people hid there. After the invasion was gone and most of the Malak's soilders friendly fired and others looted they rebuilt. I never finished KOTOR but i'm guessing the Sith army got crushed and so they ordered more building materials and rebuilt like mad. Now its like Correlia or similair.

Never finished?! May I ask why not, just curious? That game has the best storyline you could possibly imagine! You're missing out man! What happens to the Sith and Jedi literally depends on you and the path you take. You have a profound effect on the galaxy either way. It didn't win over 60 Game of the Year Awards for nothing man! Trust me, you want to finish this game!

Havnt any of you besides Phantom played KOTOR II, according story of the Cannon Male Lightsider playthrough Taris is undergoing a massive reconstruction project centered on the massive Station(cant remember name) and centered in Force Fielded Zones that are gradually being restored to habitable. Apparently the entire planet was made uninhabitable and judging by the Force Fields, lost all its oxgen. If you played Lightsider you save it so im assuming that its completly habitable and maybe the Ithorians failed to keep it a tropical paradise that they tryed to, and it might have become a sprawling metropolis again.

erm ive played KOTOR 2 but Smikies is right thats Telos but out of Taris's population some must have survived even so in 2 millenia some settlers must have rebuilt the place.

I didn't get past the arena battles in the beginning of KOTOR 1. I guess I am more a strategy player at heart. But it may have to do with the fact that I work full time and was going to school when that came out. I should finish it because it is a waste of money if I don't.

Yes, I believe the undercity people started rebuilding Taris, and evetually after the succesful reviving of Telos they received massive additional support from the Republic. The Rackghouls must have survived too, 'cuz toxic and filthy-like animals and insects tend to survive disasters better than humans. I believe Taris will not be Coruscant-like at all in EaW, I think it was never rebuilt to that level.

yes the people that you can either save or leave to die probably ressurect the Planet but they wouldnt do it exactly as it was they would do it so that it ends up like Alderaan as they learnt to love the land as the Alderaanians do, but thats just what i think we'll just have to wait and see.

lol kotor I and II were both great. I got kotor II some days after it came out, and liked it and got kotor I just some days ago and finished it yesterday. they both have great stories, perhaps kotor II having a deeper one(though not complete bleH! lol but anyways)

and yes of course they must have rebuilt Taris. or at least they could have.

But it cost a huge amount of money to rebuild a planet, i doubt the Republic would spend that kinda money with all the problems happening too them. And why would Palpatine want to do it when he can spend the amount on 4-5 Star Destroyers?
