Is there anyone else excited for the new Fantastic Four Movie opening soon? I can't wait, it looks good (like Spider-Man and X-Men good), even though Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman are a tad younger than expected...but hey, this is the movie.

Well, I've never been a fan of the Fantastic 4 - not sure why, but it never got my fancy. So I can't really say I'm looking forward to it.

Though, with the way that comic movies have been gonig lately, I might change my mind

Sue seems a little young for Reed and I don't know about Doom's lightning powers, but I'm looking forward to it because I thoroughly enjoyed the Lee/Kirby run on the FF back in the day

Actually, Mr. Fantastic isn't that much older than Sue (in terms of the actors) Alba is what, mid 20s? Ioan Gruffudd is only in his late twenties to early thirties. I think the accident in space has something to do with the grey in his hair.

History is on the move, Captain. Those who cannot keep up with it will be left behind, to watch from a distance. And those who stand in our way will not watch at all.

ah okay. If they explain it that way then I'll have no complaints about the age. Doom's organic skin in place of his armor and the lighting powers bug me, but I think the lighting is sort of a throwback to Mark Waid's "Mage Doom" in his run on the FF a few years ago, and his being in the spaceship with Reed and Co. is in keeping with the Ultimate FF continuity, I think. I'd have put bigger "eyebrows" on the Thing if I were developing the costume--his face still looks too human for the Thing. what really makes Ben so great as a character is that he's so ugly except for his deep blue eyes which immediately reveal all the emotional pain he's had to endure since the transformation. Keep in mind that all of these are nit-picks and I'm sure the movie will be great. I'm especially interested in how they'll do Reed's powers since it looks like he's getting Shapeshifting powers instead of just elastic powers. Shapeshifting is easily the coolest power ever!

I dunno, Doom is one of those villains I read about who can almost do anything.

Didnt he build himself a cosmic cube or something which in theory would allow him to destroy Galactus?

Anyway, Dr. Doom is a pretty neat villain from what I remember reading and the lightning power doesnt bug me, what will bug me is not seeing Jessica Alba in a nice form fitting outfit of some kind. :D

I dunno. Sue Storm has always been the mother of two kids, one of whom is probably the most powerful character in the Marvel Universe. Its hard for me to see her as sexy. That, and I dont like Jessica Alba =/

Well, I just saw it last night. I thought it definetly was a great Marvel movie. The Fantastic 4 were awesome, and the actors who played them were great! The storyline was good and moved along at a perfect speed. My only qualm was with Doctor Doom. I feel that they didn't give him enough credit, making him a weaker character. Like, I could look at him and say, "I cant see this as Doctor Doom", which is the complete oppisite for the superheroes, who were all played great. But it definetly was on the same level as Spider-Man and X-Men.

I've never been too much into comics, and the fantastic four did not seem that interesting when compared to Superman, or the X-Men. From the trailers it seemed a really bad movie. Way too much (and obvious) CGI, stupid oneliners, and rather average actors. (Alba is hot, but blonde doesn't suit her).

Yet another summer movie that I won't waste my money to go see.

I saw it, and I was impressed. I put it above the X-man movies and on par with the two Spider-Man movies, but not quite up there with Hellboy or Batman Begins (my two favorite comic movies).

The scenes with Johnny playing tricks on Ben were right out of the Lee and Kirby run on the FF and were portrayed wonderfully. I think that the torch stole the show in terms of playing those admittedly corny lines well, with Ben a close second.

The angst between Sue and Reed bothered me a little. Why was Reed against sharing an apartment with Sue? They sort of dodged that question and it would give us some insight into Reed's character if we knew. Sue comes off as a powerful woman, which is more in line with Mark Waid's Sue than Lee's, but we don't want a "Leave it to Beaver" style Invisible Girl in today's feminist world, so thats not a problem.

Doom....well, I hope they didn't ruin him just because he sort of looked like Darth Vader. His voice was way too soft and high pitched for Dr. Doom, and as Darth Rob mentioned, he was rather weak. He was quite similar to Mark Waid's Doom, as I had guessed from the trailers, but the whole final fight scene just looked smaller in scale compared to Spidey's fight against the Green Goblin or Dr. Octopus.

I highly recommend this movie despite the flaw with Doom. If you're cheap, just go see a matinee of it--its worth the money. I also recommend reading the comics if you liked any of these Marvel or DC movies. All of these movies are based on a specific story, which is usually better than the movie. If reading isnt your thing, however, you could do worse than see this one. (and keep your eyes peeled for Serenity--it looks great!)
