UntimelyDemise Posted January 28, 2003 Posted January 28, 2003 Gents...is anyone else getting an annoying little popup which reads: Sorry, but you have been recruited within the last 24 hours. Smirnov now has an army of size 41 Smirnov summons you from your cohort. As you listen, he says he needs talented warriors like you, and says he will grant you a parcel of land and a small fighting force, and promote you to the rank of officer. As an officer, Smirnov's forces will help defend you when you are attacked.Do you accept? And then a bit of shit about Kings of Chaos? I really don't like these little attacks...especially while I am perusing my favorite site... the_mask Posted January 28, 2003 Posted January 28, 2003 Yeah, I always have a little window popping up everytime I close it, but it's too small to read anything except the Files menu. Although I have a pretty good idea who Smirnov is http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
Jahled Posted January 28, 2003 Posted January 28, 2003 ..ok...i'm getting mad as well...perhaps someone's avatar is comming from a non-public site...the guys at Pixel Masher dropped by to ask me, in the kindest possible way, to stop leaching their space hopper gif, they also gave me an highly dettailed tutorial on how to set up an msn passport newsgroup to host the space hopper image from there. Apparently, the hosting site has to be public, or something like that, otherwise everyone will get annoying little pop-ups. As you may have gathered, I haven't quite the hang of the url-link! I'm also getting quite good at speaking absolute gibberish.... http://www.jahled.co.uk/smallmonkeywars.gif
UntimelyDemise Posted January 28, 2003 Author Posted January 28, 2003 I know Smirnov...good vodka, bad popup! Seriously, this crap needs to be addressed...I feel like I'm on AOHell... Jahled...gonna miss that speeder bouncing about... You need to find something else like that! Jahled Posted January 28, 2003 Posted January 28, 2003 Dude, tears swelled up in my eyes when I was rumbled by the guys at PixelMasher (now one our members)...I had no idea 'leaching' the image from their web-site was in anyway doing something wrong, but apparently the hyperlink creates problems for them every time some here views one of my posts...or something along those lines. That's still stuff I remain blissfully clueless about! I'm not going to knock them though, behind the scenes they're actually helping me with a little project....(and undoubtably realizing what a completely stupid and computer-witless fool I am)...which you don't expect or come across to much in these souless and money-motivated times. So, praise where it's due- if you haven't already been to their little site; here's the link: http://www.pixelmasher.com The web is a better place for guys like this. http://www.jahled.co.uk/smallmonkeywars.gif
the_mask Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 Their problems should've been the following: everytime someone whatched a post by you, or your profile, the pic was loaded from their website, causing traffic for them. The more that builds up, the more traffic they get. Since some webspace providers make you pay for traffic, 'leaching' is not something you'd like to have on your site, since you just get problems and have no benefit. I made an account at graffiti.net, cause I read that they support remote-linking, so I could enter actually working pics in my posts. When I tried to use my avatar from there, it was getting slower and slower each day. But like the guys at pixelmasher said, with a (fast) public account, that supports remote-linking you could use our favourite hopper pic again. http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
Jahled Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 ...he he he...I know what to do...he he he http://www.jahled.co.uk/smallmonkeywars.gif
the_mask Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 And don't forget to put all of them there http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
UntimelyDemise Posted January 29, 2003 Author Posted January 29, 2003 At least the popups have ceased... Ahhhhhh!!! Happy days are here again!
