Arguably the coolest thing out of the new info, so far we know:

-It is an imperial structure, land based.

-It can be used to take down enemy space stations.

Questions to be asked:

-Can it fire on enemy ships? Seems like this would be the more useful feature of it, and it wouldn't be to unbalacing because it would probably have a long reloading time.

Oh how much I would love to lure Ackbar into my sector, only to find I have one of them. Fire on the nearest mon cal crusier...."Its a trap!"

i would assume it can, but it would be very inaccurate, a station moves in a orbit around the planet, so it is relatively still compared to a moving star ship.

My opinion at least...

I thought that the Hypervelocity Gun, like an Ion cannon and ground AAs was a Global unit.

It doesn't say on the site that it is only Imperial. It should be available to both. The Rebels also need it more than the Imperials do. Also, the gun took out a level 5 space station in one shot! That's incredible firepower. I feel sorry for any hero ship that ventures anywhere near that planet.

The paragraph above the video says that a "level 5 Rebel spacestation has ventured by one of your planets"...Spacestations like that don't move!

How is this different from a Golan, and why wasn't a Golan included instead?

Yeah they can, all they need is a Hyperdrive or Sublight engines. Of course it could have been Hyper-towed by a larger ship.

The hypervelocity gun had better cost a lot, because add that with an ion cannon(at least one), some ground turbolasers, an average fleet, and a spacestation, and you're toast! That is when you bring in the Death Star and blow up the planet in frustration! :D Another reason why the hypervelocity gun has to be for Rebels and Imperials!

From what I can tell the rebs get the Ion cannon, and the imps get the HG.

This makes sense to me if for no other reason than the beam of the HG, notice how close in apperance and sound it is to the superlaser. Since the rebles didnt have superlaser tech, I doubt they could develope an offshoot of a superlaser.

If you capture one intact tho then maybe you can build them, might even be part of the reb tech tree....but I doubt it.

I am guessing that it is strictly an Imperial weapom, because on the site it says "imperial structure" under the name.

I imagine the ion canon is the rebel equivelent, it just disables the ship it hits, not destroys it. Fits continuity well too because the rebels would be more inclined to destroy whatever it wants, where rebels would disable ships to gain supplies.

Also ike mentioned above, the rebels wouldn't have superlaser tech, the imps have it from building the death star.

the Hypervelocity Gun is also available for a space emplacement if you look on the coming soon list underneath the current lists on that page so is the Ion Cannon a space based weapon as well, but i think that atleast a Golon 1 should have been added to the game

I was just thinking how months ago everyone was complaining because we all wanted the DS to fire upon capital ships. :) It doesn't seem quite so important anymore, does it?

I must admit I love the weapon, but I did also enjoy the breaking apart effects on the station afterwards. It's probably the normal break apart animation all at once, but it does look cool. Probably one of my favourite clips so far.

Ion Cannons and Hyper guns are built only on planets. They will not have a variation that can be built in space. It would make no sense since the weapons are designed to fire at space based objects.

So Hypervelocity Guns are ground-based then? I also noticed there were LNR Series I/II in previous games, I guess it's not as cool looking though.

That's a goddamn sick gun. I'm going to have one on every planet.

Better save those credits. You'll be making tough choices since not every planet can hold the same amount of structures.

We'll be limited by credits? How does that work? I thought the government in control can always print more money? :P

It depends on how many planets you control, the more you control, the more you can build.

I've always wondered about that.. does that imply a point system similar to Force Commander, or an automatically-gathering resource system similar to Dawn of War?

Hmmm... I bet that that means that it is a type of Hypervelocity or Ion cannon that can be put in space maybe... or maybe they can fire at the ground? Thats a long shot though.

These are ground based weapons used as planetary defense against space ships. Remember Battle of Hoth? Ion Cannons firing at Cap ships. That is what these two weapons do. Nothing more.
