...why my post count has dropped by over 100?

 

I tend to put a lot of effort into my posts when I make them, were they really all that bad?

Becuase Fosh and Ghostly were deleting old topics. I suggested an archive forum but noooooo.

Yeah, I just feel a bit miffed. I was above good ol' Swiftdraw by 100 posts yesterday, and now I'm equal. It kinda makes me feel unwanted.

Who decided to delete old topics ?

 

And why ? Since we are not the ones who host them anyway ! So space is not an issue for us.

 

More topics means that we will be more easly found in a google search or yahoo or what ever.

 

So pls. from now one do not clean the forums. A spamed topic can be deleted but just this.

Ok it seems that from the GD forum 2-4 pages are missing....now I know why our forum droped in google searches I usually check this ...

I'm so upset that I .... Someone should PM Ismael if he does not know. I will be away for a day or two to calm down.

 

1. Old topics are our history - they should not be deleted. Old topics do not consume our hosting space.

2. New sub forums should be voted on before they are done - they cant show up over night.

3. Deleting old forums will affect the members ranks and this is unacceptable by any means. This is a major issue in terms of ALL forums "must not do"'s policy.

4. Any deletion is irreversible so it cannot be fixed. The damage is done.

5. The forum's ranking has dropped in the Google and Yahoo search engines. From the first page we are now on the second - third one - and this is a major blow to us since we have a poor URL and we need those topics numbers. We have been set back with at least one month and the damage may have repercussions in the future since the other forums do not have this setback.

6. A punishment will be given to the persons involved. A special rank will be made to demote them to "Apprentice" status for a month, or another form of punishment should be considered if they want to suggest it.

Ghostly. He deleted 400 Of my Posts the Bastard. I was telling him to slow down but he wanted to get rid of 2 or 3 pages in the GD. I was saying that some of the stuff can be necroposted as it may become viable in the future.

 

JFYI I was against it. I wanted to keep many of the deleted topics. Both Juggernaut and I said move it to an Archive topic but Ghostly deleted tehm anyway.

First there are too moderators here, we can't follow what everyone make and we can't concertate ourselves a lot.

 

Then, as we aren't very organized, everybody tries to do his best but something one person considers a good thing to do (deleting posts) he might be in fact a very bad idea.

 

I hope we will be able to turn this positively. Cain and Ismael you have to hold order evrywhere on the forums

Topics you guys want to delete should be sent/moved here in the MAW with the title modified with this addition [to Delete].

 

Do not let any link in the previuos forum - it is not looking nice to have the slots occupied by moved topics notes.

I almost fell like I had a heart attack in the morning - ONE MONTH BACK in the Google ranks !!!!!!!!!!!! - Ghostly should ask before doing such operations - what was in his head ?!?!

 

What can I say ..... I will have to consult with Ismael before takeing a final decision.

 

I'm quite sad - Ghostly will take the rank youngling until the end of the year since he didn't contacted the rest of the admins and he didn't followed the other moderators advaices. It remains to see hwat Ismael will say.

Ghostly don't worry / I have chated with Cain and we see no reason to make you just a moderator or a member. just don't clean so massivly the forums. We need that old topics for various reasons. Pls try to contact us first if you feel the need to delete topics

We should just have an Archive forum as I suggested in the chat, no posts will be lost but we can also keep forums clean.

That's what we make on our forums.

 

We have a trash forum where we put all spam messages.

An archive forum where we put all "work post" of the dev team.

 

And, as we have lots of posts (arround 400,000 every 6 monthes) we have to keep forums slim so we delete 300,000 messages, to go down to 100,000 messages and all messages are backuped through databases.

 

No problems since early 2000

The problem is that Cain and Ismael can't back up this forum at all, so anything gone is gone forever here. It makes archiving in that way impossible with forumer.com

 

I agree with the Archive idea. Having said that, I don't see the forums in such of a mess as they are. Maybe come release of EAW it might be more of an issue, but as of yet it doesn't look necessary to me. But yeah, if people want to tidy, an archive forum seems like the obvious solution.
