TSKNF Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 Some things that have been bugging me.Do you think the imperials are going to get their own version of the old Republic gunship? As the imperial answer to the airspeeder (well, sort of. It would probably be much more expensive, with heavier weapons and the ability to carry troops. Plus it would also probably be slower.)Also, do you think we're goin got see the rebel v-wing airspeeder? Not the v-wing fighters from ROTS, the v-wing airspeeders from the EU. Yes, confusing, a little slip-up methinks. Finally, did anyone else notice those rebel air-ships in the Trailer? In the shot with the force-field? Others say they were rebel transports, but they didn't look that way to me. p.s. I won't be making any posts for a few days since I will be on holiday. Darkmark Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 For the gunship probably not. It strikes me there isn't going to be an imperial equivilent to the airspeeders. I don't know quite why. I wouldn't mind seeing them though. As with any EU material there's always a chance it will get in, but there is just too much EU stuff to have it all. For this we really have to wait and see. I'll look again, but they looked like normal transports in my opinion. Then again, I'm no expert on rebel spacecraft. Have a good holiday. Swiftdraw Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 V-wings I don't think will be in for one fact, they don't have tow cables. The snowspeeders in the screen and trailers are always shown wrapping up AT-ATs and not much else (except I think a couple were just flying around.) Without that AT-AT busting capability, I doubt the V-wing speeder will be in. And those look like transports to me... I'm now teh lurker.http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/bg/type/2/swiftdraw.png
Foshjedi2004 Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 They are Gallofree Medium Transports!! And I doubt that an Imperial Gunship will be in there maybe the Carrack Cruiser though. The V-wing sucks so will not be in there. http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa197/knivesdamaster/tags/sith_omguserbar_member.jpg
plokoon9619 Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 the Imp gunship is the Y-8 Raptor transport. Its in the game already.
Foshjedi2004 Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 Show me a screen of it. All I have seen so far is the Landing craft, ATAT barge and the Lambda Shuttle. http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa197/knivesdamaster/tags/sith_omguserbar_member.jpg
Stellar_Magic Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 They're going to put the Raptor in? Thats a Zsinj craft not true imp... plokoon9619 Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 Not the fighter lol the transport. the Sentinal Class shuttle. It looks like lambda but it aint. You can see it in the little flash at the top of the website.
Stellar_Magic Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 Huh? The Y-8 Raptor is an Assault Transport which looks very different from the Sentinel class Landing Craft. What are you talking about? Foshjedi2004 Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 I was getting confused too Stellar. The Y-8 looks like this:http://www.swrebellion.com/hosted/cain/Previews/98.JPGLanding Craft:http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b191/Foshjedi2004/Landing.jpg http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa197/knivesdamaster/tags/sith_omguserbar_member.jpg
plokoon9619 Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 that landing craft has a name, its called Sentinal Class shuttle.
Foshjedi2004 Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 SORRY!!! Anyway. I hope that there will be other vessels not yet seen. http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa197/knivesdamaster/tags/sith_omguserbar_member.jpg
Overkill Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 I really hope there's more than one usable aircraft for grounds assualts. I will be annoyed if I have to build AT-AA's just for taking out airspeeders or airstrikes. Nevets Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 I was just going to make a thread on the republic gunship but decided to make sure if there were any other, anyway what I think: I think there is a very good chance the republic gunship will be in game (I know I say everything will be in game, but I am very optimistic about this game). The gunship was a very effective weapon in the clone wars and was still in the hands of the imperials as they started their galactic conquests. I believe this ship would have played an important role to the Empire as it started invasions of planets (it serves as a troop transport, ground assault, air to air attack, landcraft transport) so I highly doubt it would have ended production on such a powerful machine. But why didn't the Empire use it in the OT? well for one the Lucas created it for the prequels. Also the only battle I can think of where it would have been useful would have been Hoth and I'm sure continuity will write some reason why it was not used there. Honestly I would not be surprised if Lucas added one into the original trilogy's "final edition" as for the rebel v-wing, we may get one, but it will probably fall under a different name to avoid confusion.
Dorkthehunter Posted September 16, 2005 Posted September 16, 2005 I remember V-Wings as the ships in Rogue Squadron with cluster missles! Foshjedi2004 Posted September 17, 2005 Posted September 17, 2005 Hmm I thought the Y-8 Raptor was a flatter ship than the ship seen so far. http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa197/knivesdamaster/tags/sith_omguserbar_member.jpg
Dorkthehunter Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 Hmm I thought the Y-8 Raptor was a flatter ship than the ship seen so far. According to that one site: The Y-4 Military Transport was first introduced to the Galactic Empire shortly before the treacherous Incom Corporation was seized by order of the Emperor. The traitors at Incom designed the craft to be a military grade troop transport. And as a result they designed the transport to move hard and hit quickly. While the transport features good performance qualities and is a sturdy design, it was not widely accepted in the Imperial Navy due to it being an Incom product. Not surprisingly the Rebels also make use of the Y-4 Transport. A civilian model of the Y-4 also exists. Although the civilian model lacks weaponry and armour plating, they are usually forced to arm themselves against pirates and other hazards plying the space lanes. While they feature less powerful engines than the military model, they are reliable for courier duty. Its main mission is to ferry troops and supplies between starships. Troops and vehicles can disembark in seconds from the transport due to its flank folding assault ramps. This three engine transport features swing wing S-Foil capability for emergency braking and increased manoeuvrability. A one metre thick heat shield and extra layers of spray-on ablative coating serve to increase the Y-4's heat resistance. The retractable swing wings are located along either side of the craft, just below its dorsal surface and just above its ramps. This allows the Y-4 to land on a planet quickly and quietly. And on top of that the Y-4 possesses a modest weapons platform for infantry support purposes. Located above its forward weapons is the bridge, from which the pilot, chief gunnery officer and the astromech droid sit (the second gunnery officer sits in the turret). And located on its dorsal section, right behind the bridge is its swing wing S-Foil driver. Y-4Transportb.jpg P.S. Does anyone like my signature? Nevets Posted October 15, 2005 Posted October 15, 2005 the gunship looks like it has more a shot now considering the timeline. but the v-wing is out.

Honestly I would not be surprised if Lucas added one into the original trilogy's "final edition" as for the rebel v-wing, we may get one, but it will probably fall under a different name to avoid confusion. Just to take a guess at the reason I think it simply became outdated. Improvements made the weapons strength lesser compared to the enemy. Though I would venture a guess that it was still used by some fleets during the OT. Sorta like the AT-PT
AT-AP Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 The reason it wasn't seen in the OT (besides not being designed yet IRL) was that:a) Sandtroopers already used Sentinel-class drop ships on Tatooine. b) Hoth had an energy shield around the Echo Base. Only walkers and crawlers can get through those and still function. Anything that doesn't touch the ground, would short-circuit and fall down after passing. The T-47's were fine due to already being inside the shield's perimeter, therefore the Alliance had aircover while the Empire did not. (Though smaller repulsorcraft could have been carried inside AT-ATs, if the Empire had wanted it.c) The Forest-moon of Endor had lots of trees. Even speederbikes had trouble navigating through them, and bigger walkers like the AT-AT could only patrol cleared areas. Now, the only OT-source with LAATs in it, is the upcoming Battlefront II, but that's only the Rebel side. If they are considered obsolete by the Empire, remains to be seen... http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a242/CptK/StarCruiser.jpg

AT-AP Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 Sure it does, the Alliance has a history of stealing old or obsolete units from the Empire. A5 and A6 Juggernauts, ISP speeders, AT-PT walkers, Nebulon-B frigates and other ship-types. Stealing LAAT gunships fits in with their history. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a242/CptK/StarCruiser.jpg
