Naja Posted October 6, 2005 Posted October 6, 2005 I was just thinking about old favorites like TIE Fighter and X-Wing: Alliance, and wondering if there's still a market for them. Is the genre still alive and kicking, or dead in the water to all that Halo-esque FPS crap?
Foshjedi2004 Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 I still play them even if I'm on my own http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa197/knivesdamaster/tags/sith_omguserbar_member.jpg
Nevets Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 Lucasarts needs to realize that there is still a big market for flight sims and people would go nuts over a well developed star wars flight sim (a new one long the lines of the x-wing and tie fighter ones, not like jedi starfighter.)
Teradyn_pff Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 Yeah, but the money is with all the snot dribbling whiney, "Jar Jar is cool" Ep I-III fan-babies. GAAARRRRGH I would like to see something like Alliance or Savage where you have cap ship combat controlled by players and fighters controlled by players as well. Almost like a EAW space portion where a commander is elected on each side and to the cap ships etc. What you think? I'm not sure how well it would work with other players playing as your fighter/bomber compliment. It would be frustrating to tell your team to take out the other side's bombers and they refuse to listen to you and go dogfight instead or attack the enemy capital ship(s). Maybe that could be the multiplayer mode of the game where you control your capital ship. http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/sh/type/0/garbageben.png
Stellar_Magic Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 Yeah well in response to some of the comments... The average age of flight sim players is much higher then other games (Partially because it takes so much more time and practice to master flying), so I'd think a well designed flight sim would more likely be wanted by the fans of the original trilogy then the new stuff. In terms of flight sims there have been a few very successful ones recently, IL2 and its sequeals and spin offs for one. Janes is still kicking as well. The thing is designing a Star Wars flight sim with the same features as those would be much more difficult. I'd love to see one made though. Naja Posted October 7, 2005 Author Posted October 7, 2005 I've always figured, now that computer engines are getting that much more graphically powerful, why not expand the grandiosity of the battles you're flying in? Your battles, even the Battle of Endor for XW:A, seem very detatched and small scale. What if you got to be a TIE pilot in a massive, 6 squadron raid on a Rebel base? Also, I'd prefer them to actually make capital ships powerful - an ISD shouldn't be destroyable by a mere 3 Y-Wing squadrons.
Popcorn2008 Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 I love the flight sims! I still play TIE Fighter constantly lol, but i need to buy x-wing alliance again cause i broke the second CD so i cant finish the campaign! lol I would love to see a modern adaptation of a Flight sim with super cool graphics and stuff. And the ability to control capital ships. http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg> Petroglyph Forums Moderator> LucasForums Moderator
Ghostly_Substance Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 I constructed an idea but it got lost somewhere. Only if Lucasarts makes a game like that it would be sweet to play. Well theres a realistic WW2 game coming out about planes and it looks nice but I dont want a time consuming game. Well you never know they might be making more. -One Empire falls another riseshttp://myanimelist.net/signature/EuroSubstance.png http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/os/type/2/ghostlysubstance.png
Swiftdraw Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 You basiclly want a Rouge Squadron for PC then... Fun, but not too in depth. I'm now teh lurker.http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/bg/type/2/swiftdraw.png
Grand Admiral Thrawn 889 Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 the old sim were the best but id like one against the vong. http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n292/Admiral_Antilles/Thrawncopy.jpghttp://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg I Support the Resistance!
Foshjedi2004 Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 I want a new SW X-wing game but set in the Yuuzhan Vong time period with the coral skippers. You are Jaina Solo and there are 1st person areas when you are a jedi. http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa197/knivesdamaster/tags/sith_omguserbar_member.jpg
Nevets Posted October 16, 2005 Posted October 16, 2005 You basiclly want a Rouge Squadron for PC then... Fun, but not too in depth. Yea, but rouge squadron wasn't really a flight simulator. It was and it wasn't, it was more along the lines of a flying FPS.
Grand Admiral Thrawn 889 Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 yeha i never got to play the Rogue SQuad's i didnt buy a GameCube to find out http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n292/Admiral_Antilles/Thrawncopy.jpghttp://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg I Support the Resistance!
Nevets Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 yeha i never got to play the Rogue SQuad's i didnt buy a GameCube to find out They were fun, just not really fullfilling for some who likes flight sims.
JanGaarni Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 Rogue Squadron was more of an Arcade rather than a flight simulator. Further more, it is not surprising seeing it was mainly aimed at the consoles. Not that Rogue Squadron is bad or anything, don't get me wrong. http://www.lfnetwork.com/images/lfnlinker.gifStar Wars: Empire at War.Net Moderator&SWGalaxies Moderator Co-Leader of The Affiliates! -A-- What we do in life, echoes in eternity!- May the pants be with you!
Nevets Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 Yea I would like a game where cap ships are controlable as well. Has always been my dream to be on the bridge of a star destroyer and watch the battle unfold, and if things got bad I would jump on to one of its turrents and shoot down some wings. This probably wont happen any time soon, but I can see it happening in the distant future, once the cap for online games has risen, since a game like this would need lots of player playing at once.
Darkpower2005 Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 Me personally, I think x-wing alliance was the best flght sim. But I do wish they would make some more. I'm thinking about making vidogames for a living and if I had the chance I would make one.Just need some ideas. -Don't do juma and drive-

Little.B Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 Just imagine a flight-sim like X-Wing vs TIE-Fighter (please do never thinking about putting Ep 1-3 crap in it. I want the classics!) with up-to date graphics, a scenario editor and multiplayer mode. Damn this would be the game I will never stop playing. Ok, if all comes right EaW will also be one of these games but this would be the game have have been dreaming on for years now! Please LA give us a SW flight-sim! http://www.pexsus.com/~littleb/eaw/banner_eaw.jpgFeel the ForceIRC (QuakeNet): #empireatwar
Popcorn2008 Posted October 23, 2005 Posted October 23, 2005 (please do never thinking about putting Ep 1-3 crap in it.)I couldnt agree with you more. The classic ships designs rule, and look, in my opinion, better than the prequel designs. http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg> Petroglyph Forums Moderator> LucasForums Moderator
