Eagle Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Nice! Of course when I first played Mech Warrior, it was on terrain hex paper with cardboard cutouts on plastic bases. You got a mech sheet with weapons, ammo loads and armor, plus hit and damage tables. You needed a couple of d6's to play. Watch that heat buildup!! Ahh, the good ol' days of "lock-n-load"! Ohh yeah! That really sounds cool! I love tabletops! Who cares at all?!

Krytos Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 Just bloody weird ---------- Sweet.... Battletech *disolves into geekiness* Another battletech fan! Woo! Long live the Dragon united under the banner of the Star League driving the clans into the dust Nice! Ditto But don't you mean Battletech? Mechwarrior was the RPG version of BT, where you'd build up characters, well at least the 3rd edition is I've only actually finished a handful of board games of BT ... yeah, something always came up But I had some fun, and some ridiculously unlucky half games - like when my Hunchback in my only lance got a critical hit on it's leg and couldn't limp into range with its AC20 before being out flanked and picked apart by a 20 ton Spider!Or my favourite - my Annihilator vs. a King Crab. I fire all four AC-10s - all miss. My brother fires a single AC-20 at max range, needing to roll a ridiculous number to get it ... and does! Hits untouched armour and still gets a engine crit taking out my only 100 tonner in one bloody shot!!! That sucked. And led to the rest of my 'mechs being totalled ... dual AC-20s hurt like hell. But I got in one nice rear attack with my Jenner's last alpha strike, blasting through the rear armour and hitting ammo making a nice glowing fireball out of the right torso of the 100 tonner. The Jenner lasted two more rounds before being put down. These days I use Megamek ... and by use I mean I downloaded it and started a game or two I tried a few games of Inner Sphere vs. Clanners and didn't last long. At least in one game my luck was a little better, even though I lost I took down a lot of clanners - with some lucky shots like my Sunder head capping a thor with a Gauss Rifle at max range (first shot of the game as well!), and my Hatamato-Chi that was lying prone for half the game being left alone enough to put a PPC through the back of scout 'mech (thankyou XL engines and your extra crits in the side torso) and then knocking over a Loki (Then the two 'mechs then played "drunk stand up" for the rest of their lives. Both eventually got up and fell over enough to destroy their 'mechs ).There was also a fairer match - where it was a mixture of clan and innersphere of equal BV, where I ended up winning with only one 'mech lost. I basically played dirty by setting up the maps with my units near a big hill, then planted a Viking on the top (70 artimese enhanced LRMs) surrounded by my 'mechs in a surrounding valley, who were out to the medium range of the Viking. It started off great, with constant missile onslaughts butchering my opponent, and when they tried closing in my other units gave them "crunch time".But a 'quick' flank by a Hauptmann (double blind rules) made me almost loose my missile boat (who'd taken a few ER PPCs already) and did take out a clan heavy 'mech of mine, the only loss I suffered. Oh, and I still have a fair share of minitures - even though I don't use them, they're just cool! 16 or so 'mechs, about 3 vehicles and a butt load of battlearmour (8 Kanuzuki, 16 Kage, 24 Raiden and 24 Longinus) ... I should paint them some day too http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://img152.imageshack.us/img152/1333/3dartistbanneranimationws1.gifhttp://img154.imageshack.us/img154/4026/rebellionbannerdi2.gif
Mad78 Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 These games sound slightly complicated. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Palpycard.gifhttp://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Spamkinguserbarcopy.jpgCLICK HERE IT IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!Click here is you like Trance
DarthTex Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 But don't you mean Battletech? Mechwarrior was the RPG version of BT, where you'd build up characters, well at least the 3rd edition is You are absolutely correct Krytos, Battletech was the game. Now I'm going to have to dig through the attic looking for all of my Battletech stuff. The best game I remember playing is having my mech (I don't remember the names of most of them) with 2 PPC's standing in a shallow lake (great for heat dissipation), and covered by an Archer with long range missiles on a nearby hill. My friend was trying to force me out into the open with a pair of Thunderbolts. The Archer's long range missiles scored first doing minimal damage, but it was a constant barrage as the Thunderbolts were trying to move to their optimal range. My mech with the PPC's opened up doing sore good damage, but I was starting to get pummeled myself. Then I got a lucky head shot and took out one of the Thunderbolts; my friend was pissed. He retreated and I spent the rest of the game chasing him down. Because of terrain, it was difficult to keep the 2-to-1 advantage on him. I eventually won, but lost my PPC mech. Basically I sacrificed it to do as much damage as possible so the Archer could then take it out. Even then it was still tough (he kept trying to run away) These games sound slightly complicated. Not really, they have some basic rules and such, but once you play a game or two it becomes second nature Finally, after years of hard work I am the Supreme Sith Warlord! Muwhahahaha!! What?? What do you mean "there's only two of us"?
Darth_Rob Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 I always wanted to get into miniatures gaming. I think Warhammer is the big one. Theres one called Heroscape. I'm contemplating about getting. I think it's for beginners, and it seems to be geared more towards younger gamers, but it still looks pretty cool. Apparently from what I read, its loosely based around the Norse religion, and I think the actual game is battling during Ragnorak (one of the coolest things in any ancient religion, in my opinion). DarthTex Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 I always wanted to get into miniatures gaming ...Well, here's your chance Rob: Iron Wind Metals Online!. These guys used to be the Ral Partha minitures back in the 80's. They have lots of new, and some old stuff. Or check around for a local gaming shop to see what they have available. I don't think I have any BattleTech miniatures, but I have a lot of Ral Partha fantasy characters/monsters It definitely helps if you have someone or a group to play with Finally, after years of hard work I am the Supreme Sith Warlord! Muwhahahaha!! What?? What do you mean "there's only two of us"?
tacoJoemeru Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 You'd be wrong there Tex! They've got quiet a few series of Battletech mini's, I'd link some..... But im too lazy... *pets mini Atlas and Vulture* "The Chimaera is at your command, Admiral." —Captain Gilad Pellaeon
Eagle Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 Im totally into W40K. Allthough we dont play it very often, we still collect, assemble and paint models. I was lucky to get this rare tank-miniature by ebay. When I started playing about ten years ago it was just out of production. That game rob mentioned looks pretty cool and I guess it may very good for beginners and those who dont like to paint models. Who cares at all?!
DarthTofu Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 The warhammer sketches on CAD No, they are not all like these first few. I never really tried any table-top gaming beyond Risk, truth be told... Edit: Greetings Teams: In response to numerous requests from teams and mentors, FIRST and five of our partners have special offers for the 2007 FRC season. Since the last email blast was sent announcing this exciting development, two more suppliers have joined the early release program. Please read on and follow the links for more information. Since Autodesk's sponsorship began in 1992, Autodesk has contributed approximately $72 million in software donations for FIRST Robotics team use. As the numbers of teams have increased throughout the years, their software donation has grown significantly. Autodesk needed to find a way to distribute the software to the teams in a more scalable model that utilized their available resources and budget. They are excited to offer electronic software downloads starting this FIRST season. These downloads will allow Autodesk to get the software out to the teams faster and more efficiently. This year, they are donating Autodesk ® Inventor 11 Professional and the newly released Autodesk® 3ds Max 9 to teams. Each team will be able to download up to 10 single seats of Autodesk® Inventor 11 Professional and 5 single seats of Autodesk® 3ds Max 9. The newly developed website will launch in mid-November and will host these downloads. Stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks! I'm gonna get a free copy of one of those if it kills me! It helps that our team only has thirteen members... And hard copies of an older version of both pieces of software 12/14/07Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away
Krytos Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 I give you - Samurai Stormtrooper! @Tex: Hmm, well I'm guessing you've got the 4th Edition starter pack (hence the cardboard mechs - did you know the 3rd edition had at least plastic sculptures! Damn annoying), and everything is Level 1 tech - so it was either a Banshee, War Hammer or Thug. EDIT: Erm, stratch that. I just looked at the box set ... and there's no Thug or Warhammer. So it's either a Banshee or an Awesome.EDIT2: K, just read the starter books weapon's load out. I forgot what it was like back in Level 1 tech, very limited weapons ... hmm, not sure which is better the simplisity and idea of a handful of weapons on the 'mech or the level 2s advanced rules and a lot more weapons ...Anywho, it had to be an Awesome - which has 3 PPC, a small laser and 28 heatsinks. Nice 'mech @Tofu: Get me Max 9!!!!!! Erm... yes I can dream http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://img152.imageshack.us/img152/1333/3dartistbanneranimationws1.gifhttp://img154.imageshack.us/img154/4026/rebellionbannerdi2.gif
DarthTofu Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 If I can secure a copy, I will.... Unfortunately a good five or six of the other team members carry laptops and will use the software productively... I'll probably just wind up getting inventor, but oh well. That's what illegle copies of educational versions of software are for. @The authorities: It's a joke... I swear... 12/14/07Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away

DarthTofu Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 I just want to point out that you already posted that a while back, Mitth... Unfortunately it's still rather accurate, but on a positive note, it is, as a result, funny. And women still haven't figured out that guys don't take subtle hints. Apparently telling them that outright doesn't work, in fact- they take offense to that, saying, "Well you're clearly not a cross-section of all guys!" ... They took a lot of offense to, "Well you clearly aren't a cross section of all women, else they would have died of ignorance." ... The scars left behind will eventually fade...
