Christmas, part 1

I'm thinking this is a United States thing, so do any of my fellow yanks remember when Thanksgiving used to be be Thanksgiving and not Christmas, part 1? Seriously, as early as last Friday I saw holiday decorations up in stores and these ecorations were on sale since the beginning of the month. My local LAN center put up a Christmas tree last Tuesday.... W... T... F!?!?!?!?! Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the rabid commercialism that is the holiday season, but can't I eat my turkey first before the corporations mind rape me? The holiday season seems to get earlier and earlier every friskin' year. By my calculations, in about 8 years Santa is going to be handing out Halloween candy in the mall! Think about it, do you find that really surprising? Now you can be forgiven if you get your holiday shoping done in October (though I perfer the thrill of last minute shopping on Dec. 23rd and the numerous fights that occurs), but do you really need to have your tree set up then? I think it should be federal law that no Christmas decorations are allowed to be publicly displayed untill December. If you do not comply with this law, you will rescieve a Rodney King style beating by the local law enforcement (which would probably do so anyways) and all of your holiday decorations publicly burned. Okay, maybe the enforcement is a little over-the-top, but if a school in Pennsylvania can have a local law passed that you aren't allowed to critizes anyone's values, I think I can get a ban on pre-December holiday decorations! Who follows free speech now-a-days anyhow?

tch i know what you are saying...to me it was a real  to have people playing christmas music before thanksgiving, i even saw people putting on thier lights yesterday! it sickens me really, why do the global franchises Target and other companies stress that we start xmas earlier? i like my family rule, no xmas stuff OF ANY KIND may it be music, lights, or movies before thanksgiving, and only after is the ban lifted

well have a happy christmas part 1 day

Dont know if any other Euro's celebrate this but on December 5 you put a slipper under the living room window or infront of the fireplace. Then during the day/night/next morning you get a small gift of some sort.

I remember I got things I needed. For the Santa thing being real , for safety reasons i'll stay neutral on that. I agree with this early christmas on if it starts in november. Get your stuff now before it is sold out.

You get small presents on December 5th in a slipper? What's the story behind that? Never heard of such thing...

We dont celebrate on the 5th, we celebrate on the 6th wich is Finland's independence day. Go Suomi, (Finland in Finnish) 88 years of freedom from Russia and we're rollin' nicely!

Go Leafs go!

Well I asked and all I was told it was to celebrate that Santa is getting ready and on his way on December 25th. I only know people in Slovakia who celebrate it but i'm guessing it is over Europe also since someone knew what was name day in Sweden. I got 2 people to celebrate it but they got nothing...........o well. :|

Well 2 year I only got a gift on Dec 5 instead of Dec 25 so............. :P But I did get electronics after december 25 such as a cell phone I have now.

It must be a western european tradition, because I'm afraid I've never heard of it. Having said that my knowledge of specific christmas traditions in other countries is decidedly scetchy.

Anyway, the decorations around Canterbury seem all to be up again, and have been for a while though. They even had christmas things in some stores before haloween. Now that's taking it to crazy levels.

My Christmas tradition consist of

1 - Chopping down some pine tree and sticking it in some glorified vase thing.

2 - Putting shiny things on said tree

3 - Putting enough lights on the house so that pilots confuse us with the local airport

4 - Nailing some over sized socks to a wall

5 - Camp the roof with an AWP in hopes of getting some flying venison

6 - Get called a camping, AWPing b**** by some fat guy in red.

7 - Wake my parents (I usually go to their house for christmas) around 3am and repeatedly ask, in a rapid fashion, can I tear into my m@d l3wt yet.

8 - And finally, gathering my m@d l3wt from under said tree and over sized sock on Dec. 25th and get sick from eating all 300 lbs of my candy before breakfast...

That's real funny, G-Vader, but getting eaten by a nation of corruption and poor people is not my idea of having a fun time...

To get even close to getting back on topic, it's snowing here! Christmas is saved!

yea, your christmas is saved.....ours is still ruined! no snow! only heavy downour of rain! alas we are doomed!

Well if no western counties in Europe know this then it must be a Eastern thing since Slovakia and Czech Republic did it and i'm talking about the December 5th thing.

December 25th we all know and love and I like Dec 5 since I can get gifts on that date also.
