Naja Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 AT-ATs can generate Stormtroopers and have them rapell from cables. The Empire still seemed to get its arse kicked in the most recent Gamespot showing of it, but I think it was mainly due to how the player was using his forces (moving his forces, rather than attack-moving or having a group of units focus fire on one enemy unit, etc).
Ghostly_Substance Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 I was wondering about that. It sounded like it was more of an example then a fact since its just the way the guy said it. Its just is it free to generate troopers? Well there has to be a catch to generating Stormtroopers right? But if they just die easily then well might as well be free or 1 credit each And abotu small things, seems like nobody likes living planets since in the poll I was the only one who voted that animals will make the planet feel alive. -One Empire falls another riseshttp://myanimelist.net/signature/EuroSubstance.png http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/os/type/2/ghostlysubstance.png
Phantom_pff Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 The AT-AT will probeble work like the ISDs ability to produce free TIEs, they will probebly be really weak, but quick to produce.
Star Wars Man Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 The AT-AT will probeble work like the ISDs ability to produce free TIEs, they will probebly be really weak, but quick to produce. Yeah, that sounds reasonable... http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg
Garbageben Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 Anyone else notice how Darth Vader was getting owned by the Rebel artillery? I also saw an ISD that appeared was hit by an ion bold and there was this blue wash over its hull. The graphics looked nice from my view. I hope that the demo is released within the next three weeks. http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/sh/type/0/garbageben.png

Ghostly_Substance Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 Yup but you gotta keep in mind that Vader only died because they were showing off the game quickly in the "time slot". That blue shield stuff was cool on the Imperial Star Destroy, Petro sure deserves massive respect and thanks yous for this -One Empire falls another riseshttp://myanimelist.net/signature/EuroSubstance.png http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/os/type/2/ghostlysubstance.png
deriko Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 Is it possible to view the video of it even theough I missed it live?
Ghostly_Substance Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 You should be able to by tomorrow since they're slow at updating videos since gamespot is a big site. Maybe www.empireatwar.net found a way but I donno since I dont go there much. Well as I said should be on gamespot by tomorrow. -One Empire falls another riseshttp://myanimelist.net/signature/EuroSubstance.png http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/os/type/2/ghostlysubstance.png
Guest JediIgor Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 The AT-AT will probeble work like the ISDs ability to produce free TIEs, they will probebly be really weak, but quick to produce. Questionable from a gamepoint persepective, and downright hard to understand from a Star Wars perspective.
Juggernaut1985 Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 Sounds like AT-ATs are going to suck. Another unit to "fix". I swear the game is looking more like a BF2 RTS than anyhting. - Galactic Map pauses while in Tactical(BF2 has this)- AT-ATs can make unlimited troops(BF2 does this)- Ships are fully repaired after each space combat(BF2 again)- ISDs can make unlimited TIE fighters(BF2 again)- Heros can come back(BF2 again) I'm sorry but the game really sounds like its going to just not even be like anyhting we imagined it could have been. Its going to be BF2 RTS.
Little.B Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 Click me for teh vid! ... sorry Juggernaut I cannot follow your thoughts.... http://www.pexsus.com/~littleb/eaw/banner_eaw.jpgFeel the ForceIRC (QuakeNet): #empireatwar
Ghostly_Substance Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 Well Imperials are the ones who try and outnumber their foes any way possible so it makes sense. Maybe your saying that where are they getting their recruits from? ANyways this looks kind of cool though. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y292/GhostlyPolovnik/EAWAT-ATTroopers.jpg -One Empire falls another riseshttp://myanimelist.net/signature/EuroSubstance.png http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/os/type/2/ghostlysubstance.png
Little.B Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 And where the hell did you get the info that AT-AT produce troops for free/unlimited? I watched the video three times now and I can't find any proof for this. Neither in the video itself nore the things (who was it?) tells the viewers/audience. http://www.pexsus.com/~littleb/eaw/banner_eaw.jpgFeel the ForceIRC (QuakeNet): #empireatwar
Ghostly_Substance Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 Little.B look around the time when you hear them talking about the AT-AT. The Lucasarts guy says "For instance the AT-AT can produce unlimited amount of Stormtroopers and such", This is when they bring down AT-ATs and AT-AA Also did I just see the Speeders set up a trap infront of the Rebel tank beside the control point? The Rebel tank moves and BOom its dead (Before the 2 scouts die). If this is true then this is sweet. Oh and the At-AT sways now then falls sideways which is nice -One Empire falls another riseshttp://myanimelist.net/signature/EuroSubstance.png http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/os/type/2/ghostlysubstance.png
Little.B Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 They say: "Its like the AT-AT can just deploy kind of an infinate number of stormtroopers and such". So I would not say thats this actually means that it produces them for free or can actually produce troops by itself. It just says that it can transport a very large amount of infantry. (imho) http://www.pexsus.com/~littleb/eaw/banner_eaw.jpgFeel the ForceIRC (QuakeNet): #empireatwar
Ghostly_Substance Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 Well its just the way he said it that I thought it was a feature. Hmm it actually does look like the scouts set up a trap for the Tank but did barely any damage. -One Empire falls another riseshttp://myanimelist.net/signature/EuroSubstance.png http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/os/type/2/ghostlysubstance.png
Phantom_pff Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 but still the ability to set up traps is cool, maybe it's more effective against infantry units.
Junker Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 AT-AT can carry two sqadron of infantry types. At the Games Convention in Germany I dropped Stormtroopers out of one AT-AT. In the demo was no animation for the cables. You simply click down on the button for the special abillity of the unit and the troopers will leave the AT-AT. Only two sqardrons of each 9 Soldiers. Not unlimited numbers. http://www.sw-eaw.de/jpg/banner6.jpg
Gen.Vader Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 hey one thing fills muy heart with joy....SLAVE 1!!!!! at 40:22 which is sweeter than anything, but i think lucasart is lying....you know how they said heroes are tough and are hard to kill? why did vader die in like the first 2 min of battle then? i fear they are switching out thier toughness and just turning the heroes into throwaway units (units that can be used over and over and always come back) was it just my vid, or did the stormies stop halfway while comin out of the ATAT? I've have you now - Lord Vader
Grey Jedi Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 Well i' finally got around to see the movie(my sincere thanks to Little.B for hosting it) and while it was cool i have several apreensions about the game. First it seems that i'm actually starting to agree with Beowulf about the rebels being overpowered. In every movie we've seen its either the rebels kicking imperial arse or the imps going to great trouble to win(AT-ST clip as an example). For a faction that mostly depends on stealth and hit and run tactics it was some nasty units, with units like that who need stealth. In the movie the imp artelliery(sp?) didn't even had time to fire. And i'm not going into the AT-AT part. Only Vader seemed to hold his own and actually kill something quickly. Space battles are going the same way it seems, I didn't saw any reb ship being destroyed while the imperials where going down left and right. I mean WTF I know that it might just be to show off the graphics, engine, whatever, but is it so hard to put a movie where the imps actually win without losing more than half their army! I'm starting to have doubts about the balance of the game. Now thats over with i took a few screenshots: In this one look at the two ships on the bottom. To me it looks like Venators, the angled hull on the side is clearly seen.http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/4479/main7br.th.png These next two shows a ship very similar with a corvette but with stranger attatchments around the engines:http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/4018/corvette3pc.th.jpg http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/2036/corvette24gx.th.jpg
Naja Posted December 3, 2005 Author Posted December 3, 2005 Like I've said, I think they're deliberately making the Imperials lose; for whatever reason. I mean, look at the way he was playing the game: he was clicking "move" into hostile fire. He wasn't using "attack move," when he was targetting specific units he was targetting them carelessly (like not keeping track of Vader when he's in a shitstorm of artillery fire ), and he didn't focus his units' fire on one enemy unit at a time(most basic RTS rule in the book). Conclusion? Good guys kicking ass is good advertising. Every new review tells the direct opposite: the Imperials are a near-unstoppable war machine. Calm yourselves.
Phantom_pff Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 i agree with Naja, most people who have seen star wars want the rebels to win, and want to see them win, so that's what you see in the movies. It all comes down to selling the game, if most people want to see the rebels wining every fight, then that's what they will see.
