DarthTofu Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 Hurricane Katrina hiting New Orleans means that oil prices will rocket due to a lack of oil and petrolium being released. This leads to some issues: such as this: http://www.wesh.com/news/4921285/detail.html I don't live in Orange County, but I lilve in one of the major counties, and ten miles from my High School. Both my parents leave in the morning, so I may end up telling my children I marched ten miles through scorching heat to go to school. Fun, fun, fun. Anyone else have these issues going on? 12/14/07Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away
Defender_16 Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 I helped my sister move today while we were being rained on by the remnants of the storm. It stopped just after we finished. On the way back the clouds looked like a flotilla of the most beautifullly sculped Mon Cal cruisers. As ususal I did not have my camera with me. Local gas prices jumped more than twenty cents per liter in most places with the refinery closures in the states. Some places just started gouging the prices to see what they could get out of people. (Current average; $1.20 per litre. ) I just saw on the news a few minutes ago that some airlines can't fly because they've run out of fuel.
Thrawn90 Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 I live in sunny New York, the remnants went just West of me, lucky... Sat on the deck in a lounge chair by the pool today with the laptop and a nice glass of Lemonade while getting a tan... Ahh... I don't mean to rub it in anyone's face or anything, but... well, ok, I do j/k
Darth_Rob Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 Gosh! Yesterday morning, gas was at $2.65 or so. As of 6pm last night, it was up to $3.10. I'm afriad to go outside today to see if it went up anymore. Your feeble skills are no match for the power of the Dark Side! Trejiuvanat Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 It has an ever greater effect on global economies, where the oil price is oscilating around the $70 per/barrel, and has even greater effect on countries that do not even have oil... http://www.swrebellion.com/~jahled/Trej/banner.gif
DarthTofu Posted September 2, 2005 Author Posted September 2, 2005 Only good thing good about this is that its one heck of a boon to iraq's economy, meaning that we might be able to pull out of the place soon! By the way, apparently we don't have to walk to the next game for marching band- its a home game! 12/14/07Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away
Krytos Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 This Hurrican is really terrible, I've been out of the loop with it for a while and only now have seen the extent of the damage it has caused. My prayers go out to all those effected by this tragic event and I hope that their lives return to normal soon. The effect on oil prices is also being felt here. Fuels been hovering around $1.20, $1.25 a litre for a while now (because of Iraq, even though oil companies put the price up before America went there) - though it's predicted to go to $1.40 next week and two weeks after that $1.60 I guess this settles my decision about selling my car http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://img152.imageshack.us/img152/1333/3dartistbanneranimationws1.gifhttp://img154.imageshack.us/img154/4026/rebellionbannerdi2.gif
Aenivae_Ikeda Posted September 20, 2005 Posted September 20, 2005 Acquire a motorcylce man. I bought my bike for like $700 and it gets around 70 miles to the gallon. So yeah, theres an economical solution. DarthTofu Posted September 20, 2005 Author Posted September 20, 2005 I gotta remember that... When I eventually get a licence... and a job. 12/14/07Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away
Krytos Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 Well, I'm not much of a motorbike rider and I don't think here's a good area for one anyway - too many accidents and deaths occur with bike riders. And I also like my sports cars It's just there are only so many efficient sports cars out there, and I dont see me buying a Porsche . . . though I have been thinknig about a 924 or 928 which goes for 12 Grand or so, but I'd be completely broke then Anyway, my cars on sale - got one person looking at it who asked almost half what I asked for so no-sale there. But after that's gone, I'll use my *shudder* mum's car which is highly fuel efficient (but it's a people mover with a 1.5letre straight 4, with all it's power and torque in the low end of the revs - not too mention crap breaks, very poor centre of gravity and very soft suspention with a long ride) until I get another one.Letely, I've had my eye on an Audi 90 for around 6G which if it's still around by the tiem I sell the car I'll look into http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://img152.imageshack.us/img152/1333/3dartistbanneranimationws1.gifhttp://img154.imageshack.us/img154/4026/rebellionbannerdi2.gif
DarthTofu Posted September 21, 2005 Author Posted September 21, 2005 I thought you lived in Australia. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the communitites there fairly tight and close together, thus removing the need for long drives, really? Or am I just being an idiot in asking that and its the total opposite? 12/14/07Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away
Krytos Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 I thought you lived in Australia. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the communitites there fairly tight and close together, thus removing the need for long drives, really? Or am I just being an idiot in asking that and its the total opposite? Well, that's what's good about these diverse communities - we can explain what's true and what's not.The images conjurred in your mind, such as shown in the Simpsons and Corcidile Dundee, are of "Outback Australia". This is actually the central region of Australia, which is a very whide spread and very arid with a lot of community towns (with at least one underground).I live in the State of Victoria, which has a city called Melbourne - here's a couple of quick pics: Pic 1, Pic2, Pic 3It's a pretty small city in comparison to a lot of others around the world with a population of 3.5 million. And there are 5 other major cities Sydney, Brisbane, Adelade and Darwin. It's very modern, I think Australia is like the 13th richest country and Melbourne has been voted at least twice the most livable city in the world . . . not entirely sure why I live on the far, outskirts of Melbourne - and hour by train in a suburb called Upwey. Which is smallish - but hardly a town of under a hundred people, let a lone a coupleof thousand.I'm considered by city folk to be a "hick" or living in the sticks. The sticks part is right (and hicks does suit a lot of the pople that live here ), as I live next to a state forrest, my road is dirt (though connects to bitchamen ) and there are trees everywhere. Here a few images of the area I live in: Someone's backyard, Further into the hills I'd take some photos now - but it's night time so there's not much to see I'll try to get some tomorrow or the day afterI occationally get Wallabies in my backyard (which are a smaller species of Kangaroo), lots of birds like Kookaburras, Roseallas, Cockatoos etc. http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://img152.imageshack.us/img152/1333/3dartistbanneranimationws1.gifhttp://img154.imageshack.us/img154/4026/rebellionbannerdi2.gif

Darth_Rob Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 I knew there were city-cities in Australia, but not like that! Damn the Simpsons, ruining my view of the world. DarthTofu Posted September 23, 2005 Author Posted September 23, 2005 Chazwazzles? Damnit, Grif, what'd I tell you about making up imaginary animals! Dang, I didn't know that Australia was so... modern. I juess I am one of those stupid American people. I was picturing everyone who lived there as dressing in a white T sirt and black pants or something- those pics could be from melbourne Florida and I wouldn't be able to tell the differance! Come to think of it, I haven't been to Melbourne in several years... that might be why... 12/14/07Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away

Krytos Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 What the hell are Chazwazzles? What some guy on the Simpsons called a Cain Toad. And they're a plague in Queensland (which is what the Simpson's was referring too).I remember a time when it was comon practice in Queensland to go out with golf clubs and help "resolve" the problem. Now it's animal cruetly . . . well, it was always cruetly. I generally don't condone violence, or animal violence - but these guys are bad news.During the summer, when the toads come out of hybernation, the roads are literally covered with the little things, which become speed humps. http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://img152.imageshack.us/img152/1333/3dartistbanneranimationws1.gifhttp://img154.imageshack.us/img154/4026/rebellionbannerdi2.gif
Paul Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 It may be cruel, but sounds like great golf practice. I am an Imperial remember and cruelty is fun for us.-Grand Moff Conway
Mad78 Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 Nah it ain't cruelty. Those bloody toads are killing off wild life. A bird can swallow them and then die because of the toad's poison and the toad hop back out. I HATE THE BLOODY THINGS!!! http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Palpycard.gifhttp://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Spamkinguserbarcopy.jpgCLICK HERE IT IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!Click here is you like Trance
Darth_Rob Posted September 24, 2005 Posted September 24, 2005 I didn't know there really was a toad problem. As I said before, the Simpsons have misinformed me to the outside world. But that's alright, I still love them. By the way Krytos, do you ever play "knifey-spoony"? Your feeble skills are no match for the power of the Dark Side! But that's alright, I still love them. By the way Krytos, do you ever play "knifey-spoony"? No. But once my brother was out with some mates camping in middle of no-where when some drunks came up and tried the whole: "This aint a knife, this is a knife" thing with some Victoria knife - which has a blade that's abotu 1", 1.5" long.So my brother's mate decided to try his hand with the joke and pulled out his knife . . . an 8.5" straight blade.Got rid of the drunks quick http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://img152.imageshack.us/img152/1333/3dartistbanneranimationws1.gifhttp://img154.imageshack.us/img154/4026/rebellionbannerdi2.gif
