Its a Massive Multiplayer game that exists in its own little universe. There's about a small galaxy's worth of star systems in the game, thousands of individual planets, tons of different types of ships, and every bit of it is waged in space.

It's fun, you can hunt pirates (Both NPC and Player), be a pirate, a bounty hunter, a miner, a frieghter, a manufacturing guru, lead a corporation or alliance, form gangs...

Basically this is what Star Wars Galaxies should have been (If we ignore completely the ground based part of star wars.)

I've been playing it for a couple days and its got beautiful graphics, and realistic distances between the planets, asteroids, and stars (Which is remedied by FTL propulsion, it be cool if they could stick some relativistic effects in the game).

The download is free, then you pay 12 bucks a month to play... My laundry bill is more then that! Go ahead and try it, just google EVE Online.

There it has just lost its appeal... 12 bucks/months is not much if you are in nthe US... it's a whole lot for folks in underdeveloped countries...

Well, this sounds like an on-line version of Freelancer... well massively on-line version anyway. I had considered this game when I read about it in PC Gamer, but other games seem to have overshadowed it. I might look into it when school is over.

History is on the move, Captain. Those who cannot keep up with it will be left behind, to watch from a distance. And those who stand in our way will not watch at all.

I'm not sure if its Freelancer, but I deffinately remember seeing a game very similar to this with two journel enteries or something, one of a failing buisness that turns a merchant into a pirate, one of the same merchant who works for a giant company, becoming prosperous and hunting down pirates, or something along the lines. Looked like a cool concept. Only issue is that I have no clue how you pay on line companies, or I might try it... :?
