Lytyr Posted November 13, 2005 Posted November 13, 2005 This thought just occured to me - will this game be playable over a LAN without needing two copies of the game, like so many other games out there? I hope we can pop the CD in, start the game, then take it out and put in another computer with the same version installed and play like that - like how AoE and AoK worked, if you guys know what I mean. Do we know if this is the case? Currently waiting to get Age of Empires 3, Dawn of War, and Star Wars: Empire at War
Ghostly_Substance Posted November 13, 2005 Posted November 13, 2005 Well with the copyright issues and crap like that I doubt it but who knows. If we can at least have it on the same network like a LAN then thats great even tho I play in Single and multiplayer. -One Empire falls another riseshttp://myanimelist.net/signature/EuroSubstance.png http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/os/type/2/ghostlysubstance.png
Foshjedi2004 Posted November 13, 2005 Posted November 13, 2005 I think it will be LAN friendly but we'd need Delphi to talk us through what there is planned. http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa197/knivesdamaster/tags/sith_omguserbar_member.jpg
General Ackbar Posted November 13, 2005 Posted November 13, 2005 LAN is always nice to have Its a trap! -Admiral Ackbar
Delphi-PG Posted November 13, 2005 Posted November 13, 2005 There will of course be LAN support, but there is no time in the process to code in support for spawned MP copies. I will mark it down for future products though. Delphi-PGGame Designer/Community Rephttp://www.petroglyphgames.com
Sparky Posted November 13, 2005 Posted November 13, 2005 Hopefully the will do something like X-Wing Vs Tie Fighter...they had a multiplayer disc included with the game.
Lytyr Posted November 14, 2005 Author Posted November 14, 2005 Thanks for the reply, Delphi - nice to know that it's not been neglected, even though it might be difficult. Currently waiting to get Age of Empires 3, Dawn of War, and Star Wars: Empire at War
Megajames Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 Hopefully the will do something like X-Wing Vs Tie Fighter...they had a multiplayer disc included with the game. That would be so useful, i am fed up of games i can't play against my friends because of needing two discs. Evacuate, in our moment of triumph. I think you overestimate their chances. Little.B Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 Yeah. Perhaps something that you can send in your maunaul (or whatever has the cdkey on it) and (for a small fee) in return you get your manual and an additional CD which only works in LAN. Wow, that would be nice but I will buy the game even if it lacks of this feature http://www.pexsus.com/~littleb/eaw/banner_eaw.jpgFeel the ForceIRC (QuakeNet): #empireatwar

The only RTS games I know that you can play with a single disc and CD key are the Genie engine games - AoE, AoK, and SWGB. Sadly, those games are... well... old. I'd love to play the newer, more in-depth stuff with my dad (whom I game with often), but a lot of it doesn't work. We still get a kick out of 400 medieval units facing it off on the battlefield, but it's not quite as fun as playing, say, Empires or C&C: Generals would be.
