Planets With A Deathwish

Well depending on what type of materials were present in the gas giant...

 

One possibility is it would be a small explosion as the core is destroyed and the gas around the core would be spread out in space with nothing to hold it in place... Perhaps even making a tiny nebula.

 

Another possibility is that a large section of the gasses could be volatile and could be made to explode... Which would create a bigger and more powerful explosion than that of a normal planet, but leave a lot less trace than a normal planet or the previous possibility.

 

However, i'm no scientist so i'm just taking guesses. But there's really no point in destroying a gas giant. The only thing they have of interest are floating mining stations which can rather simply be destroyed with a turbolaser barage or bomber run. They would be more vulnerable than normal bases since there is a very much limited amount of room for ground movement and one or two lucky hits from a turbolaser/bomb could send the base and everyone in it down into an awfully cramped implosion death.

I still do not see the Death Star as a viable resource expenditure when the general populace is not swayed by its existence/proximity. It was primarily designed as a fear weapon. Even the Empire knew that it could not destroy planets willy-nilly. The destruction of Alderaan was a very political message about the resolve to use the Death Star. The only other purposeful use to destroy a planet/moon was the swift annihilation of the Rebels, a cost well worth it to the Empire.

 

The Death Star in this game is a gimick, pure and simple.

 

We don't know that. We know that planets are capable of rebelling, and that popular support will play some sort of role. Didn't Delphi somewhat hint towards diplomacy being an option in the game? In any case, I'm sure that there will be a political benefit to the Death Star being constructed. Maybe several neutral planets will join the Empire simply out of fear.

 

The question that I got submitted about diplomacy in the chat was as follows (with the answer):

 

Question (Teradyn): "Are we able to use characters to perform diplomacy to affect a neutral or our own planet's faction standing to bring them into our side or more into our side?"

Petroglyph-Adam: "There are circumstances within the campaign where your actions can sway certain key planets to joining your side, so depending on how you do in certain missions, you can give yourself a huge advantage in combat situations. If you miss your opportunity to sway those planets, there are other ways to get them, but they require a lot more work."

 

My impression of this answer is that diplomacy for one, is not in the game, and as a result having the DS presence affect the popular opinion on a planet would not make sense. I also got the impression that the planet joining a side is a feature of the campaign only and is not something that you will see in skirmish or multiplayer at all.

 

Given this information, I reiterate my previous statement about the usefulness of the Death Star.

you are forgetting this is sciencefiction really a laser wouldn't blow any planet up just make a big hole them it would become unstable and it would break apart

This doesn't make any sense! Why would you as the Imperials, want to destroy the planet that lets you make Death Stars? Why don't you wany more?

 

When I play as the Imps(which won't be very often), I won't blow up anything because I am Rebel sympathetic and won't be able to stand blowing up one of my favorite Rebel planets!

after that it would be coruscant (if it fell) it would just be tainted.

He definately does not mean as a Rebel. You can't blow up planets with the Rebels, and "Corusant was taken over", refers to the Rebels taking over Corusant, then he would take the DS and blow it up instead of watching an Alliance Corusant.

To gr. ad. then why are you depleting your main secret weapon?

you could just let the rebels have the planet or have it so that you don't produce any. If your in a emergency, you can use it as a last resort.

I was also wondering why "Grand Admiral Thrawn"(even though this strategy doesn't really sound like what Thrawn would do)would want to make it that he couldn't build any more DS.

This thread is about planets that with the Imperials you would blow up. So stop posting about being the Rebels when they can't even blow up planets. Also, they're too nice to do that!

becasue they are abominations but also because if the planet fell it would fell a whole gang of enemy's on me that i couldn't hope to defeat.

in answer to noian i wouldn't deplete it for more than a day and i wouldn't use it except in a retreating action to make sure that i didn't leave any rebels behind to follow me.

Um, I just thought of something... if there is no diplomacy, is there no penalty for using the death star?
