Comparison of Space Units

This is just a chart based on screens shots attempting to classify and show comparable units in EAW. I have also included for comparison ships appearing in the X-Wing Series and Rebellion. Compared to the selection of available units in Rebellion I find this pretty skimpy, that being said I think the Imperials do pretty well(at least better then the rebels) in getting the most important classes in the game. If this comparison is correct each race gets 7 build able ships and 3 build able fighters. Being in software development myself and having followed Lucas Arts over the years I think is doubtful that we will see the addition of anymore units to this list this close to the game demo release. However, it is possible that they are being exceptionally careful in selecting screenshots. I note that there is room for a couple of additional units to match the question marks and the Corvette comparisons may need to be reshuffled. If people show interest I will do a comparison of ground units.

Capital Ships

Imperial Star Destroyer=Home One (limited too one only)

Victory Star Destroyer= MC-80

Frigate

Venator=Assault Frigate MKII

Scout

Tie Scout –A Wing

That reminds me.

Exactly what use will the Tie Scout be to us?

What is it's purpose?

Will it be used as a scouting ship in Strategic Mode? After all, it is a long range scout ship.

Or something else in the Tactical Mode?

The ship isn't exactly a fighter.

I mean, it's got 1 lasercannon, is packed with God knows what kinds of different sensors and scanners, plus a hyperdrive. Possibly even life support system, but that last part is just a guess by me.

At a size of 24 meters, compared to a standard TIE Fighter which is around 6 meters, this makes for a somewhat large target, which also lacks real firepower.

If it's only ment to be used in the tactical mode, wouldn't it make more sense to use the TIE Vanguard instead? A 6 meter large, shortrange Recon ship? Yeah, it still only has 1 cannon, but atleast it isn't so large that it might aswell paint a sign that says "Shoot me" on it. :P

Jan, I was thinking the same thing. I'm new to the board and didn't want to say that much and get yelled at for flaming :)

An awing would work a tie scout in combat, from a tech spec standpoint

And I think you're all nuts....

Maybe they'll re-work the scout so it is like the TIE Interceptor or they'll nerf the A-wing.

I think you're all dorks.....wait a second. I'm complementing you guys! I know you all just want to be like me....

Anywho....I hope the A-Wing is a lot more powerful than the Imperial scout or whatever we're comparing it to.

Judging by the screens I'd say in this game a winged Mon Cal (I'm not good with class names) is about as powerful as an Imperial SD. Sad.

I saw two screens one with a SD combat-rated 70, and a MCC combat-rated 80... Probably only the Victory-class, however.

Currently waiting to get Age of Empires 3, Dawn of War, and Star Wars: Empire at War

I find that a horrid thought to be honest.

You don't just change a thing just to fit the part.

You either create a new thing, or you use an existing design as it is that would fit the part. Not take something that doesn't fit and change it into something it isn't.

At least you hope that you don't. We don't really know just yet. I want to keep my faith in the Petro guys, but I still feel that the game most of us want to play is a mod or two away from what Petroglyph will release.

I agree the game probably will be a mod or two away from what we want to play. Hopefully, the demo will allow us to see enought about the final release to have our mods ready for release day.

PHHHT, 4 or 5 Home Ones couldnt take on an Imperial. It has a small array of weapons and is probably on par with the Errant Venture from EU.
