Hello everyone,

This is my first post but, I have been lurking around here for quite some time. I am very excited about EAW and am looking forward to its release.

I have some questions regarding the cinematic mode. I have to admit that this feature is one of the most intriguing to me. I know there are a few of you out there that have been able to grab some actual play time with the game at various events and I am hoping you might be able to answer my questions.

First, how playable is the game in cinematic mode? Is the mode more of a "sit back and watch" type thing or can I effectively control my forces while in that mode? My hope is that I will be able to remain in that mode as much as possible because to me it just looks really cool and extremely immersive.

Second, does anyone know if there will be a "record" function that will allow me to save battles and watch them again (in cinematic mode, of course). I do video editing at work and would love to be able to sort of make my own Star Wars movie by using cinematic "footage" from my games (I know, I am a total geek). I really, really hope something like this is implemented.

I haven't seen much disscussion about this feature so I am a bit worried that it isn't that important to many people but, to me it is very high on the list of reasons I am so interested in the game.

Well, i should probably get back to work.

Welcome to the forums Blackjack! I hope you enjoy your stay! Good first post by the way, keep it up!

The cinematic mode can be turned off and on at will during a space battle. It is also land battles as well, don't forget. You will not be able to control any units during this time, but you can switch out of it as soon as you see a problem arising. I hope that you can save a battle in real-time, and then watch it in the cinematic mode. That would be awesome!

Welcome. I'm alsmost absoulutly sure that you can not control your units during cinimatic mode. There is no way you could select your units while watching. The EaW people said it is something you might want to do after you know you're going to win, so that probably means you don't have much control over your units. You can switch back in a seconds notice though. As for the recording, I have no idea, but that could be cool.

Welcome to the forums. At present we have very little info on recording of these battles in cinematic mode, but you aren't the only one who has hopes of it being in. Comments were made in one video regarding showing their battles in cinematic mode to friends, so it's entirely possible. Whether this requires filming in cinematic mode to have it like that, or whether it is selectable (meaning you can choose how the replay is viewed) is uncertain. As is how the replay/film is stored is also uncertain.

Trust me, to some of us this is a very desirable part of the game. We just don't have enough info on it to discuss it in any detail.

We don't have to worry about that though! It is in! The videos say it. empireatwar.net look at multimedia and 47 min. video! They show the player go into and out of the cinematic mode multiple times.

i meant the recording not the cinematic thingy :P:P:P

Oops....

But you can save replays in newer games(at least BFME) If you can save it in real-time, why can't you save it in cinematic?(not counting all the technical stuff)

Well, ideally what I would like have is the ability to record the battles in such a way that everything is saved, not just what I "see" during the actual battle. I'd then like to be able to load this file into a sort of playback module in which I could then see the entire battle from the cinematic angles of my choosing.

Now, I certainly realize that this is asking alot and that in the grand scheme of have a fun game to play it wouldn't be that important. If this is not something i'll be able to do within the game it certianly won't cause me not to purcahse it. It's just that after seeing some of the cinematic footage in the various online videos and previews I have been thinking how cool it would be to be able to go back and watch the entire battle in cinematic mode, and even cooler, be able to actually build a little "mini movie" from there.

I personally think it would be immensly fun to share these kinds of things online with others. If this game is done right (and from what I have seen they are getting pretty close) then you just know there are going to be exciting moments, dramatic victories and heartbreaking defeats. Some of my favorite posts in game forums are those that describe such experiences from a players prospective. In my mind the next logical step might be to be able to download the actual battle and watch it myself.

See guys, this is why I normally just lurk  I talk way too much.

Also, apologies for any bad grammer or spelling errors, normally I type posts in Word first and then paste but, I am feeling extra lazy today.

from what i have seen in the videos thay have said that you can switch between tatical mode and movie mode so you can watch some or all of the battle and than if you need to cover a open flank (example) you can switch to tatical mode and issuse new orders.

Sounds reasonable, I wonder where Delphi is; Maybe he can confirm being able to save cinematic footage.

I know exactly what you mean, this is in fact what I would like to have as well. Something similar to C&C Generals recording, where you could play back the game from an angle different from that of which you played. It's a great way to analyze your enemy and see how they handled the game and all that jazz.
