I'm getting perticularly groovy with the Home City. Let's face it, a custom secondary tech tree for each faction, to be modified by you. Of course I just went straight for the big guns.

So far the problem I've had with the AOE series was that they seemed dull at the start, and rather boring I'm afraid. but since stuff seems to get done more quickly now, and here's more action for those early-game units fighting off treasure guardians and explorers, it's a lot of fun. Also when the units wip out their guns and start a-shootin it gets really fun.

I should see how you contact ES, since I've already found a few bugs I think should be worked out. Also, what happened to the formations system?

Sweet, i can't wait to try it. I've never been a huge fan of AOE series, mostly because of how limited the resourses are, but it looks great in the trailer. It looks great. Thanks for the heads up Indum

Right now my heart is with the brit faction, until the full game comes out. This is because they can get so many villagers so fast (be it by shipment or their special bonus of getting a free villiager for every house) so their economy seems to go pretty fast.

Anybody else notice how the British cleric guy walks on his side. The animation needs to be rotated 90 degrees.

Yeah seeems pretty darn good. I like the customisable tech tree, because it should open up a whole world of different tactics depending on what you choose. I agree with Josh on the limitations on resources. It was a bit annoying when I hit the cap for most things, peasantry, buildings... If I want to populate my land with manor houses when they serve no purpose anymore that should be my choice. I like making true towns and cities. What kind of town has only two homes?

But yeah, not disappointed. I can see myself keeping at the demo until I have a home City of lvl25. That's pretty good.

Mh. Why I do not like it:

- The graphics do only look good when you have a 1337 machine. If you turn down the details the game gets very ugly. (Just have a look at other RTS)

- The control panel takes half of the screen (!)

- Canons are direct hit weapons (do not miss the enemy. SO far in cases of realism)

- The hole tech-tree and general game controling is very confusing. Im very into RTS games and this was the first game which was confusing to me.

To be honest I played the two missions and was simply dissapointed. This is not Age of Empires. I dont know but this looks like a bad clone to me. I dont know what they have been working on for such a long time. It's just unfinished and in my oppinion not well thought out. In my personal oppinion it's in line with "Alexander". A game with a nice idea which ended up crap because the developers wanted to include to much "new ideas". Especially when you are doing the third part of a very succesfull series you should stick to the roots.

I'm off playing some good old AoE2.

It looked like a normal AOE to me  I just had problems in destroying buildings and I didn't know you can make pets lol. I put my pet and hero on a private island so they wont get killed :P

Well these new ideas such as pets I LOVE but I hate that its like other RTSs. I get a pet which is good and I love how your city gains experience but the demo doesn't give you much. Only made it up to level 9 and cant advance above that even tho I killed my foe twice on sandbox  Ya ya I wanted to fool around hence the "Sandbox". The train is a nice addition also.

Heres 2 pics I saved.

Great minds think alike. I also built a second town on the island. It was my farming Island (and then later Capitol). Sorry ghostly, I had a go, but I can't find a way to demolish buildings either.

Oh, anyone else notice how the native americans you can hire on that level are the size of ants and unselectable?

To be honest I played the two missions and was simply dissapointed.

The missions/campaign I disliked mildly too, since they didn't feel aoe like. Maybe it's just the setting of early america I don't quite feel fits. I mean, it's fine for all those patriots aout there, but let's not forget there's a whole lot more to world history than just that.

Skirmish though, that I like (feels moe AOE like). But still, lots of people were/are under the impression AOE3 would be far better than EAW. From what I've seen so far I have to wonder why exactly. Sure it's a good RTS, but so are lots of games, games that won't require top of the range specs. I know which one of the two I'm looking forward to more.

Ok, that sounded pessimistic. Like I said I do like the skirmish and the customisable tech tree... and the trade trains

Lol, I think those are bugs Darkmark. I once upgraded to a train and then I saw it pass through a stage wagon that had just stopped there when I upgraded.

The missions did feel like they left a bit to be desired, but it was worth seein ga horde of railroad workers tearing down a mexican villiage 8)

The fact that they want you to have high specs for this game may be it's weakness. Still, I suppose a lot of people will have better machines by now, so no worries.

Funnily enough, one thing I think they should work on is that upgrade that gives you a Matal for every minute the game has gone by. I ended up with a whole horde of them.

They are bugs, but I like finding problems like that.

Has anyone got a home city above lvl 9? I think that's where they've limited it, but I'm not certain.

well as or the specs, it requires xp made bt\y MICROSOFT and i dont have it and aoe is also made by microsoft so i could see it as an ad for new software....little cheeky bastids....

as for the colonial early america aspect not fittin in,, so fart they have covered every time period and there HAS to be a game for early america in Aoe or its not really aoee, since they have never skipped a time period before. the last one left off with the chriastopher columbeses, and know we must settle

I can't see why people are jumping around getting their knickers in a twist over the theme, ithe colonization of America was important back then.

I think that the thing that upsets me about this is how NOT AOE it feels. Had the same problem with Lords of the Realm III too. Warcraft III seemed to loose the same touch... odd... seeing a pattern here. Maybe third time is not the charm with computer games. Does anyone remember a III being a step up from 2 in a computer game series?
