Is any kind of diplomacy in the game?

or the only way of "capturing a planet is using military force...

 

I'm talking about neutral planets with population

in rebellion you could send the emperor or darth vader (among others) to "convert" that neutral planet to your side.

 

I definitely think you're going to have to ask Delphi.

Addressing many subjects:

 

OMEGA:

Yes you need diplomacy or else it would be too hard. No diplomacy=no chance of empire getting double agents. No diplomacy= no chance for rebels to get tech without taking over a planet(and losing most of their army) No diplomacy= No chance to get captured heros back(if possible)

 

On another hand, I hope the diplomacy isn't bad. In some games, the allied factions attacks you EVEN though you have better troops, more troops, didn't attack them, didn't cross the border, and paid them tribute. Also in some games, your allies hardly agree to help you unless you offer them a OUTRAGEOUS amount of money.

 

Yes I wish developers didn't need to keep secrets but the reasons they need to is:

It would spoil the fun

People might complain

Sorry guys, but there will be no free-form diplomacy in this game during the skirmish galactic map or the 1 vs 1 multiplayer galactic map. The campaign mode will have some planet's loyalty given to you as a reward for completing missions or other objectives, but that is still not the diplomacy that you are looking for, move along... move along.

erm no one has said its not in it, they even said that there are other things like diplomacy for example the Assisation of Hero's.

Question (Naja): "Youve said in an interview that planets can be 'rebel'. How does this work exactly? Do all planets have a population loyalty measure for each faction? If so, how will this work on netural planets?"

Petroglyph-Adam: "In campaign, during certain situations, planets can rebel and throw off their controllers, resutling in some challenging situations if you thought that planet was "locked down". On a galactic level, you don't have to worry about rebellion as much, but in the story campaign, you should be able to feel when a planet may throw off its shackles."

 

Question (Teradyn): "Are we able to use characters to perform diplomacy to affect a neutral or our own planet's faction standing to bring them into our side or more into our side?"

Petroglyph-Adam: "There are circumstances within the campaign where your actions can sway certain key planets to joining your side, so depending on how you do in certain missions, you can give yourself a huge advantage in combat situations. If you miss your opportunity to sway those planets, there are other ways to get them, but they require a lot more work."

I think there is diplomacy in the game. How else you are going to take control of a planet that is neutral.

Uh, invade it? :)

But for the Rebels, that just won't be an option, they'll need all their forces to combat the sheer numbers of the Empire. Not to mention, they are meant to be the "good guys"

 

If there isn't diplomacy then EAW is just continuing its journey down the path of becoming a shell of a good game made horrible purely so lucasarts can get some more money fast.

And the Rebels and Imperials don't negotiate, wtf would they talk about?

"You are tyrants and must fall!"

"You are terrorists and must be brought to justice"

c'mon, its between the Rebals or Imperails and a neutral planet

for example: Rebels to Wookies "Rise up against the Empire and we'll come and fight with you!"

Imperials to Bothans: "Join us, or die."

See what i'm getting at here :D

there are more ways to take over a civilisation than war: threat of war, sabotage, bloackades, strong arming, bribery, protection scams, the promise of liberation, military aid, economic aid

Since your faction can have a standing with the natives and governments of the planets, there must be a way it affects gameplay

If the Death Star was looming overhead and you knew what it can do, and the Empire came down and offered you the "Join us, or die." deal, your opinion of the Empire would have bearing on the choice to join them, or to die.

 

i really hope that i can actually offer some planet "Join me, or die." :D

Well, we already have that option, for what else do you think the Death Star was created for.lol :D

 

To destroy planets :P

and to spread fear and project the power of the Empire

We don't even know if it can affect a planet just by being there

hell, we don't even know if it can actually carry fighters, soldiers and vehicles

but it can be destroyed by a single, lucky fighter

I think the Death Star is a waste of time and resources that could be much better spent on more ships and troops.

But thats just me :)

I agree with you a 100%, atleast thats how im planing to play the game. If I have some resources to spare, I will build a Death Star to orbit Coruscant as a front in case of an invasion. That's the way I use to play SW Rebellion and it work like a charm.

When the EAW peoples were asked about diplomacy before, they said that your actions will affect neutral planets in to joining you. So I am willing to bet that building a death star would get you a couple neutral planets.

there hasnt been annouchment about NOT having Diplomacy they just haven't said there is yet. but they have said that they have other ways of affecting stances of the planets and that certain planets give you ways of assassination and deception.

I would assume that just as destroying the Death Star would be a Rebel condition for victory, building the damn thing would an Imperial one. It would probably give you control over a bunch of planets, too, once you completed the mission.

:idea: Read these answers carefully. There will be mission rewards during the single player campaign that will be in the form of a planet joining your side. If this is all you are asking about, then fine... but it is still not a diplomacy mission you can activate on any neutral planet.

 

The 1v1 MP campaign mode is what I am referring to when I say no diplomacy. Find me a quote where they talk about diplomacy and they don't mention the single player campaign.

I'm not going to touch the story campaign, missions in this type of RTS are usually an afterthought chucked in becuase the publisher thought there wasn't enough direction. and as a result are crap

Supreme commander of the Imperial forces, you can order Darth freakin Vader around on the battlefield and you have to do menial tasks that will ultimately just get in the way of your plans to conquer everything (happens in Rome: Total War to me when ever i play a Roman faction, damn Senate)

Leaving large strategic planning and overarching goals to current AI is the pinnacle of stupidity... blockade this port, sure its on the otherside of the known world and of NO strategic value to anybody but some worthless ally, but you still gotta do it, the Senate and People of Rome demand it :P

Now if the missions turn out to be more involved than RTWs (as in more than just a waste of time and resources) then sure, i MAY look at them... maybe...

regarding missions and grand strategy... its my way or the highway :twisted:

 

and who needs diplomacy in 1v1 MP? seriously? i'll be too busy taunting whoever i'm playing against with "rebel scum" and such :P

 

i'm talking about the SP campaign, with no story, (you know, the good part of the SP) its been mentioned in something or other, and interview maybe, i can't remember...

In that campaign (the free form one) i want to know, can i strong arm a planet into joining me with "join us, or die" :D

its a big thing for me :)

 

if not, then is MP all the way.

 

Hey, if you look at it, if petro screw the AI up (its possible, BFME is proof, even in the age of FEAR, it can happen) atleast we have the MP were we can actually play a campaign against a real person :D

I disagree, the imperials did(forgot which planet/book it was in) negotiate with the rebels to beat a common foe. There could be a temperory truce to beat a stronger neutral party. (the empire ended up betraying the rebels but were killed because the rebels had Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade and Han Solo, and the others)

I agree. Though for the rebels, it might have to be not just the promise, but the real thing of military or economical to convince the locals to rise up against the mighty empire.
