Ghostly_Substance Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 Well thought I might post about dragons since they're cool creatures. Gen.Vader Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 dragons are cool, i wish for a game where dragons can be more than flying juggernauts of war, like transports and able to use magic and have a bu\igger impact on story. but thats just me, i find dragons fascinating, how they came into our folktales and legends, and how diffrent authors describe them just like they describe orks diffrently. but the general assumption is that dragons are wise old creatures, able to live hundreds of years, have a bird like evolution(eggs, flying etc) and i think that dragons first learned how to breathe fire by thier great ancestor had flown over a volcanoe and it erupted! the dragon could not see through the smoke and fekll into the crater of lava, gasping for ar the dragon was forced to swallow the lava, instead of liquiefying him,the dragons hide withncontact from the lava, turned to be fireproof and he survived. they have been spewing fire ever since! I've have you now - Lord Vader
Ghostly_Substance Posted September 29, 2005 Author Posted September 29, 2005 I was watching discovery channel and it said hydrogen was used for flying and for blowing out fire from its 4 lungs. It had a fake mouth top like alligators or was it crocks. The dragons ate some mineral to spark the hydrogen to create the flame to protect itself. The dragons survived the ice age buy evolving into sea dragons and once everything became normal they evolved back into dragons and ignorant humans started hunting them down. "Omg these dragons are pure evil we must kill them they are stealing all our sheep and they killed 2 of our men". Couple days later the men returned to the cave where the dragons were and both sides lost (Fighting humans and dragons). The ignorant humans killed off the "evil" baby female dragon and killed the mother dragons. This was around midevil times (sp) -One Empire falls another riseshttp://myanimelist.net/signature/EuroSubstance.png http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/os/type/2/ghostlysubstance.png
Swiftdraw Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 I hope you don't think dragons existed... That show was a "what if..." sort of thing. I like dragons, exspecially when I had a guy playing as a evil cleric and basiclly ruining the D&D scenario for everyone. Example, he sold all of his compatriot's souls to a Balor. After he desecrated and partailly destroyed a small city, it gave me an excuse to bring in help outside of the adventuring party. I dropped a Great Wyrm Gold Dragon into the scenario with 2 ancient Silver ragons backing him up to "stop his evil reign of terror in thier territories." Thats a CR 27 with two CR 26's backing him up. Guess what happened? I'm now teh lurker.http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/bg/type/2/swiftdraw.png
Foshjedi2004 Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 I loved the Film Reign of Dragons. Great times Great Times. The destruction of the Human Race appeals to me for some reason. Maybe because we are too much and are a Cancer of this Planet. http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa197/knivesdamaster/tags/sith_omguserbar_member.jpg

Foshjedi2004 Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 Yeah It's not called the "Dark Ages" for posterity. Loads of Dragons killing us all!!! http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa197/knivesdamaster/tags/sith_omguserbar_member.jpg
Ghostly_Substance Posted September 30, 2005 Author Posted September 30, 2005 Dark ages since all people did was kill one another and spread sicknesses and such. -One Empire falls another riseshttp://myanimelist.net/signature/EuroSubstance.png http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/os/type/2/ghostlysubstance.png
Darkmark Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 No. The Dark Ages were named thus, since in terms of knowledge there was very little change. All documented word from the Romans before them was in Latin, and therefore the only people with access to understanding it were those in religion. As a result all the knowledge of cleanliness and the Greek medicinal methods was 'lost', so sicknesses became common. The period is followed by the 'Renaissance'...rebirth, when the knowledge held in the Latin became widely available via the invention of the printing press. Nice little bit of history for ya... Hadoken13 Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 w00t black death! anyway actually it kinda makes sence that they could have lived since they are so popular in mythology
Ghostly_Substance Posted September 30, 2005 Author Posted September 30, 2005 If I remember the speaker for that 2 hour show said "How can all these civilizations that never been in contact share the same creature designs" Really how can they ? They never talked or met each other until later in time. Well anybody tracking or looking forward for the PS3 game "Lair" ? -One Empire falls another riseshttp://myanimelist.net/signature/EuroSubstance.png http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/os/type/2/ghostlysubstance.png

Ghostly_Substance Posted September 30, 2005 Author Posted September 30, 2005 Hey hows that worthless, I just mentioned what the speaker said about how different ancient civs never met each other had the same creature in their paintings and drawings. Darkmark Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 anyway actually it kinda makes sence that they could have lived since they are so popular in mythology They couldn't have lived. Although there is little written word from the middle ages, there is record of minor 'local' events in various forms. Some are written in the latin by scribes taught in it who worked for the church, others are by nobles who were taught it, and by other means though not necessarily written. Dragons could not have existed. Think about bones. Consider how many dinosaur bones have been found. In all this time, don't you think we would have found the remains of one. I mean, think how long ago dinosaurs died out compared to how long ago the Dark ages were. The times speak for themselves. Dragons are just the object of the imaginations that spread to become a common myth. Ghostly_Substance Posted September 30, 2005 Author Posted September 30, 2005 1) How can every ancient civilization dream up the same creature ? 2) I believe the corpse in the studio from that "Real-Life Dragons" show was real and I even heard them say it was a real corpse well preserved from an ice cave. 3) People are still finding bones from dinosaurs and we aren't done finding them. -One Empire falls another riseshttp://myanimelist.net/signature/EuroSubstance.png http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/os/type/2/ghostlysubstance.png
Darkmark Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 1) Ok, so we have 5 basic types of creature that are considered all around the world. BirdsInsectsFishLizardsMammals In mythology, you can find many creatures that simply form by a mixture of two groups. Dragons obviously are a mixture of Lizard and Bird. It's obvious that the idea would perhaps originate in several places in the world, though in differing forms and different tales. The original concepts would be vastly different from how we think of dragons now, but as word of mouth (ie: folk stories generally) allowed these to spread with travellers, the varying concepts merged and became more similar to the modern equivalent. A similar modern parallel comes with the lightsaber. The concept of that was as early as the 19th centuary in several of the early science fiction writers. Mr. Lucas hit on an idea, but it wasn't original. It is however what we think of when we hear about a blade of light as a sword. You can come up with an idea that has already been done and not know about it, and this is what happend with dragons and other mystical creatures. There are many different types of vampires/vampire legends from around the world. Only the european one was afraid of catholic symbols and afraid of the dark. 2) When you consider how many distinct dinosaur skeletons have been found for the one type alone (ie: T-Rex), this vastly outnumbers one so called corpse. Bare in mind although it looks like a wonderful way of preserving things, ice isn't the most common way of preserving remains. Being buried below tons of sediment is. Also, a creature that breathes fire (or at least one that is capable of producing it in breath) was living in an area of low temperatures? How many lizards do you see in the arctic? Lastly, and most importantly, how many alien sightings have there ever claimed to be? How many of them do we really believe happened? One skeleton doesn't prove anything, 3) No, but consider how many we've found already. Compare it to how many 'dragon' ones we've found. The sheer amount of dinosaurs found, with the full knowledge there are many, many more to find, proves they exist. The amount of 'dragons' found is far from evidence of anything. Ghostly_Substance Posted September 30, 2005 Author Posted September 30, 2005 You proved one of my points right. 1) If theres something new and so vastly unique nobody will believe it even if its just one piece of it. Then when it smacks people in the face its to late....... For example, That DD bird. -One Empire falls another riseshttp://myanimelist.net/signature/EuroSubstance.png http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/os/type/2/ghostlysubstance.png
Darkmark Posted September 30, 2005 Posted September 30, 2005 True. But truth be told, I prefer the world to look slightly sceptical of new ideas. Better we should wait an extra hundred or so years to learn the truth through our scptical natures than all be as believing in the absurd as conspiracy nuts do. If we believed everything the media threw our way we'd have all kinds of 'mindwashed people' doing exactly what they were told to do, no matter how much it defied logic. I know the coming example is extreme, but I like making examples: Someone says jump off a cliff, the updraft will keep you airbourne. Their evidence for this is that the guy telling you to do it says he's done it and it works. Feel like jumping? I need fully authenticated proof before I believe in extremely unlikely theories. One program professing to have discovered what could have been a dragon or one claiming the moon landing never happened isn't enough for me. When there's ample evidence to the contrary there seems every reason to scrutinise the one (and possibly only) piece of 'evidence' that arises supporting the slightly bizarre one. Ghostly_Substance Posted September 30, 2005 Author Posted September 30, 2005 Damn why did you have to make me remember the fake moon landing. O wow they filmed it but during that time it was easy to make it look real. Well then i'm not saying everybody should be brainwashed but i'm just pointing out that if people are skeptical to much they'll never believe anything which i'm seeing and if your not skeptical you'll believe everything such as 9/11. back to topic ? Dragons is the topic if anybody forgets or has a brain fart like I did 3 times during last and this week. -One Empire falls another riseshttp://myanimelist.net/signature/EuroSubstance.png http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/os/type/2/ghostlysubstance.png

Foshjedi2004 Posted October 1, 2005 Posted October 1, 2005 Why is it called a Komodo Dragon then??? http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa197/knivesdamaster/tags/sith_omguserbar_member.jpg
Darkmark Posted October 1, 2005 Posted October 1, 2005 It's a name. Names can often be decieving. Look at it, it's a big lizard. The dragonfly. Is that a dragon? No. The name means nothing. The name was probably thought up long ago when people thought they could be dragons, before the more modern idea of them became founded in the public consciousness. That doesn't make then dragons though. If we are to examine it, we would find the internal workings of it are very similar to smaller lizards. The internal wokings of a dragon however would have to be considerably different. Lightwight for the ability to fly, well protected since it is capable of producing fire from it's breath... probably due to the sheer size of it, warm blooded... A dragon would be probably closer in terms of physiology to mammals/birds than to lizards. Think rhino-vulture... probably something close to that.
