AdmiralToguroAni Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 Hi! For the last six months I've been showing up and asking for a lot of help with my TC. Now that its almost done, I thought I'd share what exactly that it is I'm doing. I recognize that a lot of the stuff here won't be to everyone's taste, but I'm sure all of you modders can recognize and appreciate the hard work that goes into changing this great game. Background: For the last few years (since 9th grade!), I've been running a text-based RPG that included everything from Star Wars to anime to comics. I had a huge player base and I have decided to create this mod so that they can have something semi permanent to remind them of all the fun they had. Here's what I've done: 1)All character cards changed to reflect the players and NPCs who appeared in my game 2) Threepio replaced with a Servbot (Megaman Legends), R2 replaced with Cupil (Skies of Arcadia), IMP 22 replaced with Stolteheim Reinback IV (Suikoden), and SD-7 replaced with a Prinny (Disgaea: Hour of Darkness) 3) Completely changed all the voices for all characters. I even got the local news guy from my city to do the voice of Han Solo's replacement. 4) ALL event and mission pictures have been replaced by original artwork drawn by my sister. Also, Coruscant has been replaced with Apokolips (from Jack Kirby's 4th world) and it has the firepits! 5) Galaxy background, shuttle, and command center redesigned and created in PSP by my girlfriend 6) Replaced/rebalanced all troops, fighters, and ships (models included). I replaced the redundant strike cruiser with a grappler ship (I still need the model), and gave it nothing but Ion cannons. 7) All the music has been changed The ending cinemas have been replaced with "slide shows" that resemble the movie when you access the credits in the shuttle, but with new graphics that are more relevant to the style of the game. Now I'm sure its nowhere near what most of these other TCs are, but with only 3 people (me, my girlfriend and my sister) working on it, its going along fairly well. Please provide any thought/comment about other things I could change to add a new "feel" to the game Count Dooku is the strongest Star Wars character as depicted in the movies. All hail Christopher Lee.
Darth-Griffin Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 Looking forward to it. You need a tester or two then please shout as i would be more than willing to try this http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/2350/darth1b3bu.jpgVisit the forums > The Galactic Core Forums
AdmiralToguroAni Posted June 10, 2005 Author Posted June 10, 2005 I'm gonna need about a gig o' webspace to host the darn thing. Fortunately I have a friend who'll give me all the space I need. Anyway, I ran into a problem when I was testing it. I replaced the "Fleet has arrived" pic with the "Planet is under blockade" pic because I dont use TIEs in my game (Gundams>TIES), but that pic shows up as corrupted! It has a reddish hue to it and looks grainy. Its saved as a 256 color bitmap and since it was from another part of the Strategy.dll file, I'm sure it uses the same palette. whats wrong? Count Dooku is the strongest Star Wars character as depicted in the movies. All hail Christopher Lee.
SWR Staff - Executive Evaders99 Posted June 10, 2005 SWR Staff - Executive Posted June 10, 2005 A gig? WOW, that's one huge TC. We can offer hosting here, just get to me when tis all done and we'll upload it Image corruption, always a problem. Usually I copy the image into an image that already has the correct palette, PSP will convert things right. the_mask Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 * gulps * One ... gig ? Restecp, mon Please upload it in handy chunks, no larger than 500 megs, once you're done. Reason is, my usb stick is only 512 and I'll only be able to download it at the uni http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
Guest JediIgor Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 Make sure to do the biggest compression possible . And we'll definitely host a Rebellion TC here!

You're probably bumping into the frustrating game colour palettes! From my experiance replacing stuff for Reloaded it became apparent the game engine uses multiple palettes; one for the dll folder, one for the tactical folder, etc, which is incredibly annoying. http://www.jahled.co.uk/smallmonkeywars.gif
AdmiralToguroAni Posted June 12, 2005 Author Posted June 12, 2005 ugh. I thought there was just a tactical and strategy palette. Any idea on how to get it to work? Count Dooku is the strongest Star Wars character as depicted in the movies. All hail Christopher Lee.
the_mask Posted June 12, 2005 Posted June 12, 2005 Hehe, that's what Jahled meant. I only know of these two palettes. There are others, taken from the ~80something missing entries of the tactical palette, but they're only used for the planets http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
AdmiralToguroAni Posted June 13, 2005 Author Posted June 13, 2005 thats so weird. You'd think that if I took the planet blockaded pic from the strategy.dll file and put it over the fleet pic, it would work perfectly. Could it be because I saved the bitmap and replaced it rather than save it as a .BIN file and replaced it? Count Dooku is the strongest Star Wars character as depicted in the movies. All hail Christopher Lee.
the_mask Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 Whoa whoa whoa The fleet pic is no .bin file. The bitmaps that rest in the tactical.dll and strategy.dll are just that, plain old bmps (with the character pic palette). Textures on the other hand (planets and fighters as well) have their own palette. But apart from them, everything else should have the same palette as the character pics. http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
Darth-Griffin Posted June 14, 2005 Posted June 14, 2005 Are there any replacements about for any of the ingame bmp's etc (ie imperial starship bridge)? I remember seeing some around some time ago but a search hasnt found them. http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/2350/darth1b3bu.jpgVisit the forums > The Galactic Core Forums
AdmiralToguroAni Posted August 4, 2005 Author Posted August 4, 2005 We're well on our way to finishing the TC, but as I was working on it, I began to think--"Would the SWR gang even want a TC of Rebellion that isnt Star Wars?" You've seen the pics in my other topic, so you know that I'm going for a cartoony, anime style for the game, with no star wars guys to think of (although I used the black-armor stormtroopers for my "Thought Police Regiment"). Is there any desire to play a game like that on this forum? Count Dooku is the strongest Star Wars character as depicted in the movies. All hail Christopher Lee.
