Breaking through shields

Question

Greetings

In playing a Rebel game of SWR, I've found myself inable to break through the full-shields of Coruscant. Both Palpatine and Vader have been captured and pose (seemingly) no threat. I've sent Luke and several variations of characters and Infiltrators, but all has failed. I've tried capturing a general there, rescuing people, destroying every unit or building one a time and have zero progress. In short: I have been inable to sabotage anything in Coru, even without Palpatine. Any idea what is standing in my way?

Thanks so much

What do to when a planet REFUSES to fall to your all-powerful hand:

1) Sab the shields. If that fails, sab the troops THEN get the shields. If you can't take down the shields, it is unlikely you'll be able to capture a general, so try if you want, but don't expect much.

2) When sab fails, run a few espionage missions. You will often find hordes of people you didn't know were there, such as generals, spec ops forces, ect. This gives you a good idea of what you're up against, but doesn't help you take the planet directly.

3) Bombard the planet with a huge fleet. Use Y-Wings, B-Wings, and heavy-duty warships. This will overwhelm the shields, often resulting in heavy troop causalties, with further bombardments taking down the shield generators themselves.

4) If a sufficiently large fleet isn't available, or you're worried about taking losses from laser batteries, and they only have one shield generator you can still assault the planet directly with troops. Get some troopers with high attack ratings, like Wookies, and set a General in orbit with the fleet for best results.

5) If you can't sab them, can bombard them, and can't assault them into submission, there are still options. If you're Imperial, use a Death Star. Since you're not Imperial, you can *try* and do incite uprising missions, but this will almost certainly fail. Your next option, as the Alliance, is to...

6) Leave. You heard me, leave. If possible, do things to other planets in the sector which will impact the offending planet's political alignment in your favor. If not, then do whatever you can to draw them off the planet. If you're blockading the planet, they will never leave, so you should take out troops elsewhere (to make them send troops from the offending planet to others 'in need'). This will make it easier to run sab missions.

7) Your last hope is to destroy the rest of the players economy, making them loose from low maint. points. Or to simply avoid the planet altogether, which is a bad idea.

Hope that helps...

Might help a bit if you told us what was gaurding it, but here's my view on it- they have two or more Gen core I or IIs up. Am I correct on this? I think that your best bet is to go with one of two options: 1 Send Luke or someone else good at sabatoge down to the planet on a mission to take out troops and troops alone. Also, check for traitors. Send only Luke with a specific character or two to test their loyalty- if they are a traitor then you can not win the missions.

Option 2 is the one I personally enjoy. I'll assume that you have a collasal fleet ammased about Coruscant, is that correct? In that case, you probably don't have an admiral. So make one of your characters, such as Solo or Garm bel Iblis, who has a high leadership/battle skill level. Then orbitally bombard military facilities until the gen cores are all gone. Ought to work for you. Oh, yes, and if you don't mind having to worry about sending loyalty on planets down the crapper you can continue to bombard for military facilities until all of the troops down there are gone.

It's probably a combination of vast amounts of forces present, as well as the shiled. I've had similar experiences. I agree with Tofu, though: you can get out of this impasse by bombarding the planet with a massive fleet.

The only thing I can suggest is repeated sabotage missions (what's the situation with troops? Is it 8 stormtroopers? 8 dark troopers?) against the troops with good decoys (high espionage ratings) along with the actual saboteurs (this has happened to me on a few occasions, and I was able to successfully destroy the shield first and then bombard the rest of the troops). Or you can just build some escort carriers with Y-wings.

This happens quiet a bit - there was a discussion about it a while ago here: http://www.swrebellion.com/forums/posts2473-0.html

It discusses the best ways to bombard the planet as well as using spec ops.

I'd suggest if you can't get any sabatage missions to work, build up a large fleet and to get the best bombardment value, use carriers loaded up with Y-Wings (Y-Wings have a bombardment value of 3 - which is more than most warships)

I don't know whether Alexik (nice nick - have any further meaning?) has the same problem, but I've often found it difficult to sabotage the shields in similar situations.

You ppls are no fun at all.. attrition is the best! If the Empire looses thier ability to maintian the gencores/troops, they go away by themselves. =o) Just wipe out the Empire's Maint. with sabotage and by (peacfully if you must) convincing the planets to stop being loyal and go neutral or join your own cause..

Protect one ship over Coruscant with a general and some troops to keep it from getting sabbed. Break up the rest of your fleet and put them over the Imperial planets (I'll assume you've destroyed their fleets). Since no maintenance will be coming in, all of the Imp's stuff will start to blow up. You can also speed this process up by sabbing the stuff on other planets like mines and refineries.

Or build a ton of Y-wings

Count Dooku is the strongest Star Wars character as depicted in the movies. All hail Christopher Lee.

I am pretty sure I haven't seen anyone mention this, but perhaps it has-- and was wanting some discussion on the topic/theories on the AI.

Dividing forces in reference to sending down two groups of authentic&decoy saboteurs, one for X target, one for Y target.

It could be coincidence, but I have noticed a higher success rate in specop missions.

Unless someone can offer substantive proof that AI is able to focus a certain percentage of a defending characters attributes against one mission and then the other, etc.

Just something to consider for the "hard to capture Coruscant" missions.

Around REBEL HQ a perimeter create!

I don't believe the AI has ever attempted to sabotage my fleet when I blockade one of their systems.

Your feeble skills are no match for the power of the Dark Side!
