There are a lot of surprising things about the German-made TV miniseries "The Airbridge," about the U.S.-engineered Berlin Airlift of 1948. But the most surprising thing is that it got made at all.

Filmed and aired at a time when Germany is in the throes of a major anti-Bush, anti-Iraq War and anti-American funk, "The Airbridge" features a lot of American characters in World War II uniforms, all played by Germans speaking German, and is not only pro-American about it, it is downright patriotic.

Fighting is terrible, but not as terrible as losing the will to fight.
