Skynxnex Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 Planet: Bilbringi Rebel Occupied It was another day, another day in the civil war that was engulfing the galaxy. Admiral Ackbar looked out on the bridge of his mon calamari cruiser inspecting the various ships that were assembled there. Bilbringi had become a key planet that helped to provide the Rebellion with resources, and most importantly ships which were needed to combat the Empire. Ackbar was expecting a typical routine day. He was wrong. Alarm klaxons sounded. "Admiral!," shouted one of his Aides. "We have Imperial ships coming out of Hyperspace." "What are the types and the number?" "Sir, so far an Imperial fleet of 6 Imperial-class and a larger number of Victory's...alright the last Victory has appeared. Count is at 14 Victory IIs." Ackbar had a grimace on his face. This fleet would not be easy to destroy. His fleet consisted of the smaller calamari cruisers, only 6 plus numerous smaller support ships such as Carracks. "Admiral....sithspawn! Interdictor cruisers have just emerged. Gravity wells are now in operation," said his aide. Immediately a huge white flash went off which stunned the officers on Ackbar's flagship. "Status?" queried Ackbar. "Um..sir. It appears the Interdictors are here for a reason. Death Star is now on approach." --------------------------------------------------------------------- I hope that little bit was entertaining to any of you who read through it. Apart from the point of view from Ackbar's perspective this was a battle I fought as the Empire. I hyperspaced in a large fleet that had a Death Star in it. I had finally found a major shipyard production planet that the Alliance was using. This was also one of my first times using the Death Star. After I destroyed the fleet and captured Ackbar I ordered my Death Star to destroy Bilbringi since it had twin shields and I couldnt invade it. Well, after Bilbringi became an asteroid field a huge wave of uprisings went on throughout the Core. I learned that sometimes using the Death Star's planet destruction capabilities is not wise. Paul Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 Skyxnex, I have found that it works better in such cases to use the Death Stars awesome bombardment capabilities to get rid of all of the military objects on the planet without using the superlaser. It may not be as much fun, but there is no problem with popular support. If you feel the need to flex your muscles (we all do sometimes) make sure your planets are garrisoned with at least six stormtrooper units. Since then I've come to consider them the greatest way to misplace resources in the universe. Yeah, I wrote this as one of my gaming stories for the first time I decided to try out the "commence primary ignition" capability of the Death Star. The vast number of uprisings alone made me reconsider my action. And after the second time, I remove them from every game I play just so no one is tempted with the thought of them. The first time, I built it for fun, and parked it in orbit of coruscant. I used it to blast Bulwarks out of the sky when they showed up. It was quite fun. Right up until it got blasted into scrap by commandoes. Not cool. All those resources used up, blasted away by something as cheap as that. The second time, I built one to use it to crack the Rebel hold on the core worlds. I had lost most of the core due to a long string of poorly fought battles (Grammel, Your fired!), and uprising missions (Solo, Your dead meat!) So I ended up building a death star to just destroy a few key core worlds out of frustration after I re-secured the rim anf the Corellian sector. Little did I know, the galaxy had little love for anyone who blows up Mon Calamari and Bothuwai in the same week. I ended up losing that game. I advice anyone who wants to build a deathstar tio head my words. Your resources are better spent on Vic Star II and TIE Defenders. The DS will cause you nothing but problems. I once knew a great man. Nothing got to him, and he always smiled. May he forever rest in peace, knowing fully well that his freinds shall remember him.
DarthTofu Posted September 4, 2005 Posted September 4, 2005 I dunno... You can save time by blowing up uninhabited planets that you don't care about out of the sky. Personally I hate having to colonize the whole stinking rim- it takes too long. Not only is it useful for taking out capital starships, but it also keeps up moral in neighboring systems (rule through fear). The Death Star is a must. If the Rebels manage to destroy it, just build another one! Your feeble skills are no match for the power of the Dark Side! Unless you're cheating, keep the numbers low (no more than 2).3. If it's your only ship in orbit, don't have fighters, stock it full of whichever troop regiment has the highest detection rating, and give it a general w/ a high leadership rating. (Can also give it an admiral, but this is unneccesary as the superlaser does not miss, at least it hasn't for me.)4. Death Star 1 (default name, I don't often change mine) goes to Coruscant w/ 2 Death Star Shields.5. (More of a personal preference, not a RULE per say...) Don't use the superlaser outside of battle in the inner rim.6. Don't use superlaser outside of battle WITHOUT saving first. Death Star 1 was destroyed over Yavin. I always rename it Death Star II5. Rarely use superlaser outside of battle except for annoying planet or Rebel Base6. DarthOminous Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 Well in my expierience of Death Stars once I'm in decent shape and I got a yard that build one, like real fast I always go for it, cause this time the Death Star w/ crush the Rebellion HQ w/ one swift stroke! Thats what I like to do, take out that thing w/ the death star, but I got tired of constantly losing it to stinkin' fighters, so now when I'm investigating a Sector I'll send a decent fleet w/ lots of fighters and an Interdictor and take care of the pesky pests first, then here she comes!!! Surely when those rebels on the HQ see her come into Orbit, They begin shaking in their boots, "Oh no, there will be no hero today my friends, no surprise fleet, no escaping, just sweating the seconds before the blast.While all this is goin on, (I take great pleasure at this kinda victory) you gotta laugh like only Sidious could.Thats what it's about.

uber Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 I've never had any trouble with my death star. Of course, the first time I played rebellion (like most people probably did) I went a bit nuts and started blowing stuff up. Not a good idea. Now I build a death star to stand watch over Coruscant and when I've got the rebels cornered to just one planet left on the map they get a special surprise. On a side note, I actually had a game where Luke decided to take a mission to Coruscant from the last rebel planet in the outer rim right before I blew it to smithereens.
