Guest JediIgor Posted August 20, 2005 Posted August 20, 2005 Well, it's official, our dear old Igor is going to college tomorrow. That's right, tomorrow, the Saturday . Now I was there for orientation earlier in the summer but now I'm finally going to college... and then I need to take two tests, one for CS and one for Japanese..argh! But it'll be worth it and I'll be in classes full of sophmores (CS) . Anyways, just thought you all should know, maybe this will end up in a thread with people's "first day" experiences. By the way, I'm going to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (comp. sci /engineering major). Also, can anyone recommend a really cheap textbook website with high quality books? I'm thinking Amazon used books, but cheaper without losing the quality?
Grand_Admiral_Thrawn Posted August 20, 2005 Posted August 20, 2005 The University books store might have some good deals when you get there. I know that I was able to get used books that other students had sold back to the books store my first year. Amazon usually has good deals, just make sure the text you buy is the same edition as your prof. is using. There's nothing worse than getting to class only to find you're missing a chapter from your edition. Best of luck JI, the first year is always interesting. History is on the move, Captain. Those who cannot keep up with it will be left behind, to watch from a distance. And those who stand in our way will not watch at all.

Darth_Rob Posted August 20, 2005 Posted August 20, 2005 Good luck man. I spent 5 years in college, and it was all good times! By the way, you can try half.com for the text books you need. Krytos Posted August 20, 2005 Posted August 20, 2005 Good luck JI, I'm in my second year of Uni and most of the time it's a breeze - until I remember about the project due in the next day and stay up all night doing it As for text books . . . I only used them first semester, since then lecture notes all the way. Cheap and they tell you pretty much all you need (unless you've got a really lazy lecturer). But if you want textbooks, second hand is the only way to go when a book costs around $100 per subject . . . bloody rediculous. So I guess Amazon might work (never used it myself), other wise there should be some second hand bookshop around that sells the text books. Around my Uni there's a few as well as one run by the uni itself. http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://img152.imageshack.us/img152/1333/3dartistbanneranimationws1.gifhttp://img154.imageshack.us/img154/4026/rebellionbannerdi2.gif
bobandrubert Posted August 20, 2005 Posted August 20, 2005 OMG OMG OMG I live in CHampign Urbana.....
DarthTofu Posted August 20, 2005 Posted August 20, 2005 College, ooh, this is fun. Assuming that your a religious family and you do prayers or something, begin grace with something like "Thank you, lord, for children that grow up too fast, who, it seems like only yesterday were just a newborn infant, looking at the world through the first time with bright and curious eyes..." you can move your parents to tears with that stuff! It's great- I'm doing it as my sister leaves for the Pacific coast and Stanford. 12/14/07Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away
Jahled Posted August 20, 2005 Posted August 20, 2005 Best of luck Igor! Get the most out of college; life's a bit crap without a proper education. http://www.jahled.co.uk/smallmonkeywars.gif
Paul Posted August 20, 2005 Posted August 20, 2005 Good Luck Igor. I went to Cornell University as well as a local college. It was back in the 80's and I had a blast. Do your best and it will turn out great.-Grand Moff Paul Conway
the_mask Posted August 21, 2005 Posted August 21, 2005 Woo, best of luck, dude Expect to get a mild flue in the first few days, though Btw, they have classes about CounterStrike there ? http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
NIIIC Posted August 21, 2005 Posted August 21, 2005 So how was your first day? Best of luck for the many others.
Aenivae_Ikeda Posted August 21, 2005 Posted August 21, 2005 Jedigor, since I'm so small you can smuggle me into your suitcase and use me to ace all of your tests, I can like be inside the suitcase looking at your notes with a penlight and whispering the answers to you, IT'S FOOLPROOF! "I saw the greatest minds of my generation destroyed by madness, starving, hysterical, naked, dragging themselves through the negro streets at dawn looking for an angry fix." -Allen Ginnsberg, "Howl"
DarthTofu Posted August 22, 2005 Posted August 22, 2005 Unless someone says "Hey, where did you get a talking suitcase that whispers answers to you?" Then again, I suppose you could just say that their scyzoophrenic and are hearing voices from suitcases. 12/14/07Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away
Darth_Rob Posted August 22, 2005 Posted August 22, 2005 I think I saw one of them there talking suitcases in "stuff you never knew existed" magazine or Brookstone (the store what sells needless, amazing, expensive crap).
