Cain Posted July 9, 2005 Posted July 9, 2005 And how we will be able to do that ?! - The Trivium Organization - Community Manager -- Petroglyph Fan Forums - CoAdmin & Human Resources Manager -
Foshjedi2004 Posted July 9, 2005 Posted July 9, 2005 When's Petro up and Running. Talk to Mike and see exactly how everything could pan out. http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa197/knivesdamaster/tags/sith_omguserbar_member.jpg
Cain Posted July 10, 2005 Author Posted July 10, 2005 Loll that will be Ismael - I never emailed Mike and I transmit what I have true Ismael ... also I don't think Mike will have anything to do with forums - that will be Tedd's job. He already told us that then he will try to move this forums on theyr server - but it will be a difficult transfer do to tehnical difficulties that may be unknown. ... as for the affiliations - hmmm .... let the other EAW sites affiliate to us. - The Trivium Organization - Community Manager -- Petroglyph Fan Forums - CoAdmin & Human Resources Manager -

Juggernaut1985 Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 Why not just get Invision Power Board forums when its transfered, people will have to re-register but IPB isn't as full of holes as phpBB is. It also allows more control.
Zerogravity Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 i agree, invision is really good. but i thought we were moving to petroglyph after EAW is released :\ http://home.earthlink.net/~bldumka/AFACC.gifhttp://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/os/type/2/evoelementz.png
Juggernaut1985 Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 I was just throwing out the suggestion that we use IPB after the move instead of phpBB.
Cain Posted October 12, 2005 Author Posted October 12, 2005 To be able to move the forum to petro we will neeed a boot program to save it all - page by page Or let's pray that Tedd will be able to do some magic - on this darn forum I can't backup. - The Trivium Organization - Community Manager -- Petroglyph Fan Forums - CoAdmin & Human Resources Manager -
Darkmark Posted October 12, 2005 Posted October 12, 2005 Since you guys are talking about forums, I'm currently looking for a free forum to set up for the machinima project I lead. I just need something a bit better than the current one and wondered if you guys had any ideas which would be the best. phpBB seems cool for what I generally need, but if there's a better one to use then I'd be grateful if you could let me know. I had a look around, but I'm sure you guys have much better cumulative expecience of forums than I do, so any ideas would be useful. Juggernaut1985 Posted October 12, 2005 Posted October 12, 2005 Google Invision Power Board and get the 1.3.1 Final version. the 2.0 version is a payed liscense thing, the 1.3.1 is free. Its so much better than phpBB.
Darkmark Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 I expected that from the earlier posts, so I had a look at them. To be honest I couldn't see too much of a difference. However, not being a mod on their site probably gives me less to see on the technical side of things. Anyway thanks, I'll look into it in a bit more depth if it really is so much better. EDIT: It took me ages to find a version of 1.3.1, and even when I did, I also found out that it runs under the 2.0... whatever licence, so it's illegal for me to use without purchasing one. 1.3.0 is free, but it also seems like that had some major problems/exploits. Juggernaut1985 Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 No, 1.3.1 is very safe. 2.0 just added a bunch of features. IPB also allows more customization than phpBB.
Darkmark Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 I'm a little suspicious of 1.3.1 because of the legal ramifications. I know it was free while introduced, but now they have the pay system for the 2.0 and more update versions. From what I can tell, it covers 1.3.1 making it no longer legal to use without the licence you'd purchase with 2.0 etc. I don't want my webspace to revoke the space since to use 1.3.1 without a licence is considered illegal. I think... Having said that, it does look much better phpBB (No offense intended. These forums are great, honest )... I guess I'll have to see what the others in the group have to say about it. I'll go for one of the two I'm sure, they seeem to be the leading groups as far as free forums are concerned. Thanks for your help. Darkmark Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 Ok, that helps. It obviously isn't considered a serious legal threat. Thanks for all the help. It really all does assist me making a decision. Foshjedi2004 Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 Bit off Topic eh guys?? I think that we should affiliate ourselves with everyone in the Eaw Community. We are all working for the same goal! http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa197/knivesdamaster/tags/sith_omguserbar_member.jpg
Juggernaut1985 Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 In that case can I put a link to here on my site under the affiliates?
Foshjedi2004 Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 Well you should be able to. PFF need a banner or something like the other forums and Websites do. http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa197/knivesdamaster/tags/sith_omguserbar_member.jpg
