Mitth_raw_nuruodo Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 Double check to make sure the card is plugged into the motherboard all the way. I had that problem over spring break when trying to connect my grandmother's computer to the internet. Her modem card had come out of its PCI slot. Other than that I don't know what to tell you. Are these USB ports on a separate card or integrated with the motherboard? Check all wiring connections for proper "seating". Do they register on the System Info as existing? BTW, what OS are you running, XP, Linux, Winders (that's Texan drawl for MS Windows)? Do you have any diagnostic programs you can run? I'm assuming you have non-USB keyboard/mouse and that you can run the PC as you normally would (sans USB), correct assumption on my part? That's all I can think of for now, not that it was much help (but maybe a fresh set of "ideas" might make you think of something ). Good Luck and keep us informed! Mad78 Posted April 5, 2006 Author Posted April 5, 2006 I run Windows XP. The USB ports are on the Motherboard. When i check in the Material window of Windows is locates a Usb controller. When i check it say that they work fine but when ever i plug a usb key or usb mouse in none of them work. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Palpycard.gifhttp://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Spamkinguserbarcopy.jpgCLICK HERE IT IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!Click here is you like Trance
DarthTofu Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 Er, call me a fool for asking you this, but did you instal virus protection software before getting on the internet? 12/14/07Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away
DarthTex Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 The only thing I can think of is somehow the USB ports are not providing (electrical) power to the devices. Is there maybe a bad connection between the power supply and the motherboard? (USB) Devices that have high power requirements usually come with their own power supplies. Is there any way to check on or re-install drivers for the USB controller? Finally, after years of hard work I am the Supreme Sith Warlord! Muwhahahaha!! What?? Mad78 Posted April 5, 2006 Author Posted April 5, 2006 I don't really know. Does anyone have a link? http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Palpycard.gifhttp://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Spamkinguserbarcopy.jpgCLICK HERE IT IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!Click here is you like Trance
DarthTex Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 Have you gone to Microsoft.com and queried their knowledge base? Otherwise in the search bar type "USB problems" and see where that leads you Finally, after years of hard work I am the Supreme Sith Warlord! Muwhahahaha!! What?? Guest Scathane Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 You could also try reinstalling your drivers...

DarthTex Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 (*** shakes head in disgust, mumbling ***) ignorant whelp The knowledge base is a database of problems and lists of suggested fixes. There are NO people interactively involved And you are correct, most tech support (especially over the phone) is horrible Finally, after years of hard work I am the Supreme Sith Warlord! Mad78 Posted April 5, 2006 Author Posted April 5, 2006 After fiddling about with drivers for a few hours i have finally managed to get 4 out of 6 USB ports to work. Thanks for your help guys. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Palpycard.gifhttp://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Spamkinguserbarcopy.jpgCLICK HERE IT IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!Click here is you like Trance
Master_Xan Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 You have six USB ports? Wow, I'm a little jealous. Anyways, all six of them are integrated with the motherboard? By that I mean no cards or wires at all? I've never seen so many integrated before (though it wouldn't surprise me if they finally started getting smart and did that). I've got two on the back, two on the front... the front two for me require wires. When I initially got the case and put my components in, I discovered the wires were hooked up incorrectly. If after doing drivers and the Microsoft knowledge base you still couldn't get two of them working, check again for any wires (especially if the two that don't work are on the front). Tech support everywhere doesn't stink. Alltel Wireless tech support is pretty good... at least, through the retail phone number they give us employees. Mad78 Posted April 6, 2006 Author Posted April 6, 2006 There are four on a mother board. But with the mother board came this litle device that if you plug it on gives you the status of the motherboard (with 4 little diodes) on the device are two extra usb ports. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Palpycard.gifhttp://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Spamkinguserbarcopy.jpgCLICK HERE IT IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!Click here is you like Trance
Master_Xan Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 Are those the two that don't work, or is it two of the others? If those two don't work, you might check the tech support for whomever manufactures the diagnostic-card-thingy. Star Wars: Rebellion, A Field Manual"O be wise, what can I say more?"
