Why does the B-wing have an air scoop when it's a spacecraft?

 

All Rebellion fighters are also perfectly suited to atmospheric combat.

maybe it's not the engine but the launcher for the bigger missiles it can carry.

Those intakes only apply to when they're in an atmosphere, though.

.... I think in the futuristic setting they'd be able to develop something better than an air cooled engine. And given the extreme conditions space has to offer, air cooled engines are not an option, you'd need something more effective..

Now that makes sense! But their orientation to the engines and design makes me think air intakes. But a weapons slot seems more logical and cooler design wise.

The dispersal of energy in space is vastly greater than in atmospheres because of the low amount of particles in a vacuum. I believe that's also a reason for all the openings.

B-wing maby not, there just replacements for the Y-wings, tie intercepters, definaly they empire needs some speedy units.

But in battlefrount II they are scouts, slow scouts but still scouts. Even so they are my fravorite tie.
