sorry i didn't go into a great deal more detail but most people use photoshop for graphics style stuff. i use it myself for some things but my main editor is paint shop pro. they both have features the other doesn't but i've been using psp for about 7 years now so know it inside out pretty much. latest version as a text optoin where you can actually set the outside stroke size of text while leaving the centre of the letters empty. i used this with antialias turned off then selected the inside of the letters and did a flood fill with greatly reduced opacity. the whole image was 6 layers but that included text for all the bits of the gif and the base image.

Try this:

1. Create a new pic with 1 pixel width, 2 pixel height.

2. Color the bottom pixel black and leave the other one white.

3. Click Edit>define pattern

4. Now go to your pic or your letters. Select it and click Layers>Add Layer Mask>Reveal all.

5. Now click Edit>Fill.

6 select Pattern and choose the pic with the black and white pixel.

Cool. But this route didn't work for last time M; and I followed the path with absolute confidence. Your holographic btw is fine, as is mine, sort of, what i'm trying to get to is some form of duplication of the method the author of the woo-yay R2D2 gif I posted above, given the effect combines R2-D2's subtle moving-display effect. :?:

EDIT: Just been alerted to this site: http://www.mickm.com/index.php?section=tutorials&id=117

if you crack the gif open and have a look closely at the different images you'll probably find they have moved the woo yay images around just a slight bit for each frame. probably just a pixel either way but on a fast frame rate it'd make it appear to be jiggling

Great site. The guy does amazing stuff.

It's an incredible site. What's more incredible is when I sent him this:

Lovely and very helpful site! Being using Photoshop for over six years now, and am self-taught.I am trying to achieve the holographic lettering effect the author of the above used. I obviously can do holographic stuff, but there's an element

of the above which is beyond me...

Any ideas?

Thanks,

-Jahled

Which despite being extremely vague, he just replied this:

Hello Jahled,

Any ideas on what element is beyond you? I can't tell by not seeing your

work...

Regards,

MickM,

So i've just mailed him backwith my specific problem and a copy of my last effort posted somewhere above!

Scathe: Besides what M said, you can also save a gif as a psd file if you've got Photoshop and you can see each frame as a differant layer, which is very useful for seeing how people have mashed together their work!

I think that's as good as i'm going to get it, but I like it. I couldn't achieve the subtle movement of the R2-D2 effect, but I reckon this is good! :) So thanks Mad and Olorin for your advise!

Evaders: I've saved this as a psd file so can use any background or forward it to you in a file format of your preference if you think you can use it. We're obviously at luxory to use the layer styles for any particular text you can think of, Warlords, SWR community, or whatever. IF you want it as a png or tif file, you said once you use Paintshop pro, PM me with a forwarding address. :)
