Baneblades are the Ultimate Imperial Tanks. They have the Volcano Cannon. A destructor cannon. Various Lascannons and Heavy bolters and are general fortresses with 3ft thick armor at the weakest point.

I have to get me one of those...

It'll be interesting to see how the Imperial guard actually play, what with them being the underdogs in terms of infantry units. They'll be the only real defensive side, and usually in RTS', those who show no aggression get beaten back quickly. Like I say, it'll be interesting to see how they've balanced it, and how they play as a side with their tanks and long range artillery.

The Imp. Guard are not and i stress this, NOT a defensive side. Their weapons are more suited for assault and Bombardment rather than defense.

I always got the impression that in terms of board game story were more of a suicidal kind of side. Fight for the emperor until the last man standing. But everything I heard about the DOW expansion suggested they were a defensive side, with turrets etc that work as bunkers, and relying on the bonuses of terrain and general location.

Depends which planet the guard came from. The Catachans Are insane. The Caridans are massive defenders of the Eye of Terror and the region around that sector. The Desert Tallarns use lots of cavalry. It really does depend on what you want. Then there's the Armageddon Steel Legion and thats the onw with one whole pisspot of Baneblades, Chimeras, Baslisks and Leman Russ tanks.

Screens seem to suggest the imp gaurd in game are Caridans. I think, for the video game, the imp gaurd are defensive and only strike out with heavy armor and masses of troops. Table top game-wise, they're more long range assault, relying on heavy artillery and armor to get the mission done and use the infantry basiclly as meat shields and disractions.

Then if they have weak infintry and strong tanks, it stands to reason that they will have a larger vehical cap then the other sides and races. I'd bet it's something like 15 infantry, and 25 vechicals. That'd be kinda fun. Plus with a steady supply of workers to repair tanks, which will repair 4x quicker. If the bladsbane has lot's of heavy bolters, why would u need infantry ;) I can't wait to see what can be done with them 8)

The exspansion finally came out Wednsday here in the States... Anyone get it? How is it?

I have my copy all paid for, but unfortantly this small town hell-hole seems to be an after-thought for the distribution depatment of Sam Goodies (the only store that sells decent games). It is now Friday and Winter Assault, which I said came out on Wednsday, won't be here untill next Tuesday, maybe. My bet is for Thursday... [/i]

I spotted it in a shop today. I held it in my grasp...but monetary limits forced me to put down the hammer of the Emperor.

Any, *SPOILERS* I found out that in the game you'll find out the next x-pack will feature the necrons (they make a cameo appearance like the Imp.guard did in the original game)

I am however split between this, Blitzkrieg 2, AOE3, Farenheit (Indigo prophecy to you Yanks and Canadians) and maybe getting an MMO.

Mmmmm.... Necron.... I was hoping the Tyranids would get in, but Relic said they couldn't do the 'nids "right" with the current game engine. Also THQ mentioned they aren't dropping this lisnce anytime soon, so I'm guessing the the next Warhammer 40k RTS will have the 'nids in it. But I can accept Necron... The undead terminators as it were... So Necron units were in the game right? Or was it just thier buildings and stuff? If they had units modeled, it would speed up the release of a Necron mod.

Anyone get to take the Baneblade for a spin yet? And how does the fortification ability for the Imp Gaurd work?

The Blade is absolutely ungodly. I ran it up to a squad of enemy infantry and heres the story.

Normally from a tank round the guys will be tossed out and then get back up and still fight. the Baneblade fired and they never got back up.

What ware really fun are squads of Sentinels(like 3) running and gunning down everyhthing with Basilisk fire support with Earthshaker Rounds.

Played it, and OH YEAH BABY does it make the game rock. I'm not too sure about the IG, thy seem a little too weak enough in the infantry department, but aside from that excellent. Although I play chaos anyway, and I'm loving the Khorne Bezerker (being a heavy infantry unit, it makes a great unit when in a combined force with Possesed marines)

Yes, the Imp Guards infantry suck. Thats why you hole up in your buildings untill you get some heavy armor out...

Unfortunantly, for soem reason the sentinal is placed about mid-way up the tech tree, so bad troops or hopelessly holed into your base, the imps have a bad time at the start. So I go chaos instead, although if they'd made the imp squads larger....
