Well I'll start and since I dont know much about computers i'll ask.

 

Ok what do I need to upgrade:

 

Windowns XP pro

Service pack 2

Intel®

Pentium® 4 CPU 2.40GHz

2.40 GHz, 512 MB of RAM

GeForce FX 5200

 

 

Played Half-Life 2 and Battlefield 2 and was fine. Played Splintercell Demo and FEAR demo and lagged like nuts even on lowest settings.

I'd say get another 512MB RAM for a total of 1 GB. Also I'd suggest a graphics upgrade. Get a 6600GT, but wait a few weeks because prices are supposed to drop with the release of the 7800GT.

Well, all depends of you money amount

First, you should upgrade the RAM to 1GB. (that's certainly why you have problems with Fear and SPlinterCell)

Then, the graphic card will come and finally the processor in this order.

as said before first i would upgrade the RAM. prices are low at them moment so another 512MB should work fine.

 

as for a graphic card upgrade or cpu upgrade, i think you need a new mainboard to --> PCIe instead of AGP. updating to another AGP gpu makes no sense.

 

 

i'm planing to upgrade my system if i actually do need it. I mean the times a new games comes out which i choose to play i'll upgrade. So i have a fast PC i actually do need it. (which basically means upgrade in feb 06 for EAW)

As for the video card part anybody know of a Geforce card under $200 Canadian that can allow tv on the PC ?

the 3 biggest things i look for in a pc is.

 

A) the graphics card is atleast a Radeon 9600/Geforce 6200

B) atleast 1024 RAM, i used to use 512...after i got 1024, i noticed a big change in speed.

C) Hardrive RPM's should be atleast 7200, i prefer a Western Digital Raptor 10000 though.

 

 

lol fosh, the new GeForce 7800 is the best card out, it's 16x's better then the GeForce 6800, which WAS the best card before the 7800...

 

i aint lying either, it actually is 16x's better ^^

I also want to upgrade my xf card. I have a sony vaio which really isn't meant for gaming. It has a SiS 651 intergarated graphics with 32 Mb Video ram. I was told that I couldn't put a card in because it conflicts with the chip set. Any truth to that? Do you have any recomendations? It can go up to 64 mb ram. Can I put 128 mb in? For system memory I am expanding to 1.5gb. What is the difference between DDR and SDRAM. I currently have 515mb ddr-sdram. Any feed back would be apreiciated. Iam not good with hardware so I really don't have a clue.

I want a new motherboard and graphics card... I've no idea what my curent one is, but it isn't sufficent anymore and my Nvidea 5700fx is getting a little long in the tooth.

NOOOOO DAMN NOOOOOOO BLAH NOOOOOO, I dont want my pc to be broken. Its one out of 7 things that aint broken thats electronic. My ps2, pc, dvd player, Gameboy Color/Advance, Speakers with subwoofer, joystick all work. My laptop got busted and now my USB ports on my computer got ruined by someone tripping over it Ok this seriously sucks since I have to use the back USB ports........... Gah computer crap is expensive and I can barely buy games damn it.

 

Damn can USB's from Compaq computers even be replaces ? Compaq Precario S4300NX. Tripping over cables is the number one reason why my computer USB port got busted and why my laptop screen/eithernet/2 Linksys cards got busted.........

I am going to upgrade my whole system with a GeForce 7800x, my current one is a 4800 so is kinda outdated, I am also planning on getting the Enermax 600w Noisetaker to make sure that I can supply enough power. I plan to buy the Soundblaster X-Fi Fatality FPS a

nd as such will be connecting my surround sound to it. Overall this upgrades gonna cost about £1597. I may upgrade my Hard Drive by 200Gb as i have a free port for it. £70 for it isn't bad.

 

My computer needs a major overhaul. That is why i am planning on getting a new motherboard as well. Athlon FX-57 processor and the A8N-SLI board itself.

 

My wallet's gonna be empty for quite a while

Well I just bought a 80 GB Ex Hard drive so I can play more games now Getting Civ 4 tomorrow and putting all my media into this hard drive.
