A friend of mine once tried but it only worked half way - normal gameplay was ok but he didn't see the battle sequences. Of course that made playing impossible. Verdex Posted January 11, 2007 Author Share Posted January 11, 2007 No. UC, I am still a Windows user tired of being forced to buy Vista for no other reason than because everybody else uses it - so I'd like to get away from MS once and for all. I found alternatives for almost all the programs I need in my daily life - if I had a way of playing Rebellion on such a machine the change would be perfect Asteroids do not concern me... Grand_Admiral_Thrawn Posted January 11, 2007 Share Posted January 11, 2007 There are some Linux based Windows emulators that are capable of simulating DirectX, but they tend to be glitchy. Linux tends to focus on OpenGL which, sadly, is on it's way out. Most Linux distros aren't intended for gaming, so don't expect an improvement in this any time soon. In other words... it might be impossible. History is on the move, Captain. Those who cannot keep up with it will be left behind, to watch from a distance. And there's also Cedega (http://www.transgaming.com/index.php?module=ContentExpress&file=index&func=display&ceid=29), which emulates even directx9 and works guite well, but is not free. Also some commercial games have their native linux versions (neverwinter nights, unreal tournaments, dooms, quakes and maybe others) and some of these games run even faster than on windows platforms .
