That's right, I want to learn to mod... And you're all going to teach me in terms that I can understand, or else I'll look up where you live on the SWrebellion members around the world map and kill everyone in your general area...

Anyway, specifically I'm looking to learn to mod the Battle for Middle Earth II demo. I want to try to learn how to crack it like some fine fellows did to Empire at War so that more options are enabled, such as the ability to play as the elves or Mordor, etc.

Also, if I could add an effing health bar to my units that would be appreciated- I hate not knowing what sort of shape they're in! Anyway, yes, I am asking for help from people who now how to mod to tell me how to do this sort of thing- for instance, if I should download some program or just alter some files... Or learn programming languages...

Modding games is dependant on the game. Some games are a lot easier to mod than other. Command and Conquer games, for instance, were easy because they were data driven, and stored the data in .INI files that were simple to edit.

A game, such as Rebellion prior to the editors released for it, would have been very hard to edit.

. . . anywho, like Mad said - you'll need to go to BfME II to see how to edit it.

Oh... Darn, I was hoping to do this like that simple cheat for XwA where you change the list of flyable ships :( So far I haven't managed to find any mods- the google search always finds 'em in somebody's sig rather than their post...

I never liked flying the SSD in XWA. Too hard to target stuff. :D

YOU CAN!?!

If you really can't find anything Tofu try deducing it yourself.

Go in to the game's folder and look how its organisied (and maybe post it since i don't have the demo).

I put up a link to where you can download... And yes, it is very possible to pilot any and all capital ships- you simply go into the ships folder and change everything over to flyable in skirmish mode... I think I'll back up a copy of the game on a CD, and then I'm going to try to hack it...

If you're planning on modding BFME II, I suggest you wait. There was a fantastic mod for C&C Generals called Blitzkreig II which was a TC turning the game in to a WW II RTS. They planned on moving the game over to Battle for Middle Earth, however EA made the game without many of the needed scripts (that, and the build point construction system just wasn't viable for a WW II mod). Things like a turret script for the tanks and whatnot were not included in the game. EA promissed to add them in in a patch, but as EA always does, they sort of pushed the topic aside and never came back to it. I suggest you try and mod EaW and make it so the ground battles don't suck...

History is on the move, Captain. Those who cannot keep up with it will be left behind, to watch from a distance. And those who stand in our way will not watch at all.

 Well, you can always play age of Empires- that was one kick A RTS, one of the first ones to ever be made. Pretty awesome game- only differance is the lack of squads, ragdoll physics, cavalry-that-will-crush-people, heros with powers, palantir powers, and ability to upgrade your fortress... So, actually they have very little in common other than their both being RTSs...

Well then, that's good news- you won't have to wait too long before you can play games like Empire at War (Which I can play in 5 1/2 hours at time of posting) and BFME2... Except that I can play them when they come out! BWAHAHA!:wink:
