Ideas on whatto name my ships

Hi just discovered this site after playing rebellion för seven(? didnt it came out 98? ) years now=) my biggest problem is always that i cant get any good names on my ships,and i have been to lazy to write down all the Names the comp uses, now im starting a new game and i hope that you guys here maby have some ideas on what to call my rebel ships?

Well, I can give you a few ideas. For the corellian corvettes, I always name them "Tantive __". Fill in the blank with the number of the ship. I do this simply because the Organa corellian corvette is the Tantive IV. Also, I name all of my dreadnauts with the periodic table of the elements. Each ship is a different element. As for the large starships (Calamari starcruisers, Bulwarks, etc) I use the last names of famous people.

Maybe give them fake numbers after there name so it looks like your not renaming them and if someone reads the numbers they'll think you have more ships than you actually have .

I usually have two SSD's in my main fleet and I name them the Nobleece and the Novaleece. For Star Destroyers I usually use hero names. Achilles, Alexander, Titan, Trojan Horse, Decimator, Phoenix Cloud, Angel's Reflection, Redemption, Vengeance, Heirarchy of Tear, stuff like that.

I am ashamed to admit it but I check the horse races and name corvettes and gunships and other more minor ship types after race horses.

im doing a compleate list of shipnames in execel today, im sharing it here if wanted later

Most word processors can do a Paste as Unformatted Text

It will remove pretty much everything and leave the text you want

I usually follow the convention of the ship abbreviation and then the name. That way I know what the heck ship it is.

 

Example, if I just built an Imperial-II star destroyer I name it 'ISD2 Shipnamehere' that way I can tell what the class is.

i go really fancy with ship names. if it's a corr gunship and it's in fleet 3 it's called gunship 1-3 if it's the second of same typs it's gunship 2-3. can anyone see a pattern here

BCRS: Vengeance Derra IV

CRV: Spike III

FRG: Redemption

ESC: Hornet

DREAD: Katana

QFC: Flurry

CRS: Liberty

CC44: Judiciary

CRCK: Death's Hand

ATR: Omega 3

BBCRS: Yavin's Hope

INT: Constraint

 

Just try and translate these into their ship classes. (If you play XWA it should be easy.)

I don't do the ISD, Shipname... I usually manage to remember what kind of ship each one I name is. Although for weaker ships I usually give them lesser hero names, and so on. Might be why...

Not me. I find after editing in RebEd I have way too many ships and I start running out of creative names to call them all.

yeah i can dop that, ill get home 11 GMT i can try and mail it to Evaders, its like over 2000 names in the frecking list, all sorted up in what kinds of ships they are for, and also an box so you can mark if you have used the name yet=)

Wow this is an old thread... Krytos wasn't even at 1000 when it came up, and he's a slow poster....

 

I typically name my ships with Expanded Universe Names, though if I have a particularly Resilient ship that survives a long enough period of the campaign I'll name it The Indomitable or something like that.

 

Other ships I use Latin to name- I actually named a group of Corvettes based off of a Latin Translation of My Country Tis of The

(Te canno paaaaaatria,

Candida Liiiiibera...

Yeah, I'm a nerd. Used to have the whole thing memorized... )

 

In my early days when I just made one huge, invincible fleet, I named them in sentances, such as the This the is the a the really the friggin' the big and the fleet, occassionally followed by the period.
