In order to pay you Tofu, I'm going to need a detailed invoice and a tax ID number. And my bank only allows their checks to be cashed at one of their branch offices and not at "other" banks (to reduce service charges  ). It's part of the price for banking with The First Planetary Bank of Alderaan.

I'm sure Evaders (or somebody on the "staff" would know), but my guess is it's something like this:

Posts Rank

0-9 Cadet

10+ Corporal

25+ Sergeant

50+ Lieutenant

125+ Captain

185+ Major

285+ Commander

400+ Lieutenant Colonel

500+ Colonel

700+ Commodore

900+ Fleet Admiral

1000+ Grand Admiral or whatever?

I don't remember exactly when I was promoted through the lower ranks, but it should be fairly close. As for the upper ranks, I'm giving it a good guess based on those currently ranked above me and still posting. :?

Finally, after years of hard work I am the Supreme Sith Warlord! Muwhahahaha!! What?? What do you mean "there's only two of us"?

To late to stop him now. He is a Grand Admiral. Any way well done for your promotion and don't worry. Only 3533 posts left to catch me up :P

If I got a nickel for every person who asked me to pay to make fun of them i could buy myself a candy bar.

I've curbed my posting somewhat. I really only say something when I've got something to say... well, something constructive. When I look back on my posts from yore I find that many of them were made simply to say something. Not the sort of reputation I want. Usually if I don't have more than three lines to say I'll hold back. I'm sure I'll hit 2k some time in the first two months of the New Year.

Drat. I'm gonna have to increase my post count soon. I'd like to hit 500 in a month or so. I notice that Jahled, Mask, Mad, and the others all get respect because they know a lot about the game and its workings, but also because they have a high post count. I feel like I have a lot of knowledge about the game and I look forward to the day when someone says "If someone like Mask or Toguro can help, that'd be great" in their post.

Our respect for Mask, Mad, Jahled, Trej and others is not due to a high post count, but because they frequently demonstrate that they are mature members of the community who are knowledgable and friendly.

Your respect is based on their knowledge, and so are most of the members of this community, but newer people tend to follow advice of high post count people. I think there was a situation on the Rebellion editing forums a while back, I think it was Defender 16, who gave some advice to a newbie and the newbie waited until Mask answered before trying it. D16, whoever it was, follwed up by saying something along the lines of "If you're not a moderator, no one pays attention to you." I find that to be true on the forums, at least usually. After all, if you're new, you tend to look for the oldest people with the highest post count, since you assume that they know what they're doing. We're fortunate that our older guys here really DO know what they're doing, but us medium-newbs often get ignored by the newbs where help is concerned.

Speaking as one of the people who was most recently a newbie, though has now spammed, I mean posted, his way to 1,000 posts  I actually based advice primarily upon avatar. That's right, avatar. There was someone, I have no clue who anymore, but they had a large image of Palpy for an avatar. They never went beyond a rank or corporal, but due to the avatar I assumed they were a veteran. That could just be me being stupid as usual, but that's my two cents on the matter.

Thx you very much GAT. :D

I may know a bit about the game but I have to admit that alot of people (including you) surely know quite alot more about the games deep-mechanics.

When i first arrived here I knew absolutely NOTHING about 3d modelling. Its only thanks to Mask, Vector, Krytos and several other members that I can now make models for the download section.

Anyway just to say that its not the Post count who makes the member its the member who makes the post count. You don't obviously need a high post count, just continue being present and as helpful to the community as you are at the moment

Aye... Third is prolly Igor, and from there J, Mask, LLF, Scath, SOCL (Not sure about the order though).

I went back in time and through old, dusty posts to check: Scathane the shiny droid person who's name I can't spell apparently has the third highest post count. or at least his is higher than Igor's.

When it comes to deciding how credible someone's post are I tend to base it on three factors.

First, in agreement with Tofu, the avatar. Not whether or not there is one, but what it is of and how professional it looks. To be honest this is unfair as some people simply use the default forum avatars, or some might steal their avatars from other, more professional sources (like me). It's also unfair as some members don't (or didn't) use avatars, yet their contributions to the community were great. An example of the latter is dinochick. For the longest time she had no avatar, yet I had (indeed, still have of course) great respect for what she had/has to say.

Second, post "style" and clarity (spelling and grammar included). I certainly don't claim to have perfect spelling, nor grammar, but I do like to think that my abilities in those fields are above average. As such, professionalism in respect to these two features plays a big role in where I place cerdibility. In most cases this is an accurate filter, but it is unfair to people who's native language is not English. Also included in "style" would be the use of paragraphs. Some people simply cram their whole post into one large, difficult to read paragraph. I usually skip reading those posts . Also, one of my biggest irks is commas and their over use or under use. I think this is almost turning into a rant.

The final thing I look for is vocabulary. You can usually tell by the manner in which some one speaks how knowledgeable they are. This is admittadly not always true, as some fools use large words to hide their foolishness, just as some intelligent people prefer to keep things simple.

Now these three criteria aren't really fair as not every member of the forum has all of them. However, I really only apply them to new people, not those who have been her a while. Currently there aren't any consistent posters for whom I do not apply a certain level of credibility (though I will admit it does vary ).

History is on the move, Captain. Those who cannot keep up with it will be left behind, to watch from a distance. And those who stand in our way will not watch at all.

Quickley Mad, remove the "e" from the end of protocol before Scathane can strike again!
EDIT: Thx GAT. That was a close one.
Beat me there. :x However, GAT will never be able to resist the dark side of B.E.A.K.: Boring Explanations!

Meanwhile in wouldn't you like to know...

*Laughs head off then takes cover due to own frequent typos, readying the double-bladed sword fish for combat* 8O
Are you talking about a double-bladed sword, a double-bladed fish or a double-bladed swordfish, DT?

*Runs for cover in the modelling section, where Krytos feels safe*
Were you already in the modelling section when you started running for cover, or did you run into the modelling section?

*Starts gernading modelling section, where Krytos feels safe*
I take it you mean grenading, b&r?

And to think I'm Dutch! 8O Anyway, on to the dark side of B.E.A.K.

Well, lets try to get this back on track. Does anyone have a list of what ranks are available and at what post count? I figure its somewhere, but I dont really feel like flipping through all 58 pages of this topic.
I have... Btw, has anyone seen SOCL?

If you did you shall discover that the idea of this thread is to get promoted and therefore to post. That is why there is quite a good amount of nonsense in this thread.
Unless you count this particular post of yours, Mad, it's not really all that bad...

Surprisingly, the majority of the pages in this thread are related to the topic. Many of them are discussing how a new ranking system would be organised, or debating Dr. Saxton's rank system etc. All-in-all, I think this thread is generally productive (well, it was ).
My point exactly... and, effectively, SWRs ranking system is exactly like this:

http://www.thinknow.nl/swr-rs.gif

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, SOCL and myself presented a new ranking system.

Aye... Third is prolly Igor, and from there J, Mask, LLF, Scath, SOCL (Not sure about the order though).
Surely you mean Third is Scathane? And to complete the list from there to ten: Jahled, the_mask, ElvisMiggell, JediIgor, SOCL, Stratus and, finally, ADarkJedi44. Why do you think I wrote this? Edited by Scathane

Ah, the good old days of mindless spam with Darky... the infamous bounty hunter thread... I gained more than half of my posts in that period. Ha!

Anyway, post count shouldn't mean a thing. Post quality should. Look at GAT's post above. That's a well written post. VERY UNREADABLE BECAUSE OF THE BLUE COLOR, but well written.

I have to agree with what he is saying, too, and I'd like to add that overuse of the quote function annoys me. No point quoting a whole post, and adding a comment that is actually shorter than the quoted text.

Anyhow, I guess you'll never see me hit the 2k mark, but I hope to maintain a relatively high average quality of posting, so that I can unlurk from time to time and everyone goes "Oh wow! Look! It's Fishface, the Mysterious! I am honored to see one of his posts!"

Regarding the self-claimed fact that half your posts were mindless spam, I can see why you say should...

Gee, and I wonder why some people just keep on doing it...
