Seeing that the last time I played Tie Fighter most (of todays) uni students were still in elementary school (much less knew how to work a computer), why would I remember a terrible name for a SD? BTW, never did finish all the missions It sounds more like a SD for the X-wing series than Tie Fighter. For Tie Fighter I only remember a Mon Cal cruiser with the name SomethingToDo when you failed the mission (at least you got to shoot up something ... boring).

The Mon Mothma and it's sister ship were built to look like ships of the ISD family. (Either a I or II.) They were slightly more powerful than an ISDII and of course had concealed gravity well projectors.

 

I'm guessing that the builders sacrificed room that would have been ment for troops to install the projectors. They still carry ground troops but maybe only half of what older Empire Era ships would have aboard. After all, the NR has never been as reliant upon ground forces as the Imperials were.

 

I'd probably list the Mon Mothma under an Interdictor grouping of ships along with the Dominator.

 

PS: Sorry I haven't done more work on the name listing yet, I keep getting runover with work and writing. That compiled list above looks prity impressive though.

Sorry about stirring up all this dust plus cobwebs and such, but this is the most recent thread regarding ship names (AND there are several other older ones), but this seemed as good a spot as any to ask my question.

Does anyone know where the list of ship names used by Rebellion is located, and a good way to access it? And I'm talking about the ships the AI controls when you play whatever side. Does anybody have a handy list? I'm guessing that the names are somehow delineated by ship type. What I'm looking to do is find the list of ship names used in the game and edit them to names I would prefer. My curret guess would be to use Resource Hacker, but that's only a guess. I don't remember seeing anything about this subject when others were working on their TC's, and my "search" in the forums fell flat. Also, it would be nice (although at present time, impossible) to just have the game name my ships with the names already buried in the code instead of the Ship-Type-Number name. Any ideas?

There is another game with some really great ship lists... the game is Space Empires IV. There are literally dozens of seperate lists.

 

I'm going to put up a few links tonight/tomorrow for some weird lists, but I'll copy/paste the list(s) that apply to the Empire or Alliance. There are some really good ones for the Empire, and the best part is that each list contains great names for powerful ships (like ISDs) or smaller ships (like Corracks). I'll try and take out duplicates, but I make no promises.

In SEIV, those names actually are used for ship classes (rather then individual ship names). I always liked attaching 'Terminator' to a lowly escort-class ship...

 

"Sir, I'm detecting multiple enemy ships inbound from the Omega Sector. Sensors are picking up... 23 Terminator class ships."

"Alright Lt., looks like we've got a little target practice today. Have the Slider-class Dreadnaughts engage at extreme range, and if any of those Terminators get to fire a shot I'll buy you dinner tonight."

 

You might also notice that I included "Eraser"... that's another name for Mr. Arnold from a movie. But it doesn't have any neat catch phrases recognizable by nearly every living person on the planet.

I changed my mind, rather then setting up a gazillion links, I just linked to the master download. Simply click on the link above, then click on "DNA" towards the bottom of the page to download the entire ship list. There's stuff in there a normal person would never think of, and some pretty cool ones too. The Battletech list is kinda interesting, as is the Generals file and of course the Monty Python file. Here's a quick list of several that apply directly to the Star Wars universe (and therefore worth a look even if you ignore all the others).

 

The two best are SW-Reb and SW-Emp. Also of note is SW-Huttese, SW-Ewok, SW-Gungan, and YuuzhanVong. I also like weapons, UPL, SJ, Silver Skull, Illuminati, mm6beast, and Doppleganger. To name a few.

SW-DarkSide is missing Count Dooku/Darth Tyranus(sp?). That was just something that jumped out at me as I was browsing it. Also SW-Huttese isn't in alphabetical order like the rest of the ones I've looked at thus far. SW-Reb lacks the Mon Mothma. I'll most likely find more as I look at the list a little closer...

Eh, the lists aren't perfect. No big surprise there, considering they weren't made by anybody here. In fact, I don't even know who made the lists.

 

Putting the Huttese list in alphabetical order isn't hard to do. Just copy/paste into another program (say, Excel or Word, or Open Office) and have it reorder them. Copy/paste back into the text file, and presto! I would have done it myself, except I can't upload onto their server, so it wouldn't have made any difference for you guys.
