I'm not a particular fan of most horrors, especially those in the ranks Scream or even the new movie Hostel.

I prefer the horrors that are far more psychological - such as Se7en and perhaps Saw (have it on DVD, just havn't watched it yet) which I've heard is more in that realm.

Have you seen Blair Witch? Films who suggest a menace are always better than does who show it.

Unfortunately yes. That was one of the worst movies I've ever seen, so long winded and boring. The ending was alright, though could have been better again - infact, shorten the movie to half an hour or even less and it would have been half deceant.

Agreed. The more it went on the more I actually couldn't wait for the young film makers to meet their demise...

If you thought the first one was bad, then consider yourselves lucky that you didnt see the second one. Unfortunatly, I was made to watch both, and both sucked hairy moose toes.

Now there is a movie coming out soon, that I saw a trailer for a few months back. I think it was either written or produced by Quinten Tatintino (one of my favs). Basicly, the ploy appears to be an underground "club" where people can go in and pay huge amounts of money for the oppurtunity to torture other people who are held captive there. That should be a decent horror flick.

Your feeble skills are no match for the power of the Dark Side!

You're thinking of Hostile, which is directed by Quinten Tarentino. That movie looks like it relys on violance more than anything, as the movies Saw and Saw 2 did in my opinion, even if Inever saw them. That's the issue- you have to have something scary, yet explicable which could really happen with a creepy looking person and many opportunities for people to die, slowly killing off less important characters with the odd developed character thrown in. Most horror movies now-days have the clear-cut hero and the violantly murdered NHP (Non-Hero-People), thus a movie that scares you based on the huge amounts of meat and blood but which really just isn't that good without the special effects.

Sadly that is very true.

I still think The Blair Witch project was a great horror movie. The ending...

8O ZOMG! 8O

I just read about Night Watch (NOCHNOI DOZOR) a few weeks ago. I can't believe I didn't see any commercials for this movie! Looks good.

I must agree. Hardly even scary. I watched it a few days ago and spent the rest of the day wondering why everybody had made such a fuss about the film.

I think because it was meant to have really happened. Of course, I'm pretty sure that it turned out to be fake

It's a shame the horror, or any movie genre, can get reduced to nothing more than gore

Another thing I'm sick and tired of in movies - particularily when there's only the single hero character that survives even though everyone else gets killed (Aliens Vs. Predators comes to mind - but that's hardly a horror in my books)

I dunno, "Hills Have Eyes" looks kinda creepy... Though the people would have to be very stupid to remain in their house during a nuclear explosion that they knew was coming... I'm personally waiting for "Rip Cage" to come out... Pretty much anything VInchenzo Natali has touched must be golden...

I don't know if it's a remake or not Mad.

@Tofu: Keep in mind at the beginning of the nuke testing people didn't know that nuclear radiation was as harmful as it is. That and the fact that people are stupid makes the movie semi-plausible.

No, he was thinking of Hostel, and it was written and directed by Eli Roth...

No, it was neither written nor produced by Quentin Tarantino but, as mentioned above, by Eli Roth... Tarantino has just lent his name to it, thereby making part of the category Quentin Tarantino presents... He does this to draw the public's attention to more unconventional movies, which they probably otherwise wouldn't go to see. Another example of QT presents, is the movie Hero...

Is this a remake. i remember seing a dvd called like that at the local store.
Yes, The Hills have Eyes is a remake of Wes Craven's 1977 original.

And reading the dictionary? I mean, I got over my brief grammar stint- why do you hang on to the typo correction?
