Assault Frigate MKII mod

the Assault Frigate Mk II's design is so painful I propose a mod just to make it look better.

its not from a dreadnaught, the MKII is from something we've never seen before

 

this is the official assault frigate, from a dreadnaught, (though its significantly less modified then some assault frigates which sometimes remove more plating)

one thing people have to realize is that a lot of star wars ships have multiple official references that may not look alike or at all, but the AF Mk II is definately new to EAW

I didn't think the original design was half bad, but leave it to EvilleJedi to make something a thing of beauty. Though I am wondering if the concept of the Assault Frigate Mk.2 is different from what we all know as the Assault Frigate. It looks so much like a Nebulon B that I almost wonder if the Assault Frigate might be more analagous to a Nebulon A-2 whereas A stands for assault and B stands for Battle. Just my own personal thoughts.

problem with that is then its a KDY ship that we haven't seen and the design just doesn't fit in the neb-b, neb-b2, corona line, I'm willing to write it off as some sort of freighter conversion, mainly because we don't have many other easily obtainable heavy warship hulls out there like we have the dreadnaughts, so either its a preclonewars-clonewars era ship that is cut down, or its a frieghter conversion.

Well maybe LEC will qualify the origin of this mysterious vessel. I have to put it in the roster of some corporation for my modification.

 

Actually, after looking at the screenshots I think that the two side wings aren't actually wings but electrostatic vanes much like the Nebulon B-1's. Also the hull seems to drop down much farther then you modeled, its hard to tell from the screens we've got.

yeah I'm trying to fix their impressionistic charicature, similarly the broadside and the tartan look like they are in a funhouse mirror, strangely though the normal ships look proportional

 

I don't doubt the radiator theory, but they seem to be structured to also provide some sort of stability in atmosphere (imagine this pogo stick landing?)

Yeah, the Nebulon B has the same stability problem...

 

Now that ship is a Pogo Stick.

 

Another question with this ship is armament and scale... Supposedly this thing was able to take on heavier ships, maybe even a Victory class from what Delphi has said.

 

Getting these ships right will be tough... I know, use the Concept artwork as a starting point. From the look of the concept art I was wrong about the electrostatic vanes, but it still looks like someone chopped the front off a Nebulon B and sat on it...

Thanks very much for the new design for the MKII Eville. I agree that the initial one was quite ugly compared to the Dodonna-class Assault Frigate.

Hey eville, hate to be a critic, but the Broadside is a little pale, and the Decimator is a little grey . Apart from that, I must have missed this thread somehow..

The Broadside actually looks to big to my eye, I mean in the concept art they show it next to a TIE Fighter and its not all that much bigger then the starfighter.

 

JI, I think you got your units mixed up, the top one is a Tartan and the bottom one is a Broadside.
