Makwu Posted October 10, 2005 Posted October 10, 2005 Can we please stop locking and unlocked threads and then relocking threads? The damage control value of doing so is zero. A simple "Please stay on topic" post would be sufficient. Damage can rarely be undone. And the fans on these forums who are simply here to chat and speculate freely about this upcoming game(The majority), should not be the ones having to deal with the consequences of secretive behind the scenes politics. Let the chat run its course. The constant moderation interference has drawn way more attention to the threads than ever would have been if left alone. Thank you.
General Ackbar Posted October 10, 2005 Posted October 10, 2005 this could have probably been handled with a PM Its a trap! -Admiral Ackbar
Darkmark Posted October 10, 2005 Posted October 10, 2005 We're sorry about this, and we're bound to rectify the situation soon, but the events of today behind the scenes do require us to take some action on specific threads. I must admit this all does look very 'dodgy' from an outside perspective, but please bear with us. Cain and the mods are doing their utmost to get things settled. Nevets Posted October 10, 2005 Posted October 10, 2005 Yea this kind of stuff usually isn't good if you want to have a growing community... ...but it sure is fun to watch
Sparky Posted October 10, 2005 Posted October 10, 2005 did i miss something here? it's been a few days since i was last here...when i checked the site yesterday, something seemed out of wack. A simple explanation as to where this started, where its at, and where its going would be greatly appreciated. Sparky

A simple explanation as to where this started, where its at, and where its going would be greatly appreciated. Sparky A member released information that he emailed petroglyph and they said the SSD was in, supposedly this was only suppose to be known by the mods. So they did some damage control and said it was only a "rumor". So the same member today said there is a "rumor" that you can create multiple SSDs, and that seemed to really anger the Mods.
JanGaarni Posted October 10, 2005 Posted October 10, 2005 I really don't get why this is such a hush-hush topic all of a sudden. If Petroglyph has asked you guys to keep the chatter about the SSD down to a minimum I can understand you. If that supposed mail was thought to be confidential, then the guys that are making the Legacy of War Mod did, in my mind, a no-no. But then you have this quote from Foshjedi2004: Quote The SSD has been confirmed from a load of sources. In one of My mags from ages ago in the background they had the DS and SSD before they were confirmed. Now, if it's been already confirmed, both in mails to Legacy of War, and several other sources, plus there's a picture of an SSD in some old mag, then why all the hush-hush all of a sudden? And not only is it a hush-hush topic, it's also been bumped down, appearantly, from confirmed to "rumor". Notice how "rumor" is almost always typed with quotation marks? Why is that? Anyway, if you guys want this to still be a rumor, don't feed people with such comments as "Sorry but we cannot disclose the E-mail as it has the address of the Petroglyph Offices on it". As a Mod for several years now, and been on the net for even longer, I've been in my share of arguments. That's a highly flamable comment to give.My personal advice is: Pick your words carefully. Analyze everything you are about to post, scrutinize it and poke holes in it to make sure it's water proof, that you can't be arrested on anything or your post backfire. Sure, leave some hot material they (the debaters on the other end) can throw themself over, trying to win the debate or catch you in a lie or whatever, but turns out to be a trap laid by you. But be absolutely 100% sure that the trap is waterproof before you do such a risky move. Anyway, I'm rambling. In this case, this is how the reply to the request to show the mail should have looked like: Quote Get it?Absolutely nothing. If you want it to be secretive, don't add more fuel to the fire, and then lock the thread a few posts later. Some things arn't ment for the public to see sometimes. Now, bottom line is, we all make mistakes from time to time. Lord knows, I've done mine up the years, and I most likely are going to make new ones as time goes by. Personally, without knowing the full details here, I don't see this as a very huge mistake. http://www.lfnetwork.com/images/lfnlinker.gifStar Wars: Empire at War.Net Moderator&SWGalaxies Moderator Co-Leader of The Affiliates! -A-- What we do in life, echoes in eternity!- May the pants be with you!
Nevets Posted October 10, 2005 Posted October 10, 2005 Uh-oh, a Petroglyph guy is now browsing the site, that can't be good.
Wiking_pff Posted October 10, 2005 Posted October 10, 2005 This is getting out of hand, do we really need more than one topic for this? I say delete the topic(s) in question, and let's move on.
Juggernaut1985 Posted October 10, 2005 Posted October 10, 2005 I don't see what the fuss is over a 5 month old piece of info. It was always speculated that it was going to be in, and now fosh says he saw it a mag, so essentially its there. I'd be willing to bet we see the Death Star 2 also, but at a later time.
Sparky Posted October 10, 2005 Posted October 10, 2005 Well thats interesting. Iin my own humble opinion the thead should have been left open. My reasoning is if you tell someone not to read something, whats the first thing they do when you leave...the read it, same way with theads if you want to get people to read it lock it down and forbid the topic, every one will read it to see why...heck i just did after i found out that it was locked...curisoty killed the cat...not the person. The mods should have just ignored it, and unless the e-mail actually exists and was/is released, every one would have just dismissed it as a rumor or an excuss to talk about EAW. I mean lets face it theres hasn't been much info released about this game lately...so people are trying to scratch at straws. If Petro/Lucasarts wanted to keep this a secret, they should have used the age old technique of misdirection...Release info about the game to keep the people discussing that stuff instead of trying to speculate about the secret aspecst of the game. And this is definatly not as big as a problem as some people are making out ot be. But hey...thats my opinion. Sparky
Gen.Vader Posted October 10, 2005 Posted October 10, 2005 i say there are too many mods, there used to only be like 5-7 but now there is over 10, 14 i think.and if they can all lock threads, there are too many of them to just agree on what to lock and what not to lock. thats my hypothesis anyways I've have you now - Lord Vader
Darkmark Posted October 10, 2005 Posted October 10, 2005 It's more about lack of communication, but let's be fair. This situation was handled badly, and I personally would very much have wanted to run the whole thing along the lines of what Jan Gaarni pointed out, but on the whole the mods do a good job. The number does help the forum stay in check. The truth is there isn't much you can pin a scapegoat to. I think the whole of this was that it blew out of hand with some very poorly worded posts, the strength Cain puts into his posts, some lack of co-ordination among us mods resulting in twice locking the same post, and that desire everyone in the community has to prove that a SSD really was in there, reading into every word as if we're infallible. It's due to a lot of factors, and I for one am glad it's finally over, despite that meaning we won't be seeing a ssd in game. Gen.Vader Posted October 10, 2005 Posted October 10, 2005 or is it? im glad too, it was one of those topics that i didnt find out until today and got resolved in a daygood riddance too, just looking at the thread gave me a headache I've have you now - Lord Vader
Ghostly_Substance Posted October 10, 2005 Posted October 10, 2005 Ok Mak Wu dont just dont.........Your now just making spam and I only locked the SSD topics to stop the rumor to grow so much but when I lock it someone unlocks it or the last topic I locked. The first topic was locked by Fosh it seems. Its not that its confidential but its just to much problems are spawning. -One Empire falls another riseshttp://myanimelist.net/signature/EuroSubstance.png http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/os/type/2/ghostlysubstance.png
Foshjedi2004 Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 For the moment I will just say sorry for the topic locking. I, like Darkmark said, was trying to cut down the problems that will spawn if some of these things are leaked over the internet. The Moderators are chartered to basically limit the amout of problems encountered and to ensure that there aren't major breaches of confidentiality. http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa197/knivesdamaster/tags/sith_omguserbar_member.jpg

Grand Admiral Thrawn 889 Posted October 25, 2005 Posted October 25, 2005 Cain/Fosh/ ADmin... why do you lock supersition threads anyway we have freedom of word by internation law so if we wanna talk about something we should b allowed to. http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n292/Admiral_Antilles/Thrawncopy.jpghttp://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg I Support the Resistance!
Foshjedi2004 Posted October 25, 2005 Posted October 25, 2005 Thrawn. We lock topics when we feel that they have either gone completely off topic or if they have finished their uses. http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa197/knivesdamaster/tags/sith_omguserbar_member.jpg
Swiftdraw Posted October 25, 2005 Posted October 25, 2005 I don't think internet forums are covered in that, and if it is, there is no one to enforce it. I'm now teh lurker.http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/bg/type/2/swiftdraw.png
Popcorn2008 Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 Yeah there is no great big internet law. You may be refering to American freedom of speech, but of course this is not a totally american site. The internet is not bound by a set of laws. Though it can be bound by laws laid down in your own country, like china banning certain sites. Of course the overall say of how this site is run, isnt bound by any laws. The site can be run in anyway the Mods or Admins see fit. http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg> Petroglyph Forums Moderator> LucasForums Moderator
Grand Admiral Thrawn 889 Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 thats not very fair but you may lock it if it's gone completely off topic but then how come we dont get the usual can we please stay on topic post? http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n292/Admiral_Antilles/Thrawncopy.jpghttp://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg I Support the Resistance!
Swiftdraw Posted October 28, 2005 Posted October 28, 2005 So you're volunteering for that? Also I've never seen a "usual" stay on topic post.... I think I've seen four, one of which was by me... I'm not going to touch "thats not very fair" I'm now teh lurker.http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/bg/type/2/swiftdraw.png
