Starwars games PS2, Xbox, PC. Curious about the difference

Have you seen the controller for the Nintendo Revolution? It looks like a TV remote control! I think it would be so weird playing a platform gaming system with one hand.

The hole idea is to move the hand to make movements. You shall also have a second controller in the other hand.

That's just weird and scary to me. For as long as I've been playing video games (back in the NES days), the controller was always a two-handed controller. Damn slick kids these days with their dance pads and one-handed controllers...the future is weird and scary! That's why I'll stick to the PS3 when it comes out. At least the controller is still two-handed (even though it looks like a boomerang).

You don't need a top of the line gaming computer. That's my point. Plus its easier to upgrade a computer than buying a new console.

I agree. For about 249 to 349 euro, I can order a Dell computer to suit any gaming needs.

 

Tell us the specs; I have a hard time believing a 350 Euro computer will play F.E.A.R. or Silent Hunter III. Those fall under the "any" category.

The recommend specs for those games doesn't look to bad. They are suggesting Pentium 4, 1 GB RAM, 256 MB Radeon 9800 at least. That's about $400 U.S. I could probably buy the parts and build it myself for that much, not including accesories such as monitor, speakers, etc.

Thats 400 dollars, and you'll need to do that again in about 2 years, or 4 if you want to wait. Thats assuming you want to play whatever cutting edge game replaces Silent Hill 4. Even with generous figures, thats more than a gaming console.

Well the 349 euro version at Dell has a 3G Celeron processor and 512 MB RAM (1024 would cost you an extra 120 euro). It doesn't say anything about video memory, so it must be integrated on the mother board. Anyway, this system would probably run F.E.A.R.

 

Furthermore, you don't have to buy everything on or next to a pc: you may already have a good graphics card, sound card, speakers or a nice monitor. As EV said, you can upgrade a pc...

That's not even top specs these days. Mostly you'd need a more powerful video card.. much cheaper than buying the new console and all the accessories it requires.

Not sure about that, Evaders. Consoles always come with a controller. Yes, you have to buy the memory card, so add 20 dollars on to that. Network adaptors and such are built into the system for the PS2, so no problems there.

 

You'll have to upgrade your video card and RAM every 2 years or so if you want to play the best games available. Around here, the best ones cost about 200 for a video card, and around 100-150 for another 500mb or so of RAM (depending on the type of RAM). We'll be generous and say that you find a deal and and get your computer up to date for 250 dollars every 2 years. Thats STILL less than the 320 dollars that you would spend on the system and memory card every 4 years. I know it seems like they come out with one every year, but the reality is that each company releases their next generation console every 4 to 5 years. Even with these stats, you still end up paying more for a gaming PC than a gaming system.

I guess that in the end the real thing is simply a questzion of tastes. Some will prefer upgrading a PC some will prefer the console.
