Hadoken13 Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 how do you all think this will work? in warlords things miss A LOT but hit ratios are decided by algorithms (you know what i tried to spell) will it work like that in EaW i seem to remember some one ayin something about missiles killing every one in a blast radius but i couldn't find it T_Toh well what do we know and what do we think??
El Mariachi Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 I think on CDV's Blitzkrieg, aiming was calculated in a similar trough a simple scipt where attacking unit's firepower and aiming skill was compared to the defender unit's armor values depending on which side he was turning (for example, front armor is stronger than side armor). It could work on EaW somehow. http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/8803/starwarswhatislove1rv.gifKeep on rollin', rollin', rollin', rollin'!
Teradyn_pff Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 Speculation on something like this is pointless in regard to the release of EAW. The release date is far to close for damage and physics calculations to be completely reworked at this time. However the current model is implemented is what we will be getting. I am thinking a more simplistic model will be applied given the concurent battling units that Petro is attempting to support. Hadoken13 Posted December 7, 2005 Author Posted December 7, 2005 i know that there is no point in a debate i really just wanted to see if any one notice (the people who played)
El Mariachi Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 Yep, things seemed pretty fine on the gamespot preview. Just hope they keep stuff that way with a few improvements. It will definitively be one hell of a game. For sure. No, really. http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/8803/starwarswhatislove1rv.gifKeep on rollin', rollin', rollin', rollin'!
Deadeye31_pff Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 i swear to you, if I see 100% accuracy like troops in 99% of other RTSs have, I'll not only not play EAW but I'll break the frigging disk in half and picket Petroglyph. I HATE  !!! games where everybody's got 100% accuracy.

When Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan are investigating a Sandcrawler that appears to have been attacked, Luke says,"It looks like sandpeople did this" "No, Luke, look at the scorches. Phantom_pff Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 any way, if land battles are like the space battles (accuracy wise) you don't really have to worry because , if you have not noticed, the space ships do miss about 45% of the shots.

I espicially noticed in the Corellian Corvette movie. As far as land battles go, it looks like the troops are acurate when both the attacker and the attacked are standing still. I havnt seen an instance of moving attacking, or I just cant remember. http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg> Petroglyph Forums Moderator> LucasForums Moderator
El Mariachi Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 No, Luke, look at the scorches. Only Imperial Stormtroopers are so precise If that was for real, Luke and his friends should be dead for a loooong time. http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/8803/starwarswhatislove1rv.gifKeep on rollin', rollin', rollin', rollin'!

I havnt seen an instance of moving attacking, or I just cant remember. That is something I am worried about. The ground troops seem to have to stop to fire. It makes their movement very clunky and unrealistic. They seem to be very stiff and look like sprites almost in battles. Anyone else notice this? It doesn't seem to be changing with the successive videos either. I feel that this is a problem. Mcas1937 Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 Not really. Infanty in real life can not aim well when moving so it is not a problem. They would just be wasting bullets. -Many that live deserve death. And some die that deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then be not too eager to deal out death in the name of justice, fearing for your own safety. Even the wise cannot see all ends. J.R.R. Teradyn_pff Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 Infantry in real life do not stand in 4x4 groups while fighting either. And it seemed like the infantry started firing way too close to each other as well. chewieusma Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 Wait, are we doing a reality check? Since when do infantry use laser blasters? No point in talking reality, let's look at the movies. On the DS in ANH the stormtroopers mostly fired when stationary and in a rather old British sytle, just standing still. Now in ESB the snowtroopers all stopped to fire on the Millenium Falcon. Not only did they stand still, but right out in the open too. On Endor the storm troopers select concealed positions around the bunker and fire off pot shots at Leia and Han instead of rushing it. All the other troopers are running around with no strict tactical sense. And they were routed by a bunch of furry midgets and a single scout walker. "A legion of my best troops," says Emperor Palpatine. Hm, not that great a group. Now real infantry, they move and shoot. Slow and smooth they travel through urban terrain and eliminate whatever threat they must. If current military operations were restricted to Lucas Infantry Tactics, they'd suck.
Teradyn_pff Posted December 8, 2005 Posted December 8, 2005 Your last paragraph describes what is missing in the movement in the game. My Death Star is bigger than your Death Star!"The XML is strong with this one!"http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/bg/type/0/teradyn.png
Phantom_pff Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 Some thing else i just noticed, if you watch the AT-ST movie the plex troop who is being shot at miss fires a few times and the shot goes strait into the ground, so maybe if a troop is under attack its accuracy is reduced.
boyscout12 Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 wow...you guys are serious i just can't wait to play the game. such details are lost on me.
AT-AP Posted December 11, 2005 Posted December 11, 2005 Wait, are we doing a reality check? Since when do infantry use laser blasters?IU-logic should to be consistent, even in video-games. You're skirting the issue like so many apologists by using the "it's all fiction anyway" response. Since it's all fiction, we shouldn't really have these kinds of boards, now should we? No point in talking reality, let's look at the movies.Oh, this should be good. On the DS in ANH the stormtroopers mostly fired when stationary and in a rather old British sytle, just standing still. They are ordered to let the rebels escape so they can be tracked. They're not using their best tactics. (A better look would be the storming of Tantive IV at the start, while the initial explosion makes the guards recoil.) Now in ESB the snowtroopers all stopped to fire on the Millenium Falcon. Not only did they stand still, but right out in the open too. Since they were setting up an E-Web to punch through the hull, there wasn't much more to do other than provide covering fire, and Han's repeating blaster cannon was an unexpected element. On Endor the storm troopers select concealed positions around the bunker and fire off pot shots at Leia and Han instead of rushing it. All the other troopers are running around with no strict tactical sense. They are mostly chasing off Ewoks. And the Rebels at the bunker are of an unknown quantity. I wouldn't rush anything if I didn't know what to expect. There were Rebels all around the bunker besides Han and Leia, you know. And they were routed by a bunch of furry midgets and a single scout walker. "A legion of my best troops," says Emperor Palpatine. Hm, not that great a group. The Ewoks did not route them, the Empire was winning up until Chewbacca highjacked an AT-ST and started causing disarray amongst some of the troops. We also have no reason to believe Palpatine was telling the truth. Why waste your best troops catching a small Rebel party? Even if they were the best, the troops at the rear bunker did NOT constitute an entire legion. Now real infantry, they move and shoot. Slow and smooth they travel through urban terrain and eliminate whatever threat they must. If current military operations were restricted to Lucas Infantry Tactics, they'd suck.Moving and shooting. Like in AOTC, ROTS, ANH (on the Tantive IV). http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a242/CptK/StarCruiser.jpg
